Google inconsistent in display of meta content vs page content?
-
Our e-comm site includes more than 250 brand pages - lrg image, some fluffy text, maybe a video, links to categories for that brand, etc. In many cases, Google publishes our page title and description in their search results. However, in some cases, Google instead publishes our H1 and the aforementioned fluffy page content.
We want our page content to read well, be descriptive of the brand and appropriate for the audience. We want our meta titles and descriptions brief and likely to attract CTR from qualified shoppers. I'm finding this difficult to manage when Google pulls from two different areas inconsistently.
So my question... Is there a way to ensure Google only utilizes our title/desc for our listings?

If you figure out a way to do this, you'd be rich! They don't seem to care who they touch, whether it's Apple or SEOmoz of the little site. When I search Google for [negative keywords seomoz] I get back the post that I wrote about negative keywords, and Google has rewritten the title to be "negative-keywords-for-positive-roi - SEOmoz". negative-keywords-for-positive-roi is the URL/post slug! If you use different phrases to search, you'll find the correct post title. Quite frustrating!

I agree on this: "Many people aren't in DMOZ, and Google will still alter their meta titles and descriptions to match the search query"
That was my situation.

Many people aren't in DMOZ, and Google will still alter their meta titles and descriptions to match the search query. Google employees have said that one of the reasons the titles are changed in the SERPs is if they look spammy (not saying that yours are, just stating what they have said).

We have also experienced this, but after we started using the NOODP-meta tag the problem disappeared. 2 weeks after adding the content="noodp" name="robots" /> to all pages on our site SERP was updated.
Case is, that with inconsistency in you meta tags, Google SERP will show data from dmoz.org (updated:) or using information gathered from your own site, using a H1/H2 as title and ingress text as description.

Make sure your title is not nearly identical to your other titles. It took months for me to get rid of that STUPID problem! I went through the source code, changed the titles, built links to that specific page... then 3 months later it finally worked.

Duplicate content on Places to Stay listings pages
Hello, I've just crawled our website https://www.i-escape.com/ to find we have a duplicate content issue. Every places to stay listing page has identical content (over 1,500 places) due to the fact it's based on user searches or selections. If we hide this pages using canonical tags, will we lose our visibility for each country and/or region we promote hotels? Any help on this would be hugely appreciated! Thanks so much Clair

Google and responsive content in display:none CSS
I’m building a WordPress site with Visual Composer and I’ve hit a point where I need to show a totally different section on a mobile compared to a desktop/tablet. My issue/question comes from the fact that both mobile and desktop rows will have the same content as well as H1/H2/H3 tags. From inspecting the elements I see the mobile only rows are hidden until the page size shrinks through being set to 'display: none' in the CSS (standard visual composer way of handling width & responsiveness) How will Google see this in terms of SEO? I don’t want to come across as if I’m cloaking text and H1 tags on the page (I have emailed the visual composer support but wanted to get an external opinion)

Lots of Pages Dropped Out of Google's Index?
Until yesterday, my website had about 1200 pages indexed in Google. I did lots of changes: removed low quality content, rewrote passable content to make it better, wrote high quality content, got lots of likes and shares on social networks, etc. Now this morning I see that out of 1252 pages submitted, only 691 are indexed. Is that a temporary situation related to the recent updates? Anyone seeing this? What should I interpret about this?

Inconsistent page titles in SERP's
I encountered a strange phenomenon lately and I’d like to hear if you have any idea what’s causing it. For the past couple of weeks I’ve seen some our Google rankings getting unstable. While looking for a cause, I found that for some pages, Google results display another page title than the actual meta title of the page. Examples http://www.atexopleiding.nl Meta title: Atex cursus opleider met ruim 40 jaar ervaring - Atexopleiding.nl Title in SERP: Atexopleiding.nl: Atex cursus opleider met ruim 40 jaar ervaring http://www.reedbusinessopleidingen.nl/opleidingen/veiligheid/veiligheidskunde Meta title: Opleiding Veiligheidskunde, MBO & HBO - Reed Business Opleidingen Title in SERP: Veiligheidskunde - Reed Business Opleidingen http://www.pbna.com/vca-examens/ Meta title: Behaal uw VCA diploma bij de grootste van Nederland - PBNA Title in SERP: VCA Examens – PBNA I’ve looked in the source code, fetched some pages as Googlebot in WMT, but the title shown in the SERP doesn’t even exist in the source code. Now I suspect this might have something to do with the “cookiewall” implemented on our sites. Here’s why: Cookiewall was implemented end of January The problem didn’t exist until recently, though I can’t pinpoint an exact date. Problem exists on both rbo.nl, atexopleiding.nl & pbna.com, the latter running on Silverstripe CMS instead of WP. This rules out CMS specific causes. The image preview in the SERPS of many pages show the cookie alert overlay However, I’m not able to technically prove that the cookiescript causes this and I’d like to rule out other any obvious causes before I "blame it on the cookies" :). What do you think?

Google Penguin - Target Landing Page
Hello, One of our sites have been hit by the first penguin update back in April and ever since then we have been removing links and submitting reconsideration requests... It only seems to have affected our home page as some of our internal landing pages are still ranking OK in the SERPS #1 / #2. I'm just wondering if we created a landing page for this keyword and drove high quality / relevant links to this landing page could we get it to rank higher than our homepage even though our Homepage is on the 5th page.Hope the above make sense. Has anybody had any joy with this?

If ihave a site :domain.com and i have 2 solutions like:
Solution #1: Quote: | domain.com/blog and domain.com/video if i try to do :
Root domain only link to
domain.com/video and
domain.com/blog | Solution #2: Quote: | Root domain only link to
video.domain.com and
blog.domain.com | So <acronym title="Google PageRank">Pr</acronym> domain.com/blog = <acronym title="Google PageRank">Pr</acronym> blog.domain.com ?
and <acronym title="Google PageRank">PR</acronym> domain.com/video = <acronym title="Google PageRank">Pr</acronym> video.domain.com ? And don't know why a subdomain of blogspot or Wordpress ranking easier than a new domain like:keyword.wordpress.com and keyword.com So What Wordpress pass to keyword.wordpress.com ?0
