What is the best way to host a video on my site from a SEO perspective?
-
Hi,
we are in the process of creating a video about a topic that is highly relevant for our customers.
Once it is completed we want to offer the video to our customers so that they can embed it into their own websites for free.
What is the best way to do this and still receive maximum SEO juice?
If we use a a video service like youtube or vimeo, then the link will go to vimeo or youtube and not our site.
One thing we are thinking about is asking our customers to link to our site in return for embedding the video, but if there is an automatic solution then this would be a lot better.
Any tips will be highly appreciated! If you have anyother tips regarding video content then the same of course!
Many thanks!

Thanks for your help Robert!
I just read Phil's post and it complements EGOL's answer really well. Thanks for pointing me into the right direction!
Best,

Thank you EGOL!

Daan,
EGOL says it well here.
A few months ago, Phil Nottingham with Distilled posted a response to a question and contained some of what EGOL has here and additional information. I suggest you look at this too, as it was excellent. Phil Nottingham - Best Way to Host Video

Here is what I do... I don't know if it is the "best way"... and I am willing to bet that "best way" for you might be different from "best way" for me.
I operate on the fact that YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world... and I also know that YouTube will promote my video as "related" when many other videos are viewed.
So, I upload my videos to YT and write a big, detailed description that contains links to related pages on my website and tell visitors there is LOTS MORE HERE. (I know that they are nofollow links but you never know what google does with those links
My videos also have EGOLsDomain.com obviously visible in the video window. So people know where to find my site.
I am not doing this for the links. There is more valuable fruit here.
I also place the video on a page of my website that has what I believe is best-on-the-web content for that topic. So anybody who lands on my site will see the video plus more.
So, now I have a really rich page of content on my site to pull traffic. Maybe search engines will rank my page better because it has a video and a big caption under the video and a substantive article below it. My videos get viewed a lot on youtube by searchers. They also get viewed a lot from related video links. My videos appear in the Google SERPs. Some people click the links in my description... some people see the URL in the video window and arrive at my site as "type-in traffic".
If you have read the posts that I make here you know that I am a preacher on "do not give your content away"... however, I think that giving content to youtube is the exception. And if another webmaster posts my video on his site then his viewers will see my URL in the video window, hear me mention it, have opportunity to click to my channel... decide if my video has good information and maybe that inspires them to visit my site.
Bottom line... if you have good information in a video give it to youtube... if your video sucks then you better not show it to anybody.

Videos on Home Page
Hello, My company is currently in the process of editing our website's homepage. My creative team wants to add several videos to an already big home page. I would like a more simple and less interactive home page. There has to be close to a half dozen videos already on the page. I know that Google bots have trouble crawling some items like java. I also know that page speed is a huge factor and the mobile first index is quickly approaching. Is it ok to have all of these videos on home page? Could this due harm to the page. All the videos are hosted on Vimeo and typically expand from some sort of icon. Page load time has been an issue and this will probably be our last update before google's mobile first index. I just want to make sure I am giving the correct advice by saying there is no problem with 6+ videos on a home page. Any advice would be great! Thanks!

Local seo strategy for local gardening business ideas?
Hi all, I am just setting up a local organic garden maintenance business in my home town. I have set up the website, got social media accounts active (FB, Twitter and G+), set up google local listing (currently 5th in the local maps thingy), I have done loads of citations (many more than my competitors, but not a ridiculous amount), I've got 4 customer reviews on google so far, checked my DA against my competitors (mine 1, my comps 8-9), checked my comps links (less than 10) and been writing a blog on my website every couple of days. I realise the one thing I have against me is that my domain is just less than a month old. How long until google builds a bit of trust in it to see it come up in the serps? Also, I would love some ideas of what else I can be doing in the mean time. The idea here is to get the site rocking on all cylinders before the gardening season starts again in March. Do-able?

Internal Linking | Site Architecture & Impact of PANDA
Recently, an SEO told me about a problem with my site architecture. Before I take any action, I would like some advice on this. May be this is basic for may people who read this. My e-commerce site has over 400 pages - all of which are regularly updated. I sell 4 products and all 400 pages have an image (which says "subscribe now") clicking on which gets the user to the subscription/payment page. Many pages have 3 images on the same page (mostly because these pages are huge with more than 2000 words on each page and they require a lot of scrolling down, so we placed the "subscribe now" button at the top, middle and end of page). Now effectively this means that there are over 1000+ images pointing to the subscription/ payment page. (1) I have been told that I should either remove these or put a "nofollow" on these images/subscribe now buttons. Should I do either? Similarly, I have a legal disclaimer at the end of each page with a link to a detailed disclaimer page (this appears once under each page) followed by a standard boilerplate language (which I think will be about 15% of the total page content). (2) Should I use image for the language instead? Does it count as duplicity of content? Note: All redirects and pages are on the same/ my own domain.

Video on Home page
Would it be good SEO practice to place a video on the home page? http://villasdiani.com Right in the middle of the home page is a text about Villas Diani, I would like to remove it and rather place there always one of our newest videos which will start play once somebody lands there. As we are the only one of our competitor who has also videos of property rentals I would like to make out of it an advantage for our website which is not ranking:-( I am very new to seo and I am very scared to do such move which might even worsen all:-( I will appreciate any help

Video Transcription
Does anyone have any best practices for video transcription strategy. We download the file at youtube, edit it, remove the time and upload it again, where youtube adds the time according to the edited file I've seen some transcripts under the video section that have not time on that? Does anyone know how that's done? I've also seen keywords added into those? Any recommendations around that. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

SEO for Explicit / Medical Pictures - Will It Hurt Rankings?
I have a client with page 1 rankings for several keywords. He wants to make some updates to his website. He is offering a new service and wants to show before and after photos of the procedure. He is an OB/GYN, so the before/after pictures are very explicit and have full nudity. How will this affect his rankings? Is there something that I can do to tell Google and other SE's that these photos are medical and not pornographic? Should I host them on another domain? Just looking for thoughts and insight. Thank you in advance!
