Bing Traffic drop
-
Anyone notice a drop in Bing traffic on January 26th?
Slashed by 50% and holding for the past three weeks.
100% white hat site
-
OK I see what you mean, Robert - that is a great idea.
I'm a programmer too, so a call to me isn't a phone call, it is a call of a program, in this case a direct access - from someone who typed in the url or has the site bookmarked. I'm mixing up my nomenclature, sorry for the confusion.
-
What I was talking about is sometimes we will add a phone number in the meta description to see if people will call straight to that number from the query as opposed to necessarily clicking through. (also, return customers will use it to call you back on a quick search they do remembering you have a number there). When we do this we use a tracking number that rolls to their main line. Since we employ a different tracking number for every client & every item for that client we are able to get a better grasp as to what is actually going on. An example is an attorney here that we thought was somehow having traffic 'assigned' to a large media firm he was doing business with. When we put in the meta desc. change with a number.....Voila! We had the answer.
Probably not what you are doing, but it made me wonder if that would increase your calls, while lowering your traffic, even thought 50% drop could be a lot.
Best Alan

Sorry I don't know what you mean about adding a number?
We haven't changed anything other than continuing to add 30 to 50 stories per day.
No internal structure has changed. We don't do any "link building" - all our incoming links come from people linking to content on their own.
-
Alan, if direct calls are slightly increasing but traffic is down, have you added a number to meta description, local seo, etc.?
-
Thank you Robert.
Because it is a big news site, things are always changing, but we haven't made any big changes.
no new major sources of referrals.
Most other traffic is relatively steady.
Direct calls slightly increasing.
We don't do any PPC
It isn't anything to do with terms, we don't really do that.

Alan,
I haven't seen a significant traffic drop on Bing for any of our sites (say over 10%) I have seen some odd movements in rankings on Bing for the last few months. I am not sure what they are doing overall, but it is affecting some areas more than others (an example would be around automotive where one of our clients who had been at a rank of 2 to 15 on about 15 keywords for some time, all of a sudden fell to the 30s on several. No changes to site, etc. So, we will keep digging. It can happen when someone is new are something becomes hot for some reason, but until you keep digging and watching, you won't know.
I am assuming you are not doing PPC of any kind, etc?
Have you looked at your sources of traffic to see what changed there?
Say on given terms are you getting a lot less traffic or has referral or direct traffic fallen off?Hope it helps.

Drop in Organic Traffic for Homepage and Branded terms but Steady in Rankings and According to WMT.
I am stumped. I have been researching for over two days now. Our homepage organic traffic YoY is down approx. 25%. However, rank has not changed according to Conductor, Bing and Google WMT. Impressions have gone up according to both search engines and we rank now for more keywords in top 3 than we did last year. Both WMTs' present a pretty healthy picture. No insignificant indexing issues, Error URLs & blocked resources are down, daily page crawls are higher than ever, etc. I drilled into Google Analytics from a few different view points. The closest I got to an answer was I saw huge out-liars YoY in browsers and browser versions. We saw significant differences in organic traffic YoY from IE 11, 9 ,10, 8 and 7. Android Browser 31, 32 and Safari 6 and 7. I tested our homepage and search results in all of these, and found no issues. Yet, GA reports 50K+ differences YoY. My only thought is it is perhaps a GA attribution error? And/or browsers defaulting organic traffic to direct or other? Yet, our direct traffic is up but does not correlate with as much as we are down. Any tips on where to look next would be extremely helpful!

A web audit for web traffic? Need answers please..
Hi, We are a PR agency based in Dubai and we produce a lot of web content. The website is build on ruby on rails and we have implemented keywords and SEO strategies but sadly the traffic pattern has not changed since the past three years. What surprised us today that we created a page 2-3 days ago for a client who is participating in Arab Health (a very prestigious healthcare event) and suddenly our page comes on top 3 on google.ae as well as google.com We are kind of convinced that there is something wrong with our code.. Do you think this could be a possibility? and the lack of change in the traffic pattern might not be an SEO issue but a code issue? What could be the possible reasons for this pattern? In such a scenario what would experts like you recommend we do? Do a SEO Audit? Web audit? code audit? hire a seo/ web / code consultant? Thanks - helpful answers are really appreciated and just btw if anyone feels they could professionally help us out of this mess, we are willing to work with him/her. Thanks in advance

Drop in Organic Traffic
Hi all, last Thursday (1/31) our organic traffic and conversions fell off the map, going from 15% of our traffic to just over 5%. We've started creeping back up, we were nearly 7% yesterday, but I'm wondering if anyone else experienced an extreme drop in traffic or any advice on what we should be doing next. We are currently building links from University and government organizations and are always creating fresh content on our blog and website pages. One thing that we thought of is this timeline corresponds with when we created a Google + local listing for our company. Is there any possibility we stopped appearing in as many national search results since we have a local listing? Our domain is www.dishcostsless.com. Any advice would be very helpful. Thank!

Will increased pagerank increase traffic from google?
I got notified that my domain went from a google pagerank of 3 to 4. When this happens, does google raise me in the searches which can then hopefully get me more traffic, or is it a worthless number. Maybe only google knows 🙂

Search appearances drop, search traffic increases ... how to interpret?
I've just been comparing search appearances in Google Webmaster Tools with organic search traffic from Google and found that the two do not correspond at all. Why would this be? GWT says my appearances in search crash-dived around the second week of September (does this correspond with a Google algorithm update?), but my organic search data in Google Analytics for the same time period shows that search visits actually increased. Anyone else seeing anomalies like this? 525f2de7c58cc2-09483641 525f2e345acdf1-83344837

Effectiveness of a Guest Blog if it is not getting you any traffic
Hi, I have been paying adequate attention to Guest Blogging for the past 4-5 months. I have posted good quality articles on some decently ranked websites. Of late I managed to get a guest post on a website with a page rank of 4. But I didn't get any referral traffic from it. My concern was will the Guest Blog also contribute to my Organic Search ? Will google give me any points if my links on the Guest Blog are not generating any traffic ? I was under the impression that Guest Blogs will work in your favour and will help in improving your search traffic only if you have visitors from that particular page. Any comments on this ? Eric
