DMOZ - Can Anybody every Can get in the DMOZ Directory?
-
It's still worth submitting a site to DMOZ. It's a trustworthy site.
If you're really concerned about getting trustworthy links but don't have much budget then consider whether you want to edit the subcategory you wish your link to appear in.
-
With DMOZ it is one of those sites where you submit your listing and simply check back in 6 months. But yes I probably have had about 20 sites accepted into different sections, I have also purchased a few sites already with listings in DMOZ.
As it is a free directory you can not really expect speedy acceptance as Ryan said with some niches things do live far quicker.
But to be honest DMOZ does not have the authority and weight it once did say 7 years ago.

You can either APPLY to take over the category if it is open, or you can contact the category operator one tier higher and share your concern.

Whoever runs the social media marketing category quit years ago and no one bothered to replace them. There is only like 5 or 6 results!!
-
The issue with DMOZ is their structure. The site is run by volunteer category owners. The volunteers are only required to log in once every 6 months to maintain their status. Some categories are run by diligent volunteers who actively log in weekly and diligently manage their category. Others are run by people who simply don't care.
The result is some site owners are able to get into DMOZ very fast, while others cannot get in at all.

URL SEO: Better directory structure vs. exact keyword phrase
I am trying to understand how to best optimise a url for a page to rank high for specific keywords. Example: a top keyword search is "rental properties in new york". Question is does this keyword need to appear as this exact phrase in the url or should it be broken up into different directories for a better structure e.g.: www.abc.com/en/properties/new-york/rental OR www.abc.com/en/rental-properties-in-new-york Which will help the page rank higher (given all other things on the page are exactly the same)? Thanks!

Is Google indexing something I can't see on my page title?
When I do a search for my businesses website (colourpages.com) it returns a listing which is great but the title tag includes Hull Colour Pages which is our old brand name - we changed to colourpages.com 2 years ago yet Hull Colour Pages is still pulling through on the title tag. I have checked the source and it's as follows: <title>Plumbers in Hull - Reviews - colourpages.com</title> I have attached a photo which shows the issue - http://imgur.com/Cva3001 Is Google indexing it from old history that is no longer visible or am I missing something? Can't rank for a target key word "penalized?"
I've been trying to rank for the key word "kayak fishing" for my site www.yakangler.com. Last year when I started working on the SEO for my site I was on page 30 for Google search results so like the 300th result. After tweaking things on my site I managed to get to the second page but have since fallen all the way back to page 25-26 in the search results. I'm wondering if I'm penalized for this key word. I can't figure out why my site is ranking soooo badly for "kayak fishing" Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

How many keywords max can I optimize each page for?
I don't want to over optimize by doing 1 keyword per 1 page, but then if I do more, seomoz on-page tool report doesn't give an A grade for each keyword I optimize. I usually optimize for max 3 keywords that are very closely related, meaning they use the same words. Ex. dentist los angeles, los angeles dentist, dentist in los angeles Am I on the right track or what's your recommendation? Should I create different landing pages for each keyword?

Do I need a Meta description for every page?
HI Guys, We have just developed a new website and I'm looking to add meta descriptions with relevant key words to the pages . As the site has over 80 pages it is quite an undertaking and i was wandering if pages, such as the shopping cart and FAQ's etc, need meta descriptions as well? Thanks in advance : ) Pete

Is it possible to get good SEO results with small brochure websites?
Say I have a 5 page website with 300 words and 4 images on each page. No or little dynamic content. No blog. Is it still possible to get good SEO results in a site like this? what would be the best strategy? what challenges would I need to over come? or is it just too much of an up hill battle?
