What is the best way to know your accurate ranking on google? what analytics are most trustworthy?

with seomoz, i rank on google in one spot. With market samurai, I rank in another spot, With KPMRS (or whatever) i rank another place. But then when i just type my keywords into google, it puts me in a whole different world...
am confused...
and the client i am trying to help rank higher is confused.

In addition to the earlier points on "depersonalization", it may turn out that you actually want to report on localized results.
Is your client trying to attract visitors in a specific location?
Have you looked at how different browser locations impact searches for your "best" keywords?
Have you looked at how Google suggest / instant may impact searches for your "best" keywords?
Search "scientists" should collect all of the relevant data and then analyze it relevant to the goals of the campaign.
That means looking at unpersonalized, personalized, and relevant localized results.

With a marketing client it is imperative that you get away from "where do I rank" as a conversation. That conversation invariably leads to... "this email says I am on page 8 and they can get me number 1..."
There has to be planning ahead of time and you have to set benchmarks around site performance before and after, etc. To try and live or die by ranking is insanity today. Dr Pete had great post on the SERPs not being the SERPs any more which further shows how muddy the water is becoming.
Show your client where they were in traffic, conversions,etc. (ok some ranking is fine if it is part of a package of results - good or bad). Give them results on a 1 to 4 week basis depending on type of client (eCommerce may need more frequent, etc.). Teach your client that it is not about fast and/or ranking. It is about conversions to sales, clients, etc.

If you turn Google instant search off, and then add "&pws=0" to the end of the URL after you perform a search and resubmit the URL, it should depersonalize and delocalize your search. Google takes almost everything it can into account in terms of browsing data, location, history, whether you're logged into a Google account, and more. So these searches won't take your location or user data into account, so they're the most general searches you can perform.

I get different rankings using different browsers at my office. I can remote to a computer on the other side of a small town and see different rankings. I can get out my ipad and see different rankings and check my iphone and get different rankings. (all of these are done logged out of google but using different machines, different ISPs, and desktops, laptops, tablets and phones).
Also did you know that google is always running experimental SERPs and those often involve A/B or multivariate testing? (Read "In the Plex" if you want to learn a lot about google experiments.)
What are the correct rankings?
I trust SEOmoz because all of the browser and location and history data are eliminated (I think)... and I also think that that the progress of your rankings over time is more important than where you rank on this device or that at a random moment of time.

I can see competitors ranking for certain long-tail keywords but cannot find them on web pages. What am I missing?
Hi there. I'm pretty new to SEO and I've been doing a fair bit of training but there is one aspect I have yet to grasp. When I carry out keyword research, I get all these results and I understand the metrics. What I'm not getting is, when a competitor is ranking highly for say "where can I buy fresh turkeys", I assume that that phrase must appear somewhere on the page, but it doesn't. # of links and how it impacts ranking
Hi everyone I was running a competitor analysis in Moz Pro of my site and 3 competitors that are ranked above me. One of the things I noticed is that my # of total links is very high compared to 2 of my competitors(please see attachment). Other seo tools are telling me the same. This is mainly due to a few affiliate sites that have us in their footer. I was wondering if this could impact our ranking if some of these sites have very low domain authority and have thousands of backlinks to our site? I am looking into starting the disavowing process. Why competitors rank with no content & filters
We're investing a lot in on-page content and creating categories/sub categories to target relevant keywords. Although it seems competitors with high domain authorities are clearly dominating in the SERPs and the pages have NO content. They are literally filters that create landing pages. For example when you search "Kaydian Beds", Debenhams rank below the manufacturer with just a filtered page, this page has not been optimised with content to target the keywords, only the META title changes depending on the chosen filter. Is there any update on Google Search Results
I am following some keywords for my website on google. About a month, on the first page of these keywords, there are a lot of changes on ranking. 3-4 website has been falling to 2.3.page and new 3-4 website are shown on 1.page. But these new sites has 0 pagerank and there are no backlinks..These are new websites. What is the reason is there any update on Google search results ?

Best type of backlinks... Right? What do you think?
I was just thinking... wouldn't the best types of backlinks for any small local business be from "their own competitors" ? Weird, I know... but it would NOT get any more relevant than that. I mean wouldn't an Italian restaurant in New York gain credibility and higher ranks on SE's if "other" 'Italian restaurants in New York' linked back to them? Problem... yeap! It would be really hard to convince your "competition" to link back to ya! no matter how good your content piece is! Thoughts?

How do I know if I have been hit by penguin?
My results as they actually appear on google.ie (I physically check weekly) have dropped back over the last 2-3 weeks. How can I tell if this is as a result of Penguin? I have checked webmaster to look into my Avg Position and webmaster is telling me for the last month it has improved which from physical checks I can confirm it hasn't. Is there anywhere I could definitevely check if I have been marked down by google as a result of penguin OR whether my rankings have shifted down because Penguin has promoted other sites? Thanks,

What's the best way to make sure a link is worth getting?
I know what tools to use and I use all of SEOmoz's tools daily. PA, DA, MR, & MT are all things I take into account, but sometimes all you have to do is look at a site and you can tell it's not worth it. I'll analyze the page's backlink's and everything in between. Are there any tricks out there that can help the decision making process? I'm tired of trying to get links on sites that clearly are not worth it, but all of their stats say otherwise. So do you stick with stats, or is it a judgement call? I'm particularly curious about determining the amount of possible traffic from a link. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
