Keyword in url, which way better?

Hello, is there a difference between urls for targeting keyword "brazil tourist visa"
or
fastbrazilvisas.com/brazil-tourist-visa ?
ran the report In-Page Optimization it tells "no keyword usage in url". is there an idea behind that?

The links that you have pointed up as example here are tend to be user friendly
But if you look at your initial example: fastbrazilvisas.com/brazil-tourist-visa it would make me close the tab and try to never get back to the page. Because it looks very superficial.

Istvan, coffee does make me smaile in the morning, but ofcourse i did not mean stuffing url like that. Just an example:

Fredrik, thanks for an advice. I am aware of changing and redirecting urls. I am always trying to make urls shorter. Just started to notice that the importance of keyword after slash became greater.

I really believe stuffing the URL with keywords is at least so bad from SEO point of view like stuffing the content with keywords. One day these will be punished, or at least should be, because they are not placed there to help the visitors, they just want to add more and more related keywords in the URL.
For ex.
if the keyword I am targeting on the page is coffee i wouldn't create a page with the following url:
www.example.com/coffee-Coffee-COFFEE-etc.etc.etc.
That is soo bad. (although a lot of coffee makes people smile in the morning).

My opinion is that having the key words in the URL definitively does not harm your ranking. Dependent on if its a very broad keyword or long tail keyword it might help more or less.
If you have a technical solution making it easy to create URLS with any name then why not.
Just make sure that if you do change the keyword focus of a page, be careful not to change the URL or you will loose your pagerank.
Most CMS now do an automatic 301 when you change the URL but even so it will take time to get the old pagerank back.
Also, like Istvan mentiones, some people actually do remember URLs instead of bookmarking them, so having too long and odd URLs might not be such a good idea.

I think the same way. Just noticed yesterday a website that ranks pretty high for competitive keyword having long urls with keyword in domain and after slash. And after I saw the report from Seomoz I thought that maybe there is an idea behing that. Eventually google will decrease the importance of having keyword in domain. After the "/" it's a different story

Personally I always go after a "clean" URL. So if it would be my decision, then I would go for fastbrazilvisas.com/tourist.
Don't stuff your URLs with keywords for search engines, make them simple and easier to share.

To update or not to update news URLs ?
We manage a huge daily news website in my small country - keeping this a bit mysterious in case competitors are reading 🙂 Our URL structure is www.companyname.com/news/categoryofnews/title-of-article?id=articleid In this hyperreactive news world, title of articles change frequently (may be ten times a day for the main stories). The question we debate is : should we reflect the modification of the title in the URL or not ? Example : "Trump says he wants to ban search engines" would have URL http://www.companyname.com/news/entertainment/Trump-says-he-wants-to-ban-search-engines?id=12345678 Later in the day the title becomes "Trump denies he suggested banning search engines". Should the URL be modified to http://www.companyname.com/news/entertainment/Trump-denies-he-suggested-banning-search-engines?id=12345678 (option A) or not (option B) ? In Google News it makes no difference because of the sitemap, but in Google organic things are different. At present (option B in place), Google apparently doesn't see that the article has been updated, and shows the initial timestamp which is visually (and presumably SEOwise) not good : our new news looks like old news. Modifiying the URL would solve that issue, but could, may be, create another one : the new URL, being considered a new article, would lose, the acquired weight of the previous one in terms of referrals, social trafic and so on. How many keywords for home page?
I am a close up magician based in the UK and have just signed up for Moz Analytics and looking through the info now. The first issue was that it says my home page had an F grade for "table magician" My home page is not really optimised for table magician but Moz is suggesting I do. So my question is do I go with Moz and adjust my home page to match even though I have a dedicated page for table magician. Is this title tag for the home page too much. Keywords to optimize
In the menu there's an item with a submenu with 4 items (pages) and another item with a submenu with almost the same pages with a litle bit different content. The problem is that one keyword can be applied and must be applied to the similar pages (the topic is very similar). I guess the number of keywords that we optimize is also important too. Optimizing minimun 8 keywords seems to me very hard. I' was told to optimize for a very low number of keywords but then we have the problem of redundancy. What should I do? Thanks!

Proper way to change keywords without losing ranking
Hello Everyone, The website I am working with offers service in two locations, lets say Service in City A and Service in City B. Those two cities, which are close by, are the main source of clients, so the owner asked me to concentrate on these terms. I did a decent job for a newbie and now we are on the first page of google closer to the top for these 2 terms. The problem that I am facing right now is that a) it hard to get that extra bit from onsite optimization when you optimizing for 2 different cities b) Customers may get confused which cities we focus on A or B? We have locations in both. c) Owner wants to expand services to additional cities. So I looked at how our competitor handling these time of problem and most of them have a page with titles like "Cities we serve" with links to the individual locations that are optimized for the specific city. That page usually includes paragraph or two about local history and then re-span description of their services. Is it a good practice to structure one's website like that if you are trying to target multiple locations? Should I re-target my home page to something less geographically specific and create separate pages for Cities A , B and the new locations? Would I lose ranking for terms service in city A & service in city B because of that Or should I leave my home page optimized for Cities A & B and just add new locations as separate pages? Hi there, Need some advice please on URL structure. I have been doing SEO for quite sometime now, however one thing that always get me is URL structure. I have a decision to make, its either: URL 1 /conditions/allergies/food/ URL 2 /conditions/allergies-food/ Lets say i am optimizing for the key-phase "Food Allergies" what do you think is best practice? Keyword Landing Page Transition
We are redesigning the site to launch soon. We are a manufacturer. Our most valuable keyword currently ranks around 8th on Google in a competitive market and responds with a link to our product selection page as the landing URL. This link / URL is currently listed on every site page in a right column menu with the keyword as the anchor text. My concern is that I have redesigned this product selection page, and would like to change its file name to include the keyword as well as use the same keyword anchor text. And to complicate the matter, for political reasons my boss has asked me to consider keeping the old product page available to alleviate board concern (not rational, but may be required). Since the old page shows similar information to the new selection page, if I keep it, I am considering calling it a "Visual Selector" as opposed to the "Product Selector" menu name for the new page. I will list both in a list under the keyword product name on the home page menu and then drop the old selector page link on all other pages to lower visitor confusion. So the alternative choices to proceed are as follows: 1. Keep old and new product selection pages a. Show both on all page menus (Keeps the old page visible to Google, duplicating the current presentation for current keyword landing page) b. Only show old product page on home page menu to alleviate the Board concerns (Keeps the old page visible to Google, but with one link) 2. Get rid of the old product page and redirect URL to new one (our primary keyword would be ranked on its own merit and the current Google ranked page would redirect to the new one) Number 2 is the logical method for users, but I am nervous about dropping and/or redirecting the current landing page which ranks my best keyword at 8th in a competitive market. Your recommendations or comments? What do you predict Google will do in these three scenarios? Hope you can follow this maze... Thanks! George
