Building backlinks on sub-pages instead of main page(rood-domain)
-
Hey Mozzers!
I am facing a problem and I need advice.
I have recently opened my new website, which purpose is to offer quality articles, optimized for SEO. The problem is that I cannot find the right keyword to use for the main(root) domain (http://xxxxxx.org) as it is consisting of many niches.
Is it a good idea to build backlinks on pages (http://xxxxxx.org/the-keyword-for-ranking) instead of building them on my root-domain?
So basically, my root-domain will have less backlinks than my pages inside?
Please give me some advice and way to act with.
Thank you

Hi there
From the sounds of things in your question, yes, you will likely be better off targeting your internal pages to rank for relevant search terms rather than your homepage as a 'catch-all'.
So e.g. http://xxxxxx.org/the-keyword-for-ranking try to acquire (natural, not paid) inbound links to these pages from relevant authoritive websites with relevant anchor text.
Your homepage will acquire links anyway (usual scenario), this page will rank for your brand and perhaps main overall keyword, difficult to tell though without knowing anything about the website.
There was an interesting White Board Friday recently entitled "Mapping Keywords to Content for Maximum Impact" which is worth a view. It introduces the concept of the 'Frankenpage' which is best avoided (e.g. a homepage or internal page that tries to cater for too many different topics and keywords), better off targeting 1 page for one or two phrases based around 1 main topic.
Hope that helps,
Regards
Simon

Backlink builder (Professional)
If I wanted to hire a professional person to build high quality backlinks for me, where would I look? I'm asking here because I'd rather go on the recommendation of other businesses owners, than a google search. Does anyone have a person that they can recommend? It's for an insurance agency in Texas. Many thanks

Backlinks and SPAM
I was doing some back link review of competitors and I have noticed that many of our competition have 300+ do follow back links from Justia.com and an additional 300+ do follow links from law.cornell.edu (they share the same database). The links on Justia are from different pages and they are all going to the root of our competitors site. So the questions are as follows; 1: For the purpose of SEO is this considered SPAM 2: If not SPAM, then does it have a positive effect on the competitions website and should I attempt to emulate for my client. Thanks in advance. -Jeff

Do citations count as backlinks?
Hello, So I may have a simple question- do citations such as yp and manta for an example count as backlinks? So if they do, would this be a natural link so good for seo? or a citation where it may be a backlink, but not very helpful for seo backlink profile? Thank you to all

Backlinks embedded in posts or backlinks in sidebar?
What's better? A backlink to my site, embedded into a blog post/article? Or a hardlink in the sidebar? The problem with links embedded inside articles, is that when the blog linking to me, gets updated, the articles disappear from first page and I lose the link from home page. How do you deal with this? I also read this: "The best link you can get is from a site ranking #1 for the keyword you want to rank for. It would be great to have the #1 site for a desired keyword linking me even if they are a PR 0 site." Is this right? Thx in advance.

Does this count as a backlink to my category page?
I am ranking high with a certain category page and I am reading that I need backlinks to that page. It is going to be a challenge to get a backlink to that specific category page but how about this? Category page URL: www.mysite.com/category/name Backlink to this URL: www.mysite.com/category/name/specific-blog-post (EDIT: Apparently these types of links don't exist! I went into the category page and clicked on a blog post and it just gave me the www.mysite.com/blah-blah-blah) Will that count as a backlink to the category page? Right now I am only getting backlinks to these blog posts: www.mysite.com/this-is-a-blog-post Any help appreciated! EDIT: Well I guess now my question is worthless. But if you have any input, it would be appreciated.
