Which Link Strategy is Better: .edus or Blogs?
-
Suppose you only have enough resources to execute a strategy that will earn links from 100 .edu sites or a strategy will earn 100 blogs on your industry. Which would you choose?
-
Quality edu links may be harder to get. But there are a ton of blogs on .edu sites with unmonitored comments. I don't think http://ask.buffalostate.edu/index.php?showuser=13006 will hold much weight in the engines, yet it's on an .edu domain.
-
I would say .edus. They are much harder to get.
-
The politically correct response is that your strategy should be around relevancy, traffic potential and with a brand-focus rather than a keyword focus. Matt Cutts has shoved this at us many times, stating that Google treats .edu links the same as any other domain (though you and I know they carry more authority):

That being said, I think the power of your campaign is going to come from the quality of it. Many of my clients have created a 2012 College Appreciation or University Recognition or other program that involves outreach, product use/attrition, and heavy content. Done well, not only will a site create 100 or more links from colleges and universities, but the brand exposure through that outreach program will resonate within the walls of those schools for years to come - because they were the important part of the campaign, not the link.
Go for the edu campaign if you have the financial resources to do so, otherwise, a simple outreach program to bloggers to build your brand, get product reviews and reach blogger subscribers can still be an excellent way to drive traffic and sticky links.
Stay away from blog ads and blog link buying. These networks are being identified and flagged daily. Stick to blogs that do not have a link list in the sidebar or footer, and focus on those in your niche with a reasonable subscriber base. Good luck!

Yes, like everyone else says. Go for a diversity of edu and blog sites. The more diverse your link portfolio is the more authority you seem to have. Also if you are doing this through a service, be careful how they get these links and make sure they are FOLLOW links.
-
Go for quality & diversity Consider what sort of links will last the test of time & also create kick-ass content that will attract natural links
-
Keri Raises a good point - I was under the assumption you would be going out and building these yourself , But like keri said if a service is doing this for you be careful how they are doing it and make sure it is quality and not a network or something that leaves a footprint.
-
The one that doesn't promise me an exact number of links on a particular type of blog. I want the strategy that doesn't involve someone having easy control over all 100 links.
-
It all depends on the strength of the sites not if its a blog or edu -If you can get on 100 blogs in your industry that people actually read not just seo sites and they have strong DA You should go with the real marketing (blogs in this case).

When pitching a whitepaper as Push Content for Link Building, is it ok to give the person I'm pitching a link to a landing page with a form on it?
When pitching a whitepaper as Push Content for Link Building (i.e. pushing out content that my client has created), is it ok to give the person I'm pitching a link to a landing page with a form on it? Or should I create a landing page with the whitepaper included on it? I’m not sure if the client will be ok with this b/c I know they use the whitepaper for sales purposes to gain leads. For example, my pitch email would include a line such as this, "the whitepaper can be found at LINK and I'd love if you could share it with your readers." I think it may be weird/a little wrong to ask a webmaster to include a link on his site to a landing page with a form to get the whitepaper. Does this make sense? What have others done with whitepapers as Push Content for link building?

Sitewide links from blogs we sponsor - A Bad Thing?
We sponsor a few blogs in our niche. As part of the sponsorship, they include an advert on the RHS or LHS of the blog page. Links are dofollow and are sitewide. Should I be concerned? Should I be asking for a nofollow instead, if possible? I've recently disavowed links and am waiting to see what happens with this - hopefully there's a Penguin update soon - but I wondered if the blog links were part of the problem.

How to beat This with Links?
Hello, So i am trying to beat this website gujratdetectives.com/ with a new website which has no backlinks as of now.
Link Building | | hardik_hrc
Now, I checked in open explorer that this site has many moderate level links. No high authority links but the problem is these links they all have title as the search keyword "detective in Gujarat" so maybe this is why this site rests on the top of this search keyword. So if building authority links into a different domain(Not detective related) with very high PR but WITHOUT title of relevancy. Anchor text would be the keyword but not the title of page. So the question is will those authority sites beat this gujratdetectives.com/ ???0 -
Blog Directories
Will links from blog directories to our subfolder-located blog within our website help the ranking of our overall site? In other words, will it just help the rankings of the main blog page (where the directory links are pointing to), or will it pass the link juice to the rest of the site? Thanks!

How to improve (ASAP) the linking root domain, the followed linking root domains and the linking C-Blocks? Linkbuilding (or whatever) techniques.
I have a small site (.com) like any website in my sector. 30-90 pages. I have no crawls errors. Everythings is fine, just I need to improve my linking root domain, the followed linking root domain and the linking C-Blocks. Example: my competitors have 300 (one of them have 1300) of total links. I have 30. Anyone know some good strategies? techniques? tips? I just dont want to be in a farm directory, I want free links. I'm already running two strategies but it works so slowly. I want something faster at this moment. Also, any recommendation will be thankful.

Many competitor's backlinks are in content anchor links. Ho do I get these same links?
Hi I managed to open up OSE. I'm finding that much of the competition's backlinks are in content anchor text links. Am I supposed to get backlinks from these same pages using the same anchor text but linking back to my page or is that allowed? If so, how do I get these in content blog post links? Thanks. Sunil.

New ways to get links (excluding on site link bait)?
Fellow SEOs, I’m looking for a new way to reach out to bloggers and site owners for links. There are quite a few link bait techniques to lure bloggers thanks to = amazing content, infographics,...but there are not so many articles on ways to contact bloggers/webmasters and ask for links... We all know that contacting site owners directly and politely asking then to place a link on their home page is as useful as a comb in Bruce willis’s hand. Link exchange is as dead as the Dodo and business partner links are usefull and easier to get but opportunities are often limited. I have been organizing contests for bloggers recently and it has been quite successful up to now, but I always like to have a spare trick up my sleeve. So if any of you have a decent method to reach out to bloggers/webmaster and get decent links please let me know, I will be forever thankful ; ) Cheers
