Google Places Verification
-
Sometimes you can verify and claim a Google Places listing via phone, other times they will only send a post card. ANy reason why? Is it lack of trust to verify via phone or old dulpicate listings? Post card is just so unreliable. ANy way to "force" a phone verification?

Andrew, that's a great post by Nyagoslav. I missed that one. He has become my favorite new Local SEO over the past year. What a smart fellow!

Hi Kevin,
Unfortunately, Google does not give you a choice in this matter. If they offer you postcard only, that's your option and there isn't anything you can do to change it. A year or so ago, it was noticed that Google seemed to have increased the number of listings on which they were offering the postcard only option. You can see a post by Mike Blumenthal on this topic here:
http://blumenthals.com/blog/2011/01/24/google-places-tightens-up-verification-for-new-businesses/
The postcard does seem to be associated with Google's method of being most secure that a business is real, and for many new listings, it will be the only option offered, but it is also often the only option offered when making changes to older listings, as well.
I agree with you that there are several downsides to postcard verification, one of which is that it's slower (you have to wait) but the most important of which is that the postcard can easily get lots. Check your mail carefully until it arrives. It can slip in between freebie mailers very easily.
Hope this answer helps!

I found this post online. Do any of these bullets apply to you?
This is one of the most frequent questions we're asked these days. We always begin by explaining in which cases phone verification is impossible:
- if you have already used 3 times the same phone number for verification
- if you are trying to change your listing's phone number
- if you have no direct line, i.e. the call has to pass by answer machine or extension
If your situation is none of these, keep reading.

Google images not showing on SERP
Hi, I recently noticed that after a specific name search, Google images on the 'Web' SERP are no longer showing up. About a month ago, there were atleast 4-5 headshots of this particular person showing up whenever his name was searched. Now no images are showing, just the ten organic links and two links from adwords campaign we have going. The images are still optimized and some are even from editorial sites. Does anyone know what may have caused the images to disappear and what we can do to bring them back to the main SERP? (Not sure if it matters but we are in Canada) Thanks

Google Places Listing
Hi, I have the following issue. I'm doing marketing for a restaurant. There used to be 2 restaurants under the same owner, but they ended up splitting. Now these two locations are completely different owners. The issue is that the google places listing is currently pointing to the same website. How can I change the website address of this listing without having access to the email that was used to create it? Thanks

Getting a Google Places listing verified on an automated phone system.
I've been having issues getting my Google Places/+ listing verified as we have an automatic phone system. If you call our office you have to dial a number to reach an actual human being or before you can leave a message. Whenever the Google Bot calls we aren't able to receive our Google Place verification code. Currently.. there is no option to send a postcard.. which is weird because for awhile that was the only option. Has anyone had any success on an automated phone system & how did you do it? Thanks!

Url in Google Places bulk upload
Hi, I'm preparing a bulk upload for Google Places and have a question about the url of every individual place. The website is structured this was: www.website.com/entrepreneur-X
Image & Video Optimization | | nvs.nim
www.website.com/entrepreneur-Y
... But you can reach every individual entrepreneur like this as well: www.entrepreneur-x.com
www.entrepreneur-y.com
...these URL's redirect to the pages listed above and they use the e-mail address info@entrepreneur-y.com Should I use www.website.com/entrepreneur-X or www.entrepreneur-x.com in the bulk upload? I think it's best using www.website.com/entrepreneur-x because the other url is a redirect. What do you guys think??1 -
Does adding the city to your business name in a Places page help or harm Local SEO?
Hi, All! Another local SEO question... For one of our clients, the title on their Place page is <official business="" name=""><city>. Example: John's Sporting Goods Detroit. Now, most citations will say "John's Sporting Goods." Is having "Detroit" as part of the business name in Places problematic (NAP inconsistency) and we should remove it, or is it helpful for ranking for "sporting goods detroit" or is it neither?</city></official> Thanks! Aviva

Local SEO: What is the largest Google Places bulk upload you have ever done?
Hi All, One of my clients recently requested my team at our agency to do a bulk up load of business locations. We did the bulk upload and it came to around 652 or so locations in the form. I have done some serious bulk uploads in the past around 500 locations but never this high. My question is to SEO moz what is the largest bulk upload or single upload you have done on Google Places?
