Does redirect of domain alias help rankings?
-
Yes... It iz I again ;o)
Here's one for you savy techies out there:
So, I've got a primary domain which is live, optimized and running smooooth. And then I've got a couple of misspelled domains as well (17 to be exact).
- Will it have an effect if I 301 those misspelled domains?
- What's Best Practice for several domain aliases?
Example.
Primary domain: bryghusprojektet.dk
Alias domain 1: bryghusprojekt.dk (301 redirects to primary domain)
Alias domain 2: bryghus-projekt.dk (Hosting company infopage)
Alias domain 3: bryghus-projekter.dk (Not activated)Regards.

Are any of these domains indexed? Do any of them have links to them? If they are neither indexed nor have any links, then redirecting them will do nothing as search engines don't know they exist anyway. The only value for you is with direct traffic. When people misspell your domain if you have all those possible misspellings redirect to you then they end up on your site no matter what. You also prevent competitors from taking something very close to your domain name and pretending to be you.
The only time this can have an effect is if you buy domains. If you go out and buy domains that are indexed with links to them and then 301 redirect all of them to your website then this is what is referred to as doorway pages. You are essentially buying pagerank. Google no like.
I have had success with a domain like mythings.com and buying mything.com and redirecting it and getting a good bump. But it was only one domain and it was very similar. If you go out and buy expired domains or high PR domains and redirect them all you can have trouble. But in your case, just redirecting a bunch of domains that are essentially invisible to search engines won't have any positive or negative effects.

Moving Shopify from a Sub Domain to the Full Domain
Apologies if this has been asked before. Currently we have a Shopify shop on a subdomain shop.lucybee.com a blog on subdomain blog.lucybee.com and the full domain of course. We'd now like to move everything onto Shopify on the full domain. Therefore the blog rolls into Shopify. We'll manually move pages into Shopify. Any advice or links to resources on how to manage would be gratefully received. Thank you , Jim

Are domain variations hurting our rank?
Hi, I have a client who registered many different variations of their domain name, that are pointing to the website. Now I see that many high value links are not linking to the main domain, but a hyphen variation. So when the main domain is something like www.brandservicename.com The links go to www.brand-service-name.com I suppose they should change all those links (if possible), but does it really make a difference? Thank you!

Will Redirection of Unnatural Links to the New Domain will work?
Hi All, If a website www.mywebsite.com has received 100 unnatural links and because of that rankings are dropped. I want to follow the below strategy to protect my website from these 100 unnatural links. Please let me know if it will work: Buy a new domain www.newdomain.com with new whois record (Not related to www.mywebsite.com ) Do 301 redirection of all 100 unnatural links (Those are pointing to www.mywebsite.com) to www.newdomain (New domain) Do 302 redirection from www.newdomain (New domain) to www.mywebsite.com (Old Domain) After applying the above strategy, will google still consider those 100 unnatural links for Old domain??

Should you change Temporary redirects 302's to a 301 even if page is not important/intended for ranking ?
Hi Whilst i appreciate its best practice to 301 redirect permanently moved pages, what if the page is say a login page or other page you not really interested in ranking or transferring juice to ? is it still important/best practice to do so simply because the page has permanently moved hence should still be a 301 even though you don't really want it to rank ? cheers dan

Old domain vs. New keyword domain - Thoughts?
Okay. I'd like to get opinions as to what everyone thinks about domains lately. Here is any example: The current domain is general in nature, in fact, it's a persons name because they are a real estate agent. So the domain is something like JohnDoe.com. Current stats: Has approx. 130 linking domains pointing to it. Has over 300 incoming links from these linking domains. The link profile is clean and not spammy (not to say there are not a few that might be here and there) Was bough in 1994 The new domain would have very little value except it would be keyword rich such as PortlandHomesForSale.com (just an example). What are your thoughts. Thank you.

Root domain ranks higher than sub pages
Our website is over 10 years old and has been very successful with google. We rank highly for our keywords, but recently a strange thing has happend. Google has indexed a video from our front page (which no longer exists) and shows this listing instead of the sub pages. This means the listing is irrelevant to the search term. Term is "Junior Cricket Bats"

Thanks! GaB
