Telephone numbers on page getting classed as 404s by SEOMoz
-
Hi there,
I have a number of clients who have their telephone numbers on their sites (understandably of course!) and SEOmoz is classing them as links and therefore a 404 in the crawl software.
The protocol is added in the code so if viewing the page on a mobile you can call the client.
Should I be doing anything else? Webmaster does not pick these up as 404s so I am wondering if this is an SEOmoz bug or that I should be adding a no-follow?
Thanks
jT

Hey Gentleman,
I'm sorry your running into this issue with your crawls. :[
We would definitely love to look into this for you guys, but it's a little difficult for us to do that through the Q&A forum. If you write in to help@seomoz.org with your campaign information, like SEO Consult suggested :], we can look into this issue and work on getting a fix for you.
We look forward to hearing from you both at the help desk.

The phone number obviously shouldn't be seen as a link if it's not a link. Shoot help@seomoz.org an email explaining the issue. The SEOmoz gang are awesome at replying so you'll be sure to hear back soon!

Having the same problem here! At first it counted each page as duplicate content, then 404's. I took the code off until further clarification.
One thing to note, iPhone and any newer Android will detect a phone number and should automatically make it a clickable link.

Losing Page Rank
Hello Moz I launched a re-design of our site over the summer and we jumped in organic search for some keywords. Recently one of our landing pages is being hammered by Google last we we lost one position this week we lost 5 positions. Although, when I check the on-page grade Moz gives it an A is there a check sheet anyone has that I could go through to see if I have any common problems. Ryan

Number of Words Product Pages
Hello, Can you give me some examples of how many words you use for product pages? I know it's going to vary and that quality is more important than number of words, but what's been optimal for you and why?

Product page optimalisation
Throughout the years our website kept on growing this has led to product pages that have so much sub-pages that nobody is able to really get a good idea of the product. We are working on a new website where the visitor is central. Together with a usability partner we have down sized the preferred data to fit on one page with a tabular system with a maximum of 4 taps. My question will this affect our find ability if we go from 10 to 15 sub-pages to one main page

Fixing large number of 404s
Hi Newbie SEO here.... I converted quite a massive site to wordpress (www.yourbusinesschannel.com). For a number of reasons, over 1000 pages were not converted and the URLs could not easily be preserved in any event I am now going to add these pages back by importing a large CSV into wordpress. However what is the best way to tell google that the pages are now back and at new addresses? Is it to submit a site map and get the site recrawled from scratch?

Page Rank Drop
Just trying to get more feedback - so we recently edited title and meta descriptions for existing website SEO and we've noticed in the past several weeks, our client's website has dropped out of the top 50 in a variety of terms we were targeting that they used to show up for (note: when updating SEO, we DID NOT remove any relevant terms we were targeting). When the website does come up in searches, it is the old meta description and title. So far, the feedback we've gotten is that first, it takes Google a few weeks to recrawl and index - however, we are now on week 3 after the changes and still no rebound in rankings. We were also told to check with the SEO Moz page grader to be sure the keywords were being optimized correctly - got As and Bs for the test terms I tried. We also submitted an XML site map to speed up the crawl process as another user suggested. We've tested the site with various tools to make sure there are redirect errors, etc. and everything looks fine. Again, it's now been 3+ weeks and no ranking rebound. Any other suggestions on what could be happening?

On page Analysis... how does seomoz choose to match a keyword to a url?
On my "On Page" analysis report it show me a couple pages that have D ratings... one key phrase is "my destination lodging" and it is matching it up with a url like mydomain.com/my-destination-hotels.html. It says I'm ranking 37th for this term.... Is it just suggesting that I optimize this url because it is already ranking for that term? So should I create a different page with a different url to better match this phrase? Thanks for any ideas.
