Why is the SEOmoz customer service on this site so awful?
-
Half the time the tools don't work and there isn't any accountability.
Has anyone else had the same experience?
-
It seems like you're the only person to have had such a bad experience with customer care, could it be that your tone on the phone was similar to the one you are having here?
Having said that the rank tracker tool is glitchy but it clearly says above it to simply create a campaign for more accurate results
-
I told each person I spoke with that I understood the position they were in and I did not expect them to have the power to make decisions for the company. I asked both of them if I could speak with their supervisor because I had a few I had a few ideas about how the situation could be easily resolved, They said no. That was the most disappointing part of the process.
-
I didn't know you were just looking for a validation of your experience. I just was addressing the "tools" part of your comments. Glad more experienced folks could help you out.

Hey William! I'm the manager of our customer service team. I'm sorry that you had a poor impression of our team; I think they actually did a darn good job of resolving your issue. It sounded like your account was accidentally set to free for the Rank Tracker feature, which is why you were only getting 5 searches for pages instead of 200. However, the rest of the account was set at PRO. We reset the PRO status over the phone, which worked, so the issue was resolved.
At that point you abruptly ended the call with Chiaryn and called again to speak to Kenny, who talked to you about why the issue occurred in the first place and what our company's plans for the Rank Tracker are (we plan to either integrate or replace it with the Rankings tab in the PRO Web App, as we indicate on the Rank Tracker tool page. We pride ourselves in being transparent about our tools and their status, so when they're not optimal, we'll tell you. Check out our TAGFEE values: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/what-we-believe-why-seomozs-tagfee-tenets). I believe you and Kenny completed the call amicably, but if not, let me know more about what we can do to help.
I hope this helps explain the Rank tracker tool situation. As the page says, we're soliciting feedback on the tool and hope to have a better version soon. Check out the survey at the top of that page: http://ranktracker.seomoz.org/. As I said, please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.

I just confirmed that after the 3rd search, trying to add a new keyword in the Ranker, it does nothing. page shows 3 out of 200 searches were done.
-
I can see your point here. i.e. They should be working with you not against you! If you were not satisfied did you ask to speak to a manager and escalate your complaint?
My 2 cents... Whenever I have contacted SEOMoz (either on the phone or email) they are always helpful and friendly.
-
I just wanted to add that I've had a few minor issues with the site and customer service dealt with them EXTREMELY quickly and to my satisfaction.
-
I was trying to use Rank Tracker. My pro account was being shut off after 5 searches when a pro account is allowed 200. I am using it for a proposal that is due today. I called the number listed on the site and spoke with two people. Both of the customer service people sounded young, were rude, offered no suggestions beyond admitting that it was a problem and passing it along to engineering. It got to the point where I had to offer suggestion after suggestion that they just shot down. I felt like I was working for them.
Both of your customer service people said the product was bad and that it probably wasn't going to be around much longer. That was shocking. Do you think McDonald's would field a complaint about the McRib with an answer that it sucked and it was going to be eliminated from the menu?
I have attended a conference before. The customer service was outstanding, so I know the company is capable. The conference cost 15 times more than a month of my subscription, so I'm going to assume that I am here to be steered toward more premium services which seems like a bait and switch.

Hey William,
Sometimes other members just try to be as helpful as they can.

If you have never tried to contact customer support why are you getting involved with this discussion? Need comment points to rise above 'Aspirant'?

Hi William,
I'd love to hear what specific issues you've been having with the site. We do try to be accountable for any issues that come up. Often times the best way to contact us is to email help[at]seomoz.org if you're having a technical problem with the site.
Thanks!
Jen

I've been a member for awhile, a PRO member for almost a year. I haven't experienced any problems like that, and I have come across issues in the past. I typically email or tweet at them and get a solid response within 24 hours tops.
What specifically are you having problems with?
-
William,
The 6 weeks I have been around, I have found it to be a wealth of information and everything has worked fine for me. I think the site is basically for sharing insights collaboratively with other SEO folks and webmasters. Everything has worked fine for me but I am a novice and may not be utilizing everything properly yet.
I have not tried to contact customer support before but I think most issues are resolved on the question and answer board.

Unsolved Site Crawler not working but on-demand crawler working
Hi, In Moz pro, when using Site crawler (or recrawl), we are seeing message site is banned. But when using on-demand crawler, it could generate report successfully. I just like to know if in both these cases, it is roberbot that is used! And kindly note, site crawler was perfectly working before. So the required setup is already in place from long time. Site crawler ban issue started appearing from nov/dec 2023. . Could you please us understand how could we possibly make site-crawler work?

