IPTC information in JPEG images
-
I distribute a product in the US and I do my own product shoots. Some distributors in other countries use my images. I don't mind them using my images, but I would like for them to include all the IPTC data such as copyright and my URL. Is there any SEO benefit to me if these images on other sites include my URL, etc.
Best,
Christopher -
If search engine robot can't read this information then it means that it is useless for search engine optimization. It will only help to increase your brand name population !
The best way to check is to place an image with your details on your website. Then open Google Webmaster tools open it as a Google bot. I am pretty sure that it can't read this hidden information.
Cheers,
Russel

Thanks for the quick response. The no-follow and ALT text is in the HTML code. I was referring to the information contained in the JPEG file itself. I put copyright, URL, and other information in the JPEG meta data. When others use my images, they may strip this data. Is there any evidence that leaving this information, and in particular, the URL that points to my site, will enhance my SEO?
Best,

Actually any image which has a URL (without "No-follow tag") pointing to your website brings SEO value, specially if it has ALT text with your particular keyword, which you want to rank well in SERP!
But from another side if website with this image is not relevant to yours then the value will be very low, may be even zero.
Cheers,
Russel

Effects of a bad link linking to a image
i am getting a lot of links from wallpapers sites.. One person has created 1000's of similar sites that are linking back to my images. My guess is images do not pass link value positive or negative. But I am not sure what the potential effects would be. Does anyone know who linking to images might effect SEO especially when there coming from horribly low quality auto generated sites.

Does an external link to an image file on my site help my SEO?
I found a few websites that are displaying images from my site. Curiously, they have also linked these images to the source image file on my website. I found these because Moz showed these sites in my list of backlinks. I assume that means it impacts my Domain Authority. But does this actually help me in search engines since it's not linking to a page on my site?

Advantages of Replacing Anchor Text with an Image?
Greetings, I was reading the a recent case study pertaining to Penguin 2.1. (My website was hit hard) It stated: "While classifying the website’s anchor texts (sorted by count), the first thing that strikes you is that the vast majority of the anchors are straight money keywords, which could be a possible reason for the penalty." My website suffers from a similar situation. Is there any advantage to replacing the links to my website on my affiliate sites with images instead of using Anchor Text? My manager is concerned with losing so many backlinks. Thanks!

Wired image releases via Creative Commons for SEO
Wired Magazine has started to publish images under CC licence as reported here: http://www.niemanlab.org/2011/11/wired-releases-images-via-creative-commons-but-reopens-a-debate-on-what-noncommercial-means/ The images are found here http://www.wired.com/rawfile/2011/11/creative-commons/ They allow noncommercial use (though this is not clearly defined) and request to attribute to the original source and "ask for a link back to the original story where the photo first appeared". The latter does not seem to be compulsory, but of course is a great SEO tactic to generate deep links. What's your take on this? Does anyone have experience with providing image material with the request to attribute you as the original source?

Image only badges giving link juice!?!?
I see some chatter about badges, but no clear definition. A collegue of mine instituted badges on clients website, but these badges are only an image w/ hyperlink; no textual content. He is confident that this has worked successfully before as a link building strategy, which blew my mind. I thought we needed some text, and obviously optimizes anchor text for biggest benefit. Are these simple badges helpful, or do we need some html in there!? He also routes them through bit.ly to track impressions and clicks.. does that have any effect as well? Thanks!

Do image links with no alt tags pass link value?
"... an image link with no alt tag is useless to search engines..." according to a Nov 2007 seomoz blog post. Is this still the case in 2011? I ask because I'm about to obtain a banner link on a high-traffic site (chiefly for the clickthrough value) but I notice the site uses neither "title" nor "alt" tags.

Alt Image Tags
Hi, Do you think an alt image tag on an image as a link is going to impart the same juice or targeting as a link with a text anchor? So, for example, if one made a clickable image link with the alt image tag of "bowling balls" would that do as much for you as the text "bowling balls" as the anchor link? Thanks! Best...Michael
