Are there any SEO Tips before killing a website?
-
Hey guys,
My company acquired another company, and after a couple of months we decided to completely kill their website. I'm not finding any info about SEO best practices for this type of situation. From the "switching domains" and "new sites" articles and blog posts I can extrapolate that I should:
- 301 redirect their home page to ours
- Look at specific pages with good authority that relate to our pages and 301 them.
- Look at the strongest backlinks to their site and try to change them to point to our site.
- Create a 404 page for the rest of their webpages that tells them that we acquired the company (hopefully with a main menu and search bar)
Any other suggestions?

I don't think that there is a simple answer to this.
I would study the content, current traffic, conversions and links into this site. Then decide how all of those individual pieces can best become assets to your primary site.
It is possible that your ROI will be higher allowing both sites to survive. Or possible that the newly acquired site is of very little value or even risky.

SEO page descriptions on mobile - how to hide while preserving the juice for SEO?
Hi everybody, On our pages we have crafted good text paragraphs for SEO purposes. On desktop everything is fine but on mobile the paragraph of text pushes the main content really low on the page. Is there a way of hiding the text while preserving the SEO juices and not getting penalised by Google for spamming techniques? I'd appreciate any recommendations on how to deal with this. Thanks very much!

We killed our SEO, but how come some of our keywords are still in the top 1-3
I am looking for the answer for this interesting question: 1. I have a static page with NO information on it, this is almost completelyblank, only a search box on it, which does nothing! The information it contains is absolutely zero, but the page has got a specific URL which is = the keyword i will look for 2. And i have another page which is fully optimized with the help of on page grader (97%) for anoter specific keyword Q, in case of 1: Searching in google for a keyword which is = the page www.domain.hu/keyword, and i will have top 1-3 serp!???? (i say it again, the page contains no information...and the keyword is really frequent, in google adwords it says that this keyword which has got high competition) in case of 2. i have the /url which is completely the same as the keyword, have 97% on page grade, and i see that week by week i can only move upwards a little in the serp. Created unique content a lot, made several changes on this page and like no position changing. So the question is WHY in case 1 i can be with no information in (empty static page) top 1-3 for a really hard keyword, and why i cannot move upward on the list for a not so frequent keyword however i did everything i could??

Are pop-unders bad for SEO?
Hi all, I run a travel site that specializes in hotel bookings. We're working with a third-party advertiser to launch a pop-under unit when someone searches for hotels on our site. (This unit is of the "also try your search on these competing sites" variety.) I'm worried, however, that this might affect our SEO, especially in light of this on their site: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/2721313?hl=en Would Google even see these pop-unders? (Are pop-unders treated the same as pop-overs?) And, if so, would G see them as unwanted and treat them as a nuisance? Could it lead to negative SEO consequences? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks! Tom
