Does **tag on a product description help?**
-
Hi,
Does using the tag on a line of text in the products description help with SEO for that keyword phrase?
**See here: http://www.designerboutique-online.com/tops/passarella-death-squad/passarella-death-squad-t-shirt-white/0/
I have bolded the Passarella Death Squad T-Shirt line. Would this help in any way?
Cheers

Great question, but the short answer is “No”. Back in 1996 it may have been a small contributing factor but not today.
But…
The strong tag does have another propose.
So lets say we have an article that’s quite wordy. We all know the average web user isn’t going to read it all so this is where the strong tag can be of used.
Emphasising keywords or sentences using the bold tag is a great way of getting the message across and noticed

Hi Kieran,
Thanks for your reply. They are not a band but a designer clothing label.
The price reflect the quality of the fabric, made from fine japanese fabric. Some of the descriptions say this but I should really get it in all of them.
The problem I see is were getting hundereds of items online, going into great detail on each item description is a task upon its self.
Maybe the t-shirt image blurb would be useful as it will tell the customer exactly what it stands for.
Within that description, how many times would be recommend to get the words "passarella death squad t-shirt" in there? Currently aiming for about twice, is this ok?
Cheers
Will

I agree that there is probably next to no SEO value for using the **tag here. What I do like is that it works from a usability standpoint. To me it is natural for that line to be bolded because it is the name of the product. It makes the name stand out a bit and makes it easier for the user to know what they are looking at. For that, +1. **

Agree strongly Valery there (get it - sorry saddo response)
Strong is coming to the fore more as the default for bold on most WYSIWYG editors but I don't think Google worries too much about it. There was a lot of activity in making your first use keywords bolded for the first paragraphs to help SEO but for product pages I would personally concentrate on adding content so for the T-Shirt page that you refer to here I would write a little blurb about the group, mention the material of the T-Shirt. Even a short blurb as to what the image on the T-Shirt is about.
You are looking for people who are fans of this group (never heard of them myself) who search online If this is one opf their songs then perhaps a YouTube link. Looks like there are a lot of vendors out there selling T-Shirts of this type so make the page stand out.
IMHO bold/strong is the least of your concerns. Work the group angle as hard as possible. The T-Shirts aren't a cheap item so you should explain in the text what makes them worth the price.

From what I can tell SEO-wise they're basically the same, and they may not have any benefit at all. This is gut feel (since Google doesn't exactly publish this stuff) but strong/bold might be comparable to H5 1/2 or something like that relevance-wise.
Where it gets interesting though is semantics. STRONG implies emphasis, where BOLD is a formatting choice. From what I've been reading some semantic aware systems would give STRONG priority, whereas they would treat BOLD the same as Font-color=Blue, or some other non-semantic signal. Because of this Strong is interpreted differently in some specialist systems (e.g. readers for the blind, certain mobile browsers), but that becomes more a client side concern than an SEO one.
From a standards perspective there's some discussion saying that in the XHTML 2.0 spec Bold is actually being deprecated in favor of Strong:
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/archive/index.php/t-257310.html
Given all of that, my guess is Strong may have some weight, but not enough to be a critical factor that's going to put you 'over the top' in any meaningful way. I also don't think it hurts unless abused, and again that would only be for semantic-aware clients like visual readers and so on.

A question about title tag when the page has 2 services.
Hi all, Assuming a company has two services: SEO and PPC. Here is the situation: I would like to focus on SEO for now but also don't want to leave my PPC service out of the page. SEO accounts for 60% of the content, while PPC accounts for 40%. Assuming the content (SEO + PPC) of the page will not change, which title tag would you prefer, and why? SEO | brand name (Is it appropriate that the title focus on SEO but the content of the page contains PPC) SEO | PPC | brand name (Will the keywords dilute each other?) SEO | SEM Agency | brand name (The idea behind it is that SEM includes SEO and PPC so I think Google would be OK with the page ranking for SEO and also including PPC in the content. I really appreciate your help and explanation. Thank you!

Out of stock products?
Hi. A client runs Woocommerce platform selling clothing. This clothing is seasonal and 95% of the stock, once it sells out is never restocked with the exception of a few core items that cross over season to season. What I want to know is, whats the best way to handle items that are out of stock and never coming back? I see a few options: delete it. Losing its rank and indexed link. 301 it back to the "brands" page or the "category" page. Eg. a Armani T-Shirt can go to either Armani page or T-Shirts page keeping it relevant. Just leave the old products there saying out of stock. All have benefits to the business. Delete it. Its gone. No more trouble, extra work involved, keeps out CMS clean. Obviously good for SEO? Also good for customer to go to a relevant page. But do we end up with loads of links to manage increasing costs if a developer needs to do the work? Easiest but defo not the right option. So what is it? Is 301'ing really worth the hassle? Is it possible bearing in mind we have 500 items every 6 months going out of stock? Who 301's it? Is it possible for staff to do it in Woocommerce or does a developer have to do them everytime you need to 301 a product? What is your advise on what to do and how to do it? Thanks

Page missing meta description some times a good thing?
Just courious to why http://moz.com/learn/seo does not appear to have the meta tag: name="description" content=""> Is this purposely done this way for some reason? Or has it become less important? Just curious.

Need help in website URL Structure
I have been working on a brand new website currently it is live but I have disallow Googlebots temporarily as I dint want any negative impact. The business of the site is to generate leads , they install and sell Stairlifts and used Stairlifts. There are two main categories New Stairlifts and Reconditioned Stairlifts Currently the URL for new Stairlifts is : http://willowstairlifts.co.uk/stairlifts/ and for Reconditioned Stairlifts is: http://willowstairlifts.co.uk/reconditioned-stairlifts/ My concerns are that the word Stairlifts is mentioned twice in the urls so is it going to have a negative impact or panda penalty? I am thinking of changing them to http://willowstairlifts.co.uk/new/ and the product pages to display as http://willowstairlifts.co.uk/new/brooks/ Currently its http://willowstairlifts.co.uk/stairlifts/brooks/ Same with reconditioned Stairlifts I like to change it to : http://willowstairlifts.co.uk/reconditioned Also its product pages to http://willowstairlifts.co.uk/reconditioned/brooks/ As currently its http://willowstairlifts.co.uk/reconditioned-stairlifts/brooks/ Thanks

Ecommerce SEO - product sort order
Hi, I've been trying to find the answer to this in google but having no luck. In the current era, is it damaging to have products ordered randomly in an ecommerce website? Also, how long would you suggest is a good length of time to establish your natural rank? Ive launched and still work on several succesful ecommerce sites, but have recently launched a completely new venture - brand new url, brand new site and it has been live for around 5 weeks now, and although it is being found in search, it isnt doing as well as i'd like using the moz pro tools ive picked up some issues and have in the last few days tweaked page titles, added 'nofollow' to all my filters, added content etc, so I feel as though ive reset the clock. the site (it's an adult site by the way) is www.lovesauce.co.uk - would appreciate some feedback from the pro's

Products page design | e-commerce
Hi All, We are redesiging our ecommerce site and product page is bothering us. We want to tidy up. We want to hide some of the description with jquery script. Visitor will be able to view first 30 words and there will be a "read more" text link just after that content. If they want to read more (which we think most will do) they will have to click the text link and rest of the content will slide open in the same page. The whole content is visible from source code. Would this be ok as far as Google and SEO concerned? I hope I explained it well 🙂
