What's the typical response time to link building email requests?

Hello Forum,
We're about to embark on a link building campaign and were curious about how long, on average, it takes to get a response to an email requesting links to our page. We're trying to come up with a timeline estimate for our campaign.

In my experience, if they haven't replied within a week then they are most likely not going to reply.

I am currently involved in a smaller-scale email campaign, promoing some new content we put up. I have received emails back within 1-2 days, if they were going to come.
However, I am very new at this still. You might chalk that response time up to the quality (or lack thereof) of my emails or the fact that this campaign hasn't lasted very long. If someone emails me back in two weeks, I'll be glad!

I agree with laellester. I rarely get a link sending an email but I do get links if I call people first.

super difficult to answer but I agree it would be good to be able to attach a cost to a link.
Depends on the link builder and approach being taken by them.
Its pays to make contact with people in the niche and build a relationship with them before asking them for a link.

Is there any link building value to design showcase websites?
I am interested to hear people's opinions on this. We are launching a microsite that is for branding purposes only, no real SEO strategy beyond optimizing for branded terms on it. However the design of the site is strong in my opinion. I think it could get picked up by "sites of the day" websites, showcases, galleries, etc. Would there be SEO benefit of in being featured on those sites since they tend to be curated lists of only the best sites and therefore editorial links? Or is there danger of those not being seen as quality links that could get you into trouble?

Sheesh. I get them every day. But this one takes the cake. It's from a woman I met once in my life on a long run with my running club. That was two years ago. Now she wants me to endorse her -- even though I know nothing about her professionally. But wait, there's more. She's not much of a runner. car insurance Our tool basically consists of a link of JavaScript with a link outside of the tool as per the following example: this super widget was provided by <a>mydomain.com</a> We are now concerned that a link building process that we have used for many years is now considered to be gaming Google. How do sites have so many 'total links'?
I've been analyzing some of our competitors: essayedge.com and papercheck.com Both sites have a large number of 'total links'... about 93,000 each. The former has about 1,200 linking root domains while the latter only has 195. Even for 1,200 linking root domains, 93k total links seems like a ton to me. Our site has 101 linking root domains and only 299 'total links'. I'm quite new to this whole SEO game and admittedly still learning a TON. Am I missing something here? How do sites generate so many links? This seems nuts to me. Thanks for any help!

HTML E-mail Preventing Link Request?
Hi there, The last couple of months we have had quite a few link request e-mails apparently not being received. Our e-mails are sent out through Mozilla Thunderbird, so not an e-mail platform. However we use a HTML template to ensure our business logo and footers are consistent and to help raise awareness of the brand. Is there any chance that some e-mails may well be blocked (e.g. by filters) because we're using HTML e-mails rather than a standard e-mail format and does anyone have any advice for ensuring e-mails get through (other than getting the right contact name if possible).
