Multiple links from Dmoz/Google directories worldwide
-
I came across www.soundandvision.com and did a Link Analysis on them....
http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/www.soundandvision.com/a!links
I noticed that the top links they have are from Google directories or Google IP's.
How has this happened? I am listed in Dmoz in the UK does this mean I have automatically appeared around the world. Dmoz is pretty strict about rejecting links how can a company be listed so much? Is this a good practise?
Cheers

They still seem to rank crazy high due to this though.

This may be more of a moot point now, as Google Directory has been discontinued. There's a post at http://searchengineland.com/final-nail-in-the-google-directory-coffin-86505 about this.
-
While this is a rather old question, I am wondering the same thing. One of our keywords has a website ( http://www.terakeet.com )ranking that is completely unrelated and has no optimization for that keyword it seems, but has literally hundreds of links from Google directories in all kinds of countries which all link to DMOZ when you try to submit a site. Does submitting to DMOZ list you in every one of Googles directories?
-
I can yes....
Someone suggest maybe doing some web 2.0 links for dmoz pages to increase rank but surely to do this for every tld is not realistic....
Any other ideas?
-
Ignore my previous comments, I just had a deeper link into the opensiteexplorer backlinks.
Can you find your site in DMOZ? If you replace the tld with other country codes is it still listed? It could just be that the directory you've submitted to is a much smaller niche than your competitors and therefor the DMOZ pages don't hold as much authority as the others.

I am a merchant and have a google base account already so not sure if this is it.... Plus I have found service sites with a product feed with links like this....
Any other ideas?
-
I think this is what you're looking for
-
Stupid question time..... I have google checkout and google base feed... I am assuming this is different... How do you apply for google shopping?
-
This company has applied and been accepted to Google Shopping. Which means Google thinks they're reputable enough to endorse them. This acceptance provides them with alot of authority. The DMOZ listing has nothing to do with the Google Shopping listings.

Can you see if you have a penalty / downgrading for a keyword stuffed title tag ?
We’ve recently seen a gradual drop in organic listings for a site, the site has according to OSE the highest stats when compared to all its competitors. Im beginning to think the site may be being penalised for an unnatural title tag. The title tag for the site is as follows : [Service] [City] - [Company Name] - [Neighborhood] - West [City] An example of the above <title>pattern would be :</p> <p><strong>Garden Design London - Acme Design - Chelsea - West London </strong></p> <p>The other sites that are outranking this site have title tags like :</p> <ul> <li dir="ltr"> <p dir="ltr"><span data-mce-mark="1">#1 (INDUSTRY SITE)</span></p> </li> </ul> <ul> <li dir="ltr"> <p dir="ltr">#2 James Davidson Design, London</p> </li> </ul> <ul> <li dir="ltr"> <p dir="ltr">#3 Jane Smith : Luxury Garden Design | London | Garden Landscaping</p> </li> <li dir="ltr"> <p dir="ltr">#4 Garden Designers London: BWI London Luxury Garden Design …</p> </li> <li dir="ltr"> <p dir="ltr">#5 (NATIONAL NEWSPAPER ARTICLE)</p> </li> <li dir="ltr"> <p dir="ltr">#6 Keers | High End Luxury Garden Designers in London</p> </li> <li dir="ltr"> <p dir="ltr">#7 Garden Design London - Acme Design - Chelsea - West London (The site in question)</p> </li> <li dir="ltr"> <p dir="ltr">#8 Sarah Franklin | Luxury Garden Design | London</p> </li> </ul> <p> </p> <p>Looking down the list they all seem to be using less keyword stuffed <title> tags than our the site sitting in #7. Bearing in mind that the site in #7 out ranks in terms of stats all other sites apart from #1 and #4 (which aren't competitors) in OSE</p> <p>Is it possible to if the site in #7 was given a penalty for the <title> tag ?</p> <p><br />(please note that the <title> tags ive listed above are representative of what the other sites are using, but ive changed the service and city to obfuscate the sites)</p></title>

Continuous drop in Rankings on Google.uk
I have a Website who was ranked top 6 for most competitive keywords on Google.co.uk but suddenly dropped to page 2 after 21st January 2013 and later back to top 10 position and now dropped to pages 2 to 5, for most terms. I initially thought it was the transition rank causing this fluctuations. The strange thing is, i haven't done anything wrong in terms of back linking efforts. My site is content rich and offers real value to users also, the website PR increased from 3 to 4 recently, my site seomoz rank, PA, DA and Moz trust is higher than top ranked websites above mine. Please any suggestions?? Kindly help.....

Link to landing page or home page
Ok, so I've been doing a bit of link research and found that most of our competitors use anchor text to link to their homepage on their site and not a specific landing page. Our current strategy is to link to the correct landing page depending on the anchor to get these to rank, as opposed to getting our homepage to rank for different keywords. If that makes sense. The main reason I can think of to send all links to the homepage is that it would increase the domain authority of the site as a whole. Instead of spreading the links to certain pages depending on the anchor text. It would also give your one page a greater chance to rank for all keywords? Quick example I am a site that sells sports clothes. I have 2 main pages from my homepage: Homepage Football Rugby _Should I link to the football page for all links anchored with "football", and all linked anchored with "rugby" to the rugby page OR should I anchor all links including "rugby" and "football" to the homepage? _ What do you think is the best strategy? Thanks in advance.

How to Safely Scrape Google Results?
I've built a couple of small tools that I use personally, maybe 2 or 3 times per day. Both tools scrape the top 10 results from Google and provide more details about each domain (like the SEOMoz Keyword Difficulty Tool). Google seem to have banned my IP address for automated searches... can anyone tell me a safe way of scraping the google results? Is there a suitable API for this? How do SEO Moz do this on such a huge scale?
