How to improve ranking on .com vs 'local' .no
-
Hi
I am ranking 1st for my main keyword (barneklær-childrens clothing) on google.no. I got a bit surprised to see we are close to bottom of page 2 for same keyword on google.com. This keyword is as you probably understandreally country specific because the norwegian letter -æ . So if I take a look at the list at google.com its really the same sites I am outranking on .no.
For this keyword local stats pr month is 22k and global is 29k (from google adwords). Even though our site is norwegian only - all of the global traffic is relevant due to the fact that this is a norwegian only word.
Main reason we are ranking first on google.no i think is that we ve had articles on the strongest and most relevant blogs in Norway. I am guessing we somehow need to improve our international linking profile - right ?
Do i then need US sites ? Is it enough with sites outside Norway? Any suggestions, its not easy to get international links to a norwegian site only dealing with childrens clothing.
Thanks in advance...

I want to improve my rank on .com because i think i think searches there are just as relevant. The only people that search for barneklær are norwegian speaking weather it is on .no or .com. Will it help med to get more links from .no website ?
-
Usually .no will be favoured by local search engines.
Some things you can do:
-
build more links from .no websites.
-
Make sure you are geo targeting the site with norway in webmaster tools, that is if you only want to target that market.
-
Make sure your content is targeting the local language, and not English too.

Use 301'd Domain for a new campaign
Hello everybody, My company is getting ready to start a new mediacampaign on a very specific subject. The mediacampaign is not directly targeted at our core business, the goal is more to inform our customers about a subject and do a little branding for our company. A nice (and expensive) infographic was built that is going to be the core content of the campaign. We want the infographic to get shared a lot and therefore some of my colleagues want the url to be as short as possible. The idea is to host the infographic on a url on our companysite, but use a 301'd, shorter domainname in our communications. We are going to be getting a lot of links to this empty 301'd domain which does nothing else then 301 to our companysite. I know that linkbuilding to a 301'd domain is an old blackhat tactic, that's the main reason I don't feel good about this. But i can't really find any info on this subject.

Generic Anchor Vs Branded Anchor?
Hi, I have always been very careful when building links, making sure that I use lots of variations relevant to my site in the anchor text, so keep the ratio diluted. However, in recent weeks I have stumbled on some SEO's focussing wholly around branded anchor terms for future link building, I feel that a branded focussed link profile looks more natural. I'm interested to know what the rest of Moz community think about this? Thanks

Do sub-domains help overall domain ranking?
If I have a blog at (for example) blog.mywebsite.co.uk (hosted on Wordpress), does this confer rankings to the top level domain (e.g. www.mywebsite.co.uk which we host ourselves)? Contained within the blog are many links to the main website (which is an eCommerce website) for all our key phrases, but it seemed like a good idea to keep the blog and the store separate. Alternatively, would it be better to use something like www.mywebsite.co.uk/news? Thanks! Alex

Where to link to? .com or extension
Hi everyone. Just a quick question as its really confusing me. When link building it appears I have been linking unknowingly it seems to 2 different web address's http://www.chamonixfirst.com and http://www.chamonixfirst.com/en/home/ I'm very new to this but if you look at the link info for these two different address they have different scores. Have i just halved all the link building i have done so far? When you search for us on the net its the .com site that appears but the .com/en/home/ has better trust etc. So i guess the question is, for future linking which address should we be linking to ? .com or .com/en/home/ Many thanks Phil

Has anyone seen positive results from using Submiteaze to submit to directories? I know an SEM agency that uses it for clients' link building campaigns, but I don't know if it is worth buying. Are there better alternatives?
I would like to start a link building initiative at my company for a new website, and would like to know if the value of the links built using Submiteaze would be worth the money.

Trying to rank highly for specific keyword, any advice?
I run a boating site and its been live since early February. Most of my traffic comes from direct traffic or google, keyword "trawler blogs". However, I am trying to rank highly for the generic keyword "trawler" or "trawlers" and I've had very little success. My homepage just got an A from the on-page analysis for keyword trawler. I've also reached out to several other trawler sites to try to get a link from them, or a reciprocal link. Haven't had much traction. However, our site is listed on a bunch (10-12) trawler related blogs (mostly blogspot) in their blogrolls, although these don't show up in backlinks. Any advice would be great. Thank you!

Ranking dropping for certain keyword
Hi There, Just wondering what has happened to my rankings as I cant seem to understand it. In the past week we've dropped from page 1 to page 10 for a certain keyword. The URL is also different that google displays - instead of displaying the individual page it now just links to the main domain. All the other keywords have remained consistent and some have improved. The page is still in the Google Index if I manually search for it. There hasn't been any dramatic change to the page except I've created a few links to it. Have we been penalized by Google and is there anything I can do?
