SEO Submission Service or Ads on Blogs?

1. Can anyone recommend a good SEO Submission Service? Or do you not recommend using them?
2. What do you think is a better way to build links? Directory listings or place ads on blog sites? Each post a blogger post would have the ad link.

First of all I do not recommend anything that is automated SEO. I just don't believe in that. (I know there are people who will disagree with me
)Secondary, link building... Now this is tricky. Because it all depends on what niche are you in, what kind of websites do you work with. Once again I will pull out an idea which probably is not supported by to many, but I don't like directory listings. There are some, which can give you a real boost, but from visitors point of view, I still love to target blogs. I just love how you can target niche-targeted visitors to your website through some content link from a blog entry or a banner. Building links while participating in communities is, from my point of view, a winning situation. You will not just earn the visit, you will earn trust.
BTW: placing ads on blogs can help you, but... I would suggest guest blogging. It is way cheaper than buying an ad on a blog(on monthly basis) and it contributes to the specific blog with good content (and a good link,

Question about links on blogs
I have a number of blogs, but I'll use this one as an example: http://www.totalpackers.com/. If you look in the left column, we have "friends" links and "more Packers" links. In every case, these were links that we traded or links to our own sites. We get traffic from a number of these sites because of the link exchange, but I'm worried having these is hurting our SEO (as well these sites posting our links). It's crossed my mind that I should remove all these links from our site and ask that our links be removed from their sites. Would that be overreacting? Or is this something I should do? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks, Monty

Blog articles on website vs submitting to article submission sites
I had some articles created for a client. The site is on WordPress. I'm wondering if it is best to add the articles to the blog page of the website or if it is better to submit the articles to ezine articles. Or can I submit the same article to both places? Is there a strategy that should be followed generally speaking when creating content for the blog vs article submission sites? The goal is to increase the ranking for target keywords. I realize that the answers could take a lot of different directions. But generally speaking I would like to know, If I have an article where is the best place to add it to achieve better rankings for target keywords? Thanks for the help.

Local SEO Help
Getting confused about what is helpful. I have a few questions. Is it beneficial to link to other sites like wikipedia from our main url or our wp hosted blog? Does that help our SERP? We have just built a new sitemap for our site, which is good, we didn't have one before.
