How to proceed after accidentally misspelling a domain name
-
Hi guys,
I was looking to create a nice microsite and was using the Keyword Analysis tool to help find some good ideas.
The problem is that I didn't know how to spell the item I was curious about. When I typed in the wrong spelling, it gave a pretty good result, so I went ahead and bought the domain and started thinking about content.
Now I have a domain with a bad name. The correct spelling domain is ranked through the ozone and there's no chance I can compete with those guys.
What do I do? Give up on the domain? I'm thinking to go ahead and continue outlining my site as if the domain had the correct spelling all along. But I confused over whether the home page should rank for the correct or incorrect spelling.
Any help would be great.

Thanks!
That's what I was thinking. The pages should rank just the same as always. But the domain name will probably never rank, even though SEOMoz shows 18K people searching for it under the misspelling every month.
Perhaps other search engines besides Google might pick it up. Never know.

If you're going for an exact match domain but you misspelled the keyword, I don't really see the point of continuing to use it.
Are there people still searching for your misspelling? Does Google autocorrect the misspelling? (chances are it does) These are factors to consider. It also might deter people from visiting your site if the fact that it's a misspelling makes it look like spam.
Of course you can still rank for the keyword your targeting. Exact match domains are no sure bet anyway, plus any domain can theoretically rank for any term.

Is it worth creating a page for misspelled keywords?
I had thought the answer to this was no with the way Google search corrects mispellings. But in Google webmaster tools queries for a page I see the page ranking for a misspelled keyword. And looking at Key Word Finder it tells me the search volume for that keyword is high. But, when I search for the keyword myself it Google it auto corrects the results to the correct spelling. Is it worth creating a page for misspelled keywords?

Duplicate content across domains
I have a client with 2 websites - one is a trucking and rigging company that specializes in installation / moving / removal of safes (site #1), the other offers a product line of safes (site #2). I originally designed / implemented site #1 and was able to get "safe installation New York", "safe moving New York", and "safe removal New York" in the top 3 search results in. A little over a year ago, client was approached by another marketing company to create the site #2, who also provided commercial services that I don't. It was a business decision, and we remained in good relations. As a result Site #1 went to the new marketing company and they built Site #2. Fast forward to about 3 months ago - Site #1 was infected with malware, client wasn't happy with new service, and asked me to take back the Site #1 ( and remove malware), and take Site #2, and re-work the SEO. SEO had dramatically fallen off for Site #1, so I've been working the SEO once I was able to get the malware completely removed and reviewed by Google. Site #1 had been redesigned by the other marketing company, essentially retaining the content that I created. Site #2 has mostly new content, but under "Services", it references the same services that Site #1provides, but the content is exactly the same, except that references to the company for Site #1 also link to Site #1. So there is duplicate content for 5 pages on both sites. As it happens, Site #2 that SELLS safes, is ranking #2 for "safe installation new york" for exactly the same content as Site #1 that provides the services. Site #1 ranks >50 for the same keyphrase. Why would this be? Has Site #2 taken the lead on this keyphrase because of the malware situation and now Site #1 is being penalized for duplicate content? One other major change on Site #1 is that the web technician used Wordpress's built in page nesting (page is set as child to parent page - nested 3 deep in some cases). What are the consequences (if there are any) of having a page listed as (for example) oztruckingandrigging.com/services/safe/safe-installation vs. oztruckingandrigging.com/safe-installation? The reason I ask this is that when I Moz page optimize for the first one for "safe installation" I get a lower grade then when I Moz page optimize for the second one.

Having trouble choosing a domain for my new project
Hello, I'm starting an informational website. The topics that will be covered will be conspiracy theory orgone spiritual awakening kundalini Ancient Knowledge. and related topics The problem is that a lot of people coming in on conspiracy theory topics might not like a domain like trulyawake.com, yet that's what I lean to. I want it to be clever. Eventually there will be products and ads. Looking for a way to tie everything together. Thank you.

New domain name, better to put the activity in the domain ?
Hello, I'm working on a new dance school website. They already have their domain name .ae but the .com is not available. I was wondering in this case how could it would be to work on a domain like name-dance-school.com instead of name.ae In thie case .ae is very good as they just work on the uae. But I think that name-dance-school will definitely help them to rank better. Has anyone ever face this situation ? Best regards.

Excluding my domain from search statistics
I would like to exclude my own domain from seach statisics- so when I search the numbers are not reflected in the various search engines. Do I need to register the domain in each search engine to do that? Thanks!

Thoughts on exact match domains to keywords? If your domain isn't an exact match, do you recommend buying another domain and getting a 301 redirect?

Domain Brokers and crazy prices!
Just emailed a domain broker about an EMD, looked like a nice short domain and thought a little site off this domain would work well. Domain was a .co.uk, gets around 1,600 ems a month but specific to a service so no room to open it up, even still as a little site that would just turn over I was interested. Say average price of service £50. They come back with: Please make an high $X,XXX offer. I reply: I could rank a non-emd (branded) domain using $XXX with guest blogging for the same term. There logic for the price quoted: If you take £25 profit from each sale, you only need to sell 400 to make your money back. This is coming from one of the largest domain brokers in the US. What a silly way of valuing a domain.
