Is publishing content on multiple platforms like Tumblr, Blogger, Posterous, etc. a legit way to build backlinks?
-
My client has a fishing report that is published weekly on his blog. Would it be wise to syndicate that content on these other services with backlinks baked into each one?
Any thoughts?

Saibose,
Do you think links from a wordpress blog are better?
-
Yes they did. Thanks for reminding me about it Keri!

ap4runner, did these responses answer your question, or do you still have open questions? It'd be great to have a reply from you or an answer marked helpful. Thanks!

If this is manual, this would be another channel as you say. So you could create 1 account in each in these sites and manage them very well - following other fishing sites on a given platform, connect to twitter and much more as Barry said.
Then this is totally legit to put an excerpt of the original article, made from scratch or reworded, and then put a link to the full article.

Posterous and platforms like tumblr, blogger do not necessarily count as legitimate backlinks, but they are good for SEO. If you have mentions of these on blogger, tumblr and posterous, you may have a better visibility on SERPs based on Google's algorithm's QDF factor.
Therefore, it maybe a good idea to post on these websites in legitimate ways to get leverage.

Ah, I didn't read this as fake blog, I saw it as manual syndication; rather than say putting a RSS feed on a Facebook page, it was manually posting about it on a 'branded' hosted blog (mydomain.wordpress.com for example).
I think putting content in front of people using whatever channels they already use is a good way of driving traffic and getting links from other influencers on those platforms.

I think you are asking if Google / Bing would consider this out of the guidelines. If you publish the exact same content on blogging platform, you will get not much from these. If you create a LOT of those fake blogs, you may even be penalised.
This may work if performed in a smart manner - different content, no systematic backlink and much more to create a credible blog. This is hard though, if your client is not publishing his content on blog aggregators, I would recommend doing so - just be aware of the risk of being ranked after the aggregator if the client's site has weak mRank.
-
Yup Well, kind of.
There's a couple of things I do with content that I want to share this way
a) Make sure there are links back to my site and
b) Slightly reword itI'm not talking about spinning the article into 100 different versions, one for each site I'm putting it on (though if you want some names to help you do that... :D), but I try and give the reader a reason to come through to the site proper.
So some sites I post an edited version, some sites I do an editorialised version ie I blog about my blog (yo dawg, I herd you like blogs).
For most value out of them, it's (reasonably) important to actually build the profile of the blog your publishing it on within the community as well, so follow other fishing blogs on each, repost on your tumbler, fill in a full profile, etc
Remember even if some of the places your posting links are nofollowed, having a good social profile is an indicator that you have a legit site (for the time being), so there is value beyond the direct links as well.
However, I wouldn't rely purely on these kind of links to get me ranking.

Where should I centre my content Hubs?
I look after a manufacturing site which has a well structured architecture when it comes to our products. There is also a benefits section and an about section. In addition to managing the three main information sections I've also been setting up a blog with topical content divided into four categories (Built environment, Secondary glazing in practice, Treat of the month, Project profile). My question is, where do I position my content hubs? Having worked through Cyrus's 'How to Rank 25 Step Master SEO Blueprint', I've realized that my approach of simply linking back to main top level pages is at best arbitrary, at worst negative in terms of SEO. Would I be better off asking our designers to set up category landing pages within the blog that relevant new copy can be linked to (currently the blog is just set up without category landing pages and I categorize each post with a tag that is used to sort the posts into their respective location on the blogs homepage? Currently the blog is an option on the main sites top level navigation and I link relevant blog pieces to relevant areas within the site. Basically I'm struggling to understand how to implement Cyrus's recommendation to create themes with my current website structure. Can anyone help? Thanks Mozers

We had a blog that has been inactive since 2011\. Now since the website is redesigned and we are working on link building, is it advisable to use the old blog content in the new blog?
The content of the old blog belongs to the company, hence no issues of copied content. The options I have are: 1. Use old content as is 2. Re-use old content in more interesting format i.e use info-graphics and the likes 3. Do not use any of the old content. Create new content

Which number is important for backlinks?
I'm getting very confused. What is the important number regarding backlinks to my site? The Moz number vs. Hubspot grader spits out vastly different numbers. For the particular site I'm trying to improve, I don't have Webmaster Tools installed yet (waiting for webmaster to do as it doesn't have asynchronous code on it). Also apologies for novice question but I remember once being told that offpage SEO and specifically the amount of external backlinks is responsible for 75% of your SERP. Is that still the case?

What backlink is better?
Hi Guys I recently helped out a friend with some marketing advice and to do me a favour back he said that he'll put a link on his site back to my website. Just some background on the site, it is very high quality with DA of 71 with each blog post/inner page having roughly PA of 45, it's been online for 15 years and has nearly 4,000 indexed pages and 10,000 links. Anyway my question is would it be better to get a sitewide link in a sidebar that is displayed on every page of his website or would it be better to write a blog post on the site that links back to mine? Thanks

Link over-building?
Hello all. One of the first things we do for our clients is to claim their local listings, include them on a set of selected directories (8-10), and blog directories (5), if applicable. Since they will all be linked to the client site, could doing all of this at once run us into problems with unnatural link growth? Thanks! Frank

Would you suggest submitting a website to a travel platform which gets backlinks from link farms?
The website of the travel platform is well designed and looks serious - without any adsense or suspicious links on it. So does the email newsletter of them. But I checked the domain in OSE and saw not less links which came from more or less linkfarms with very often the same anchor text. Would you suggest your customer to submit on the platform?
