Google Ranking Dropped
-
Hi
We launched a new website on the12th Feb 2012, it appeared on google page one for the search term "compare travel insurance" . Last week it changed ranking to page 49 of google ranking.
my site is www.1234compare1234travel1234insurance1234ireland1234.com
Take out the 1234 for my site address, some people have mentioned that it was honeymooned to page 1 due to being a new site with new content.
- Can anyone tell me if it looks as if I've done something wrong and been penalised by google?
- If not are there any SEO advice I could use to improve ranking?
All comments and advice appreciated.
Regards
Paul

Site looks nice, Paul. If you haven't done this already, use the SeoMoz tool to check your onpage setup: http://pro.seomoz.org/tools/on-page-keyword-optimization/new Fix anything that needs work and then start promoting your site. You can set up tracking here: http://www.seomoz.org/rank-tracker You will be emailed regular updates, that show if you are making progress. As it is a real site, issue a press release every week, about something interesting you are doing or that is of interest to people buying travel insurance in Ireland. Change which pr site you use, so they aren't all from the same one. Write other articles and get them published in other places - offer them to your local news sites.

I have read lots of threads and guides about building quality links - but if you have little or no budget - for example to create widgets, viral games etc- how do you build quality links - what in plain english is a natual link building strategy?
By seeding Press Releases around the web? If so how do you seed them?
Ask related travel sites for a link?
Conversing in related forums?
Write top 10' tips on reducing travel insurance and hope it gets picked up on digg etc?
Or am I off the mark? If so what would be the steps that would be needed to be taken?
-
The travel niche is a very competitive one, I would expect to work very hard, provide intelligently written high quality content (not keyword stuffed crap that people will just click away from), and work on a "natural" back linking strategy.... meaning, the less you try to "game" the system, the better your chances will be to have longevity.
New sites often see jumps up and down in rankings until Google figures out where you really belong.

Yep new sites can do that, especially with exact match domains (EMDs), had exactly the same myself this week with one of my hosting affiliate sites.
Don't worry about it, just get your head down and build some quality links

Dear Paul,
SEO is a crasy world, and when your website droped down, you can have one million options to really explain what happened.
In my opinion, there is not wrong with your site adress, I think the problem should be in other places. I made a fast analyses, and there is some important points:
First, in opensiteexplorer you see that you have a new website, without Pagerank. So you will need to wait a little bit until google read your site and understand it.
Second, I don't find any backlinks yet. This is one of the most important poins in SEO.
There are also minor corrections:
Page Title - its to long (max is 66) and the "compare travel insurance" should be the first words of the title.
Page description - watch ou for keyword stuffing.Your page has a lot of content, and this is very important.
My opinion - wait a little bit that your website will rocket. Use the opensiteexplorer.com to follow how is your website evolution go. And good luck, because the life in SEO is not easy.

Ranking more than one page.
Our travel website has a number of different places listed. The layout of each place is the same as the next. On place ranks on page 1 for its keywords where as others do not. Is there a tool of some description that may identify why this is.

Does RSS Feed help to rank better in Google?
Hello, I heard RSS Feed helps in ranking. However, I am not sure if I should enable RSS Feed or not. Whenever I publish an article on my site , I see that many other websites have leeched my Feed and get's the same article I written published with a nofollow backlink to my website article. The worst part is that my article doesn't appear in Google search, but the website which copied my article gets ranked in Google. Although the article gets index on google (checked by using site:website.com). Although some articles show up after 24 hours by ranking higher from the sites which copied my article. Any idea what should I do? Thank you

Strange google indexing behaviour
Hi all Looking for a second opinion on a strange issue with has occurred on my site. The site is a magento store and because I am using all the default merchant descriptions at the moment I have noindexed the product pages (there are 300k products, the plan is to rewrite the content as we go, starting with most popular sellers). The Gbot is blocked from the pages and all the products have header tag. We forgot to noindex the popular search terms page on the site and as a result google has indexed some search result pages - we may keep this open, not sure yet, We are seeing a very strange thing in the serps. Google has indexed the search result pages, as mentioned above, however, the description and title tag being used do not belong to that page, they belong to the product page the search result links to. If i do a search in google for the indexed pages i get the categories and lots of, what appears to be, product pages. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site:arropa.co.uk/store&espv=2&biw=1536&bih=772&ei=LE5xVd3qA4HlUNnggKgH&start=250&sa=N One would assume that a page listed with the title of Ladies 1 Pair Young Trasparenze Mumbai Animal Print . and the description of Come on, program a little of your crazy side! Part of the edgy, sassy Young Trasparenze Medley, these soft touch, nontransparent stockings function a crazy, (along with the price) would be an entry for that individual product. However, clicking on that product opens up a search results page (very slowly as the site is processing an update still - it is not for public use thus far) which can be seen here http://arropa.co.uk/store/catalogsearch/result/?q=+ladies+1+pair+young+trasparenze+mumbai+animal+print+tights+75+off+military+l+ yes, the search result page is for that particular item but nowhere on the page is the title, description and price, nor has it ever been. Am a little puzzled about this and what it would do re duplicate content as im using the manufacturer data at present. Ideally i would like to keep the search results pages open. Any thoughts would be most welcome. Couple of things to note. Im aware the site is too slow for general public use. It will be fully cached once running, as i say, it has 300k+ products so isn't small. Also, am aware that there are no images. They exist but we are moving the images around, hence being down. Always a fun task when there are 25gb of the things!! Many thanks Carl

Why will a Page not rank or improve on a website?
My website is performing well, but I have a couple of popular Brand pages that no matter what I do will not rank organically, they are being indexed, but will just not perform or improve. The rest of the pages throughout the website all seem to be fine, can anyone advise if they have experienced a similar problem or advise why this would happen or even suggest what I should do to fix the problem, we have even gone as far to create a new page and delete the old one, and it still hasn't worked. I have used various tools to test the page and variations of search terms and although it is appearing in Google it is not ranked, although it is ranking and visible in Yahoo and Bing. Any help and advise would be appreciated. Jacqui

Indexed pages in Google webmaster tools
Hi Mozzers, Very quick question. Google WM tools interface has updated and I want to confirm I'm looking at the correct figure. If I look up 'Your site on the web' / 'search queries' / then the 'pages' - this is correct indexation figure yes? This differs from the 'site:' command but that's always the case. Can anyone confirm, Thanks