Complex Rankings Issue For A Law Firm Site
Be warned, this is a complex issue that I have and will require someone who has some advanced knowledge about 301s and link penalty’s. I have a law firm client whose site is having some issues. There are some very complex details here so I'm going to articulate them in bullet points in hopes of making the issues easy to understand. So here's my root problem: We have poor organic rankings (4th, 5th, 6th page for most terms) despite Domain Authority of 32 (avg. 1st page competitor is 28) and some very strong white hat link building the last 60 days or so. How's their backlink profile look, you ask? When you look at their backlink profile in OSE, their spam score is a 1/17 (not sure if that's credible in any way). Lot's of links that score 5's on the spam score make up about 10% of their OSE links. Here’s where it gets tricky; those links are not directed the client's New URL, they are links that go to some old URLs the client used to have, for which they had an SEO guy who built all those crappy links. Those URLs with the crappy links (we'll call them The Crappy URLs) were 301'd (can we all agree 301'd is a verb?) to the NEW URL for just a couple of months. Shortly after that, NEW URL dropped almost completely out of Google, so the client turned off the 301s. So despite those 301s being turned off, OSE still shows all the links going to The Crappy URLs but is giving The New URL credit for them. Keep in mind, the 301s were turned off about 6 months ago so it’s a little strange that OSE still shows those 301s. This has led me to the conclusion that the Domain Authority that OSE shows of 32, is not a “real” number since it is seemingly based off links inherited from 301s that no longer exist. So now I’m trying to create an action plan for this client that will hopefully help us start to make some real progress in our rankings. This client does not have the budget to wait another 6 months for some sign of hope so time is of the essence. Here’s my theoretical action plans I’m choosing from and would like the communities input on which, if any, they feel is best (Also, if I’m missing something or you have an idea, I’m all ears): **Potential Action Plans: ** Do nothing, keep building quality links, creating quality content, monitor crawl reports/gwt for issues. That strategy is going to win long term. #1 + Create one page sites on The Crappy URLs, setup GWT for them, submit sitemaps thus forcing Google, OSE and other web crawlers to index them, thus removing any potential residual penalties from the 301s. NOTE: Currently The Crappy URLS are just landing on GoDaddy’s default landing page which is of course not being indexed by Google or OSE. #2 + Disavow all the bad links going to The Crappy URLS. Then once the bad links no longer appear in the OSE profile for each of The Crappy Sites, 301 them again, thus inheriting the good links but not the bad. #1 + 301 the Crappy URLS back to the New URL, while also disavow any links going to The Crappy URLs. The logic here is that if the road back to recovery is going to be a few months away no matter what, when the 301 knocked them back 6 months ago no reputable link building was being done. I am cautiously optimistic the linkbuilding we are doing will eventually off set any penalty’s coming from the 301s. Plus now we’ll know the 32 Domain Authority OSE is giving us is real. This is the one I’m leaning towards quite frankly because I think it will reduce the recovery time and we’ll know somewhat quickly (30-60 days) if it’s actually working. 1-3 could each take 90 days before we know if it’s working. So please, if you have any expertise with any of this, your help or advice would be appreciated. I’d rather not share The New URL for obvious reasons but if you must know, simply message me and as long as you’re legit, I’ll share it with you.

Seomoz legacy pages?
Hello, I am finding that I miss several of the old seomoz sections. The legacy tools in particular like the visual website comparison. Where is that now? Also, where is the ongoing list of the top 100 sites? So much was lost in the shift to MOZ, I hope some of the good old stuff is still available. Thank you, Nolan

In Open Site Explorer is it possible to use wildcards?
If I have a section on my website called lists with articles in there can I use wildcards in Open Site Explorer to find how many backlinks all articles in that section have - and ideally which pages are most linked to? Something like www.example.com/lists/* to give number of backlinks to all articles in that website section and which are the most highly linked to. Would be a great feature to have! Cheers Siimon

Open Site Explorer missing links
Hi, When the update of Open Site Explorer was released I noticed that the new version was missing a huge amount of links that the old version previously found. This still seems to be the case and it's pretty frustrating as we use the tool for our clients. Is this something that everybody is seeing and if so SEOMoz when do you think you'll have a solution? Many thanks
