Where does Google say this?
-
Just came across this article: http://www.searchmarketingstandard.com/tips-for-avoiding-thin-content
And, it states, "Google says that it will ignore pages with less than 200 words of body text "
I submitted a comment to the author, but was wondering in the meantime if anyone knows where Google says this?
-
Thank you everyone for the great advice! That's what I thought, but just wanted to double check.
-
Sounds like drivel, poppycock and shenanigans to me!
-
A quick Google search proves that this is not at all true (like most online SEO advice ).
On the other hand, having 200 words of really strong content on a page can really help your rankings.
-
That portion of the blog looks fishier than Rock's avatar. Just the idea of word limitations smacks of inviting SEO's to pad content with irrelevant hooey. I am curious to see if the author can come up with some legit attribution.
-
I think that you should not take this as true.
It's weird because there are zillions of pages with relevant content that have less than 200 words, mainly news sites.
I'm used to write blog articles around 400 words, that is the standard size for a article.
But, you could ask the writer where did she get that info.
That's why you should put a link to the page where you picked informations.

I can see where the writer is going however Google will crawl anything it just not rank it unless it has relevance enough to push past the freshness algo, if that was true how could some of these basic social posts rank with little content. Thin content is only one of thousands of parts to the algo.

I find that very hard to believe, I have never heard of it.

Google finding my meta descriptions
I recently had my site redone (about a year ago). Since then google has not been using my meta descriptions much and more so using the descriptions within my site. Is there a reason for this? An example would be http://www.waikoloavacationrentals.com/vrp/unit/kolea-14/

Google's mobile-friendly update. How significant is the impact for us?
Hi guys. Recently I got an email from Webmaster-tools saying our site is poorly optimised for mobile devices, and that it’s going to heavily affect rankings from April 21st. I’m worried to say the least. We literary cannot afford a hit on traffic at the moment 😞 We rank well for niche terms like ‘customised diary’ and ‘personalised diary’. So question... Because we rank well for these very specific searches will we still take a hit on rankings after the update? Won’t our high relevancy for those search terms be enough to keep us high in the results? Also, do you know if this change is specific to the users device? E.g) Someone on a mobile device will get mobile-friendly results, whilst users on a laptop will get different results altogether? I'm just trying to get a sense of how much this update will effect us. Any isights, suggestion, or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Our site. Thanks in advance. This community is invaluable to us 🙂 Isaac - TOAD Diaries.

Will Google re-index the page if content is changed/improved?
Hello,
On-Page Optimization | | wickedsunny1
i have a little question, it seems most of my posts which are 3 years old or even more, all have almost same type of 2-3 lines of text at post starting and then images roundups etc.
which recently stopped getting any traffic from google. Probably becuase of lack in text etc.
So if i now edit those old pages, will they be reindexed in google with this new content/data?
thanks in advance.

Google indexing https insted of http pages
Hi!
On-Page Optimization | | ovieira
First of all i have a Wordpress portuguese languagem website (**http://**bit.ly/TGjpVx). For a while, for security pourposes, i had a SSL certificate installed on my website but i didn't renew it, for a few months now. I didn't have any special https page. All pages responded using http or https. My problem is that it seems that Google still indexes some o my webpages with https and not http, so when people click on it they get a bad cached page. No good for SEO, i think. What can i do about this? I only want Google, and other serach engines, to index my clean http pages (about 70 pages). Thanks,

Seeking a Google Penalty / Panda & Penguin recovery expert
Hi folks, I've been dealing with an online travel agency who came to me looking for content marketing services. One look at their analytics & GWT was all I needed to see they have some serious site cleanup to do before they can start spending money on our services. Their search traffic floored with the first Panda update back in Feb 2011, and they've gone through all sorts of turbulence with the Penguin updates too. There are no messages in GWT, but I suspect their previous SEO guy might have deleted them to cover his tracks. I did a quick look at their link profile and there's all kinds of junk in there, they have dupe content all over the place and the whole thing needs cleaning up. In other words, it's a mess. I'd like to win some business from them, but first they need to talk to a Panda/Penguin recovery specialist. If you're interested, drop me a private message and I'll put you in touch with them. Thanks, Matt.

Optimisation for Google Images
What techniques do you use for the optimisation of images on Google. Alt tag , image title Surrounding text Anyone tested actual linking to the image url and not the page url. I have achieved hundreds of top listed images but when it gets competitive what is the most useful technique you have used. Thanks

Changing page titles and google penalties?
I just recently learned that changing your page title earns you a google penalty. Unfortunately i learned this after playing around with my page titles a bit to get the most optimal page titles. Does anybody know how long this google penalty lasts? is it forever? or just temporary?
