New to the SEO game

Hello everyone!
I am fairly new to this SEO game and it all seems a little overwelming. Let me tell you a little about my experience. I have been trying for a couple years to get the ranking up on my LawnAide site and it seems at times that I keep spinning my wheels. Ive been doing blogs getting links with high ranking sites and all the other stuff. But on the local search there are still smaller companies which lower ranking sites performing better that mine. This gets very frustrating. Is there any advise out there?

One of the places I find very useful is the pro webinar. I like to watch them after they have been finished, this way I can follow what they are doing and pause or rewind the video. This allows me to try it out for myself using websites and search terms I know.
By doing this you get to pick-up on some of the experience of the presenters, that they have built up of years of doing SEO. You also get to find out about tools and techniques, which ordinarily you wouldn’t have thought of.
Even when the webinar is not directly about a subject you’re interested, they are worth watching.

Welcome to the club my friend! I'm in the same boat as you and I decide to get the SEO process by myself.
The difficulty is that everything is gray, with severals "ifs" that change with the time. So, for beginning read the SEOMOZ Beginner SEO Guide. Second, buy several books - difference points of view will help you with your's webpages specifics issues. Read the blogs form SEO MOZ - to be always with the more update information.
This is the easy part of the job, the difficulty one is to put this in practice and understand for your business what is better. I'm almost two years studying and until now I didn't reach #1. Its a hard SEO world

Have you created and optimized a Google Places listing? Do you have the Address micro-formatted on every page of the site? Is the company info the same all across the web (directories, local listings, websites etc...)? Are you utilizing location identifiers in your focus terms (in the Titles, Headers etc…)?
We just need some more info before we can offer much advice - I am sure you have probably done most or all of this, but it is best to start at the beginning, you know?

What all other SEO tool (along with Moz) are you using at your company / SEO Agency / Marketing Agency?
Hello Folks. Let me put it this way. Moz is great. especially, this community of like minded people. But, when it comes to Moz tool's features- it has its own Pros and Cons. And, that's what force us to add other tools to our tool kit. So, just wanted to know what all other SEO tools you use and why??? Let me start this by answering this question: I use SERPed.net as my other SEO tools suite. And the reasons are: It offers 40+ SEO tools ( Few are similar to the ones that I get with Moz, but the other ones that I don't get in Moz are real good. For ex: **Site Auditor Pro, Mobile **Prospector) Along with showing data for their metrics and algos, they pull data from- SEMrush and Majestic SEO. So, I don't need to have subscription of these 2 tools and still I get the data from them. A big money saver 🙂 Let's start this interesting thread 🙂

What are the best free/low cost tools you use for SEO?
Hello! I will be giving a talk next month about free/low cost SEO tools and apps and I would like to hear what your favorite/most useful tools are. I know this question has been discussed here before, but this is a topic that is constantly evolving and I am interested in knowing what people currently find to be the best. Identify business pain points using SEO
Hi, can I use SEO research techniques to identify what kind of services businesses are searching for? Is it possible to find out pain points? I have been using tool like MicroNicheFinder to do such a research but I am not getting any where. Is SEO only used to outrank my competition? Do I need to first know what business I need to be in and then use SEO techniques to research the demand? Do I make sense? You can tell that I am very new at the internet marketing thing. Please let me know. Thanks.

SEO Moz Bug? Universal Placements
Had a quick look around and can't find anything relating to this. We are doing really well with our universal placements, google places etc. SEOMoz used to recognise them, but now I have no universal placements according to SEOMoz, though they are clearly all still doing well. But in the program, or problem with the data? Thanks Marc

SEO Yoast data export
Just thought I would give something back. (Is this the right place!) I use Wordpress with the excellent SEO Yoast plugin. I needed a way of extracting the focus keywords that I have entered onto my pages along with the url for use on the SEOmoz On-page Optimisation tool. So I created GetYoastData which outputs to the browser the required data (and a bit more) that can be saved into an csv (Excel) file. Why cant I hook up facebook to SEO Moz Campaign Tool?
Greetings from the digital epicentre otherwise known as Wetherby Uk 😉 I want to track sentiments ie mentions, slurs fliratations of a brand on Facebook. So to start out with I thought 'Id hook up SEO moz social tracking service as illustrated here: http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/cant-add-facebook-url.jpg But whilst i could add my twitter account I caount not add my favebook page:http://www.facebook.com/david.honan.98I added david.honan.98 in the url box and a number of other versions but none successfully hooked up. Open Site Explorer - SEO - Company Back Links not visible?
Hi Guys, I am relatively new to the SEO community and have what is hopefully a pretty quick and simple question? I have recently outsourced some of my SEO campaigns to an Australian SEO group which were referred to me buy a friend, and i do not have the time to manage all sites SEO. On pitch the SEO company said they had in excess of 7000 domains, and they would implement a massive back linking strategy for me anywhere upwards of 200 links a month and all legit. Initially there were some basic header and title tag changes needed on the site, and I am now in month 4 of my campaign. Looking forward to using SEOMOZ service and specifically Open Site Explorer, I entered my URL but to my disappointment I could only see 4 links and two I was responsible for. I spoke to the SEO company who responded Open Site Explorer wasn't a good indication of back links and that a lot of their sites were not on the network because of the structure of their linking being only one way. I would appreciate a second opinion (external of this company) on this because of my short time learning and dabbling with SEO. On a side note thoroughly enjoying learning SEO and my journey as part of the SEOMOZ community. Appreciate any feedback or responses I get. Kind regards Bodie http://www.berkeleyriver.com.au
