Those links are all top stories from that site, and I'm guessing they're Google News related or Schema-related (microdata / metadata / whatever you'd like to call it).

I see them showing up for CNN, NYT and Fox News, but not for sites like Techcrunch or the Seattle Times, so not sure if they're easy to get or not.

If you plug a NYT article into the Google Snippet Tester you'll see that they're using pretty basic metadata.

We're looking at providing SEO for a website that has the majority of its incoming links from websites created solely to provide links. Few have bad spam rankings. How worried should I be about those links?

The majority of incoming links to a prospect's website are from website pages apparently created solely to provide links to the website. Few have high spam scores. The sites linking to the main site have versions of blogs with linked text. They seem to be providing positive SEO value now, but I'm concerned they might get noticed and hurt the main site in the future.

Link removal

We were hit by penguin and have been going through the process of removing bad links. Things were looking up but then wasa 20% jump in our bad links. They all seem to be related. There are over 100 different domains that all seem to go back to mbiz. examples include http://www.5stone.com.cn/Literature-holders-.html http://www.building-stone.com/Display-furniture.html http://www.china-tombstone.com/Display-exhibition-products-.html It looks like they have automatically gathered data from google to create these pages. I would hope that the guys at Google are clever enough to be aware of these sorts of links. But if not I need to get them removed. I have tried whois but I cant find out how to contact these guys. Has anyone got any bright ideas? Thanks

Too many on page links

Hi i'm new to MOZ, after sacking my SEO consultant due to the penguin update. My site position isn't fantastic right now for my national and local search terms 😞 The first problem i have is tackling too many on page links. I understand it should be 100 or less, unless users would benefit more. Looking at my links i have up to 200 on page links (which i know are not beneficial or user friendly). If i give you an example this page has 208 links: http://www.drivejohnsons.co.uk/blog/page/3 Heres another one with 157 links: http://www.drivejohnsons.co.uk/author/admin/page/2 Here's one that isn't associated with my blog that has 188 links: http://www.drivejohnsons.co.uk/testimonials On average most pages excluding the blog have around 120 links per page and i know thats to do with my Nav Bar - which i will sort out. My question is: Because the majority of these high link pages are associated with my blog, will that affect my site SEO performance? If yes, does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can reduce the total links on each page within my blog? The more i blog, this number is only going to increase 😞 Im using wordpress. Is this link Followed?

Hi All, Noticed this link in opensiteexplorer. Its not marked as no-follow, but not sure if this link would pass any value? http://goafrica.about.com/od/southafrica/a/selfdrivesa.htm Click on any external link, it takes you to a "preview" page from within the main website. Is this a false positive? As in it shows as a follow link, but when you actually click it, it doesnt redirect to the website. Any thoughts on this? Greg

What are the pros and cons of using a link builder? Can link building be outsourced?

Hi, I have great content on my website which I would like to build external links to from other websites. I am told this will increase my domain authority and ultimately help search engine ranking positions. I have very limited time in my hands and now thinking of outsourcing the link building component to a specialist. Is this a good way of doing it? Could you recommend professional link builders?

Do links within imbeddable widgets carry link juice?

I'm dipping my toes into infographic design. On of my desired outcomes is to gain links by having other sites embed my graphic. I'm considering using Tableau's interactive data visualization software to do so; thus creating a widget, embedding it on my blog, and including the embed code for others to post. Is it possible to include a juice passing link in such an infographic? I know its possible to include links inside the tableau graphic but not sure if they have straight SEO value. If these links are not juice passing would it be better to go with a simple image link that passes value?
