New bookingsengine url, what would you do?
-
A client of mine is introducing a new and improved bookingsengine. They're launching it on a different url than the existing one. The existing one needs to stay online a little bit longer for affiliate purposes.
The old engine url has a sitelink in the SERPS and ranks well on a few terms.
I'm wondering what you would do in this case? They want the new url to rank as quickly as possible also as sitelink of course.
Any help greatly appreciated. I have some thoughts of my own of course...
But to keep the discussion as wide as possible... I'll wait a bit to add m thoughts.

Thanks
And would you suggest removing the old sitelink to make room for the new domain? How could we speed up the process of getting the sitelink up for the new domain?
-
This really depends on the difficulty of your keywords. If the market is very competitive, then don't expect to rank in the top three very quickly with a brand new domain (it can be done, but it would take a lot of planning with link bait, and amazing execution of social media). However, if you are in a relatively easy vertical, you could end up ranking twice in the same search (bonus!).
I would suggest:
Using the old domain
301'ing, or reusing any highly linked pages
submitting a new sitemap
Gaining a bunch of links to urge re-crawling
Having a sit down with the client before to explain possible short term ranking drops (Which sucks! They don't want to understand why)
Not checking the rankings every 30 minutes if drops occur.

Combining products - edit existing product page or 301 redirect to new page?
We want to combine existing products - e.g. 'hand lotion' and 'body lotion' will become 'hand & body lotion'. As such, we'll need to combine the two product pages into one. What would be the best route to take in terms of SEO to do this? My initial reaction is to create a new product page and then 301 or 302 redirect the old products to the new product page depending on if the change is permanent or temporary. Would you agree? Or am I missing something?

Proper URL Structure. Feedback on Vendors Recommendation
Urgent! We're doing a site redesign and our vendor recommended new url structure as follows: website.com/folder/word1word2word3. Our current structure is website.com/word1-word2 They said that from SEO perspective, it doesn't make a difference if there are dashes between words or not and Google can read either URL. Is that true? I need experts to weigh on the above, as well as SEO implications if we were to implement their suggestion.

URL / Meta info for Author bio pages
When you create a biography page for authors that point back to their G+ account, do you include any other signals in the URL other than the authors name? For example, would you use www.domain.com/sam-spade or www.domain.com/sam-spade-biography, etc? Similar question for the meta description. Do you add any signals there? Or, is rel=author strong enough. Best,

Long Url but makes no sense
Hi Just joined. Crawl states that I am getting a lot of errors, looks like the spider is getting confused and looping back on itself ? Is there a way to see where the crawl was formulated (ie where from) ? It is generating urls like: http://www.wickman.net.au/wineauction/wine_auction_alert.aspx/auction/auction/auction/auction/auction/auction/Default.aspx from http://www.wickman.net.au/wineauction/wine_auction_alert.aspx

Adding keywords to URL's
I understand the importance of having the keyword in the URL (at least now I do). When I created my site (www.enchantingquotes.com), I was completely ignorant about SEO. So....question is...how do I go about adding keywords to already done pages? Do I create a new section and then redirect - or do I have to basically recreate pages? Thx much 🙂
