Link Building Speed
-
Hello everyone,
This is my first day at SEOMOZ and I have already searched the forum for an answer to my question with no luck.
How do I work out the pace at which I should be building links? Everyone talks about the importance of makling link building seem natural/organic, but how xactly do you go about this?
Many thanks in advance.

You are very much welcome.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I think our target is performance related.
The problem we are facing is that our top competitors have a considerable number of quality links (around 500), but they don't do much link building.
This presents a problem in that we can go out and get the same number of quality links (isn't confidence a wonderful thing), since our company has good standing in the industry, but we don't want to do it suspiciously.
We currently have 8 links and are on page 2 and 3 for our main keywords. Our website is 13 years old.
How fast should we be building those 500 links?

Excellent resources indeed. Thank you.

Some people can build 500+ links a month from seperate class C IPs
Some people build none for months and then land one from Microsoft after engaging in case studies related to indepth business infrastructures. (for example)
To work out the pace - budget, time scale and competition needs to be identified - it really depends on your objectives.
Is it specific KWD performance targets, or holistic performance?
It's quite a huge topic to answer briefly TBH
According to Matt Cutts, Just make a cracking site and then tell people about it everywhere you go
If it cuts the mattstard then those links will come, and then you can socially engineer your content and community to like you even more and attract more

Link Building
I'm having difficulty creating a solid link base. I would prefer to only have links that are on relevant sites that are likely to drive traffic rather then just adding my company page to site directories. I've checked out the whiteboard Friday edition of link building and have also used the new Moz analytics that helps recommend sites to link to, but all the recommendations were directories. So, could anyone hold my hand and guide me through the world of Link building? Your help, as always, is much appreciated. Thanks everyone Dave

Link Building Strategy Advice
Hi, I was wondering what everyone's general strategy is for link building. We're doing it all ourselves manually (i.e. not paying $5 for 100,000 links) and are using the Site Explorer tool to find links to competitors and related websites. The majority of sites are blogs and directories which ask for payment ($50 per month for example). We're obviously looking for free links as well but we're finding that pretty much every site wants something in return (cash or reciprocal link) - unless the content is amazing, why would anyone link to another site without an incentive? We're focussing heavily on content and writing articles, blogs, press releases every week but the subject matter isn't always exciting enough for someone to really want to link to it naturally. Thoughts?

Selling link building - Show me the money !
Week after week we get enquiries for Link building services. Time and time again we are losing out on contracts and deals... My stance - We work on your site for a period of time doing link building so 2 days in the month a link building member will research competitors , yadi , yadi, ya 🙂 You get the picture right... But the customers are being told by less scrupulous companies the numbers of links they will receive. Impossible unless you are buying them right ? So it reaches that point when you start questioning being 100% honest... What advice would you give me on selling link building services...

What link building techniques do you teach to new hires with no SEO experience?
Right now I train my interns and new hires on 5 techniques: 1. Appropriate blog commenting the right way 2. Saving social bookmarks 3. Submitting a website to a directory 4. Publishing articles with links 5. How to build up, maintain and use a Twitter/Facebook/Digg/StumbleUpon profile for SEO Are there some other lower level link building tactics you have tried to teach interns or new hires?
