Can the template increase the loading time of the site?
-
Hi,
My site was built with WordPress. Very recently I had it redesigned. The problem is that now it takes a long time to download. I have spoken with a web designer who checked my site and said that after it was rebuilt, the template that was created included a lot of hard coding. Can this be the reason why my site now takes a long time to load? The hard coding factor?
Thank you for your help.
- Sal
P.S.: FYI the site only has a few plug-ins and the server is a good one.

Hi,
I think that is exactly what happened: a bunch of new Javascript and css files.
Thank you.

I saw a site that was redesigned and then became incredibly slow. Their issue was that there were a number of widgets that loaded a bunch of different Javascript and css files. There was also an issue where the site wouldn't load until all the images (and there were many dozen) on the page loaded. I use Chrome's developer tools to see all the elements that are loaded on the page. It's very useful in determining what's taking the most time to load.

Hi,
Thank you for the response. I've hired a new web designer with expertise in WordPress who will take care of the factors you have mentioned.
All best.

Thank you for informing me about WpEngine. That must be the right solution for making WordPress sites faster and more reliable.
All best.

Google Page Speed provides very helpfull information on what factors are import for your site. It determines what is slowing your pages down, and what you can do to fix it. It also distinguishes between various degrees of importance. You can check out the speed test at: https://developers.google.com/pagespeed/.
Good luck!

Depends on db requests per page and all sorts of stuff.
Anyway SEOMOZ recommend these guys and wordpress backs them as well - http://wpengine.com/
Check it out

Your redesign guy could have used enormous-size images in the design. He could have added code that takes time to execute. There could be calls from other websites for ads or widgets or images that are slow.

There are lots of factors which can affect the loading time of a web page, without a URL I cannot give you an indication of where the performance issue is likely to be.
With a url I can tell you which areas the issues are caused by i.e. creation of page at server, poor css, e.t.a.
It is very unlikely (but I can't rule out completely) that hard coding will cause performance issues. Hard code does cause problems when making changes or updates to a site.

Can I markup additional information about a person that is not visible on my site?
Hello, I want to mark up my site and I don't know if I can markup up 'CEO' for a person if it doesn't say 'CEO' on my site. In general, does everything that I markup have to be visible on my site? Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. Leebi

What recommendations do you have for the SEO of this site?
Hello, Could you glance at this site and let me know if you see anything we could improve upon? www.nlpca.com A couple of notes: We're over-optimized for the term "NLP" on the home page. We're removing the footer links soon. We have 2 locations: San Francisco, CA and Salt Lake City, UT. Our main keyword is "NLP Training" but we would like to rank higher for the keyword "NLP". Also note that we're completely white hat, but we have international site-wide backlinks, and a couple of site-wide backlinks in site's footers - all friends and colleagues of ours.

Can someone help me with RegEx?
Hey! I am having a tough time figuring this out, and I have already signed up for my RegEx course. So in the mean time, could you please help me? I have two old URLs: /faq /faq.php The new one is /faqs How can I write a 301 redirect to include faq & faq.php in the same line? I basically want to capture /faq and anything beyond the q including the .php. I thought this would work: Redirect 301 /faq. http://www.blah.com/faqs Using the period to catch everything after the q and redirect it to the /faqs page. Extra credit: And why Redirect 301 vs. RedirectMatch 301? It is an Apache server and mod_ rewrite is on. Thanks in advance!

Interesting site migration question.
Hi all. I'm looking for some thoughts on a migrations option we have. At the moment we have two E-Com sites ranking well for some of the same terms. An older site, and a nice new site. The older site is ranking very well for category and product terms, the new one is slowly coming up. Ideally we would like to have one site, the nice new one, and get rid of the old one. If I 301 the old site url's to the new sites will that bring the new site url's into the same position as the old ones? I'm just not sure how this effects sites that are already ranking well. Any ideas are welcomed but I'm really looking for a definitive answer. It's a big decision after all.

Duplicate content on ecommerce sites
I just want to confirm something about duplicate content. On an eCommerce site, if the meta-titles, meta-descriptions and product descriptions are all unique, yet a big chunk at the bottom (featuring "why buy with us" etc) is copied across all product pages, would each page be penalised, or not indexed, for duplicate content? Does the whole page need to be a duplicate to be worried about this, or would this large chunk of text, bigger than the product description, have an effect on the page. If this would be a problem, what are some ways around it? Because the content is quite powerful, and is relavent to all products... Cheers,

Can Anyone show me a site that has followed the seomoz seo rules
Hi i have been reading the seo information on here which is very interesting and i would like to know if anyone can point to any sites that have followed the rules and advice. It is great when you can read the info and rules but i feel it is also better to see a site that has followed the rules and to hear from people who have followed the information and put them into practice and explain what results they have got. I am currently building the following website http://www.womenlifestylemagazine.com so it would be great to see a site that has followed all the rules and who can explain if they work or not.

How 'Off Topic' can I go - site wide?
Hello, I am currently number 1 for a competitive keyword - so don't want to push the wrong button and self destruct! My site is highly focused on one relatively narrow niche with about 50-60 pages of content bang on topic. I was wondering if Google will discredit my site in any way if I start adding pages that are** 'loosely related' **to the overall theme of my niche. Some of them are what you might call sister concepts with maybe one mention of my target keyword in the body..... Does the algo value what percentage of the whole site's content is on/ off topic? If so how important is this as a factor? Thanks a lot
