4 sites on same server with similar theme
-
Hi,
We're building 4 e-commerce stores at the moment which are all very similar. They all sell sofas but to different markets. Product content will be different on each site so the content won't be duplicated but the overall theme of the sites will be the same, all on the same server, being launched at the same time.
Should I be concerned that Google may not index all of them?
Thanks,
Andy

Chas gave a very good answer.
And, more people then not will tell you working on 4 similar (but different) sites isn't the best use of time. I am one who understands that in certain cases it does make since to have 2 or maybe 3 sites in the same industry, but I wouldn't go as far as creating more then 1 e-commerce sites dealing with the same products even though the demographics maybe a little different. That doesn't make good sense to me.
Your original question I think was more about the server then this sort of advise so I'll give you the best information I have at this time. The sites will be treated as different sites, look at shop services like prostores or stores.ebay they consistently have many people on the same server and all of them are able to be indexed provided they do a fair job at SEO.
The issues you'll have is more with building unique and differentiating content for each site and getting good quality back links to each one, then it is with how search engines will treat them.
I hope that answers your questions and helps with your goals.

Google will index them all if they are correctly built to prevailing SEO standards, with optimal nav navigation, good hierarchy, perfect on page optimization, etc. Each of your domains is targeting a slightly different segment of the same market, so "retail leather sofas" and wholesale leather sofas" target their specific niches; you'll be competing against yourself for "leather sofas' (and a whole lot of other sites) but if your content is good (and differs across properties) you shouldn't have an issue getting indexed.
Our sites has 12 sub-domains covering specific sub-categories of the same general topic - with over 600K pages - 95% are indexed, and frequently pages from two or more sub-domains appear for the same search query, even though the page layouts and templates are virtually identical and have the same IP address. It's the content that differentiates them, yet at the same time makes them relevant for the same KW phrase.

What do you mean by zones? They will be targetting:
- retail sofas
- wholesale sofas
- funky sofas
- leather sofas
-
I would ask another question Andy, are you targeting different zones with the 4 e-commerce websites?

Google will index them, the question is will you be able to get all of them ranked?

Site Migration
Hi, I have been researching the best way to migrate six sites into one, since I have never done it, and I am frankly overwhelmed. Some resources say to do it incrementally, and a/b test; but I would prefer not to have to do it, as won't it present a disjointed representation for visitors? The previous sites are older and a bit clumsy compared to the new design and functionality in the new site. Can someone please tell me the right way to approach this? Or tell me the best resource for a step-by-step prep, migrate, and watch process? Thanks so much in advance!

Google cache is showing my UK homepage site instead of the US homepage and ranking the UK site in US
Hi There, When I check the cache of the US website (www.us.allsaints.com) Google returns the UK website. This is also reflected in the US Google Search Results when the UK site ranks for our brand name instead of the US site. The homepage has hreflang tags only on the homepage and the domains have been pointed correctly to the right territories via Google Webmaster Console. This has happened before in 26th July 2015 and was wondering if any had any idea why this is happening or if any one has experienced the same issueFDGjldR

Penguin recovery, no manual action. Are our EMD sites killing our brand site?
Hi guys, Our brand site (http://urban3d.net) has been seeing steady decline due to algorithm updates for the past two years. Our previous SEO company engaged in some black-hat link building which has hurt us very badly. We have recently re-launched the site, with better design, better content, and completed a disavow of hundreds of bad links. The site is technically indexed, but is still nowhere in the SERPs after months of work to recover it by our internal marketing team. The last SEO company also told us to build EMD sites for our core services, which we did: http://3dvisualisation.co.uk/ http://propertybrochure.com/ http://kitchencgi.com/ My question is - could these EMD sites now hurting us even further and stopping our main brand site from ranking? Our plan is to rescue our brand site, with a view to retiring these outlier sites. However, with no progress on the brand site, we can't afford to remove these site (which are ranking). It seems a bit chicken and egg. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Aidan, Urban 3D

Any Suggestions For My Site?
I've recently started a website that is based on movie posters. The site has fundamentally been built for users and not SEO but I'm wondering if anyone can see any problems or just general advice that may help with our SEO efforts? The "content" on the website are the movie posters. I know Google likes text content, but I don't see what else we could add that wouldn't be purely for SEO. My site is: http://www.bit.ly/ZSPbTA
