Should I be optimizing for Keywords that we already rank for?
-
When selecting which Keywords to optimize for, should I choose all words that I want us to move up for? Like that my company appears ranked for 5, 10, 42, 44, etc.?
Or should I select a mix of some that rank well (top 1-2 pgs in Google) /rank near pg 5/ and some that aren't showing up in the top 50 yet?
I don't want to waste my time optimizing for words I don't need to.
Thanks!

Yes it is thank you.

Just so I can understand the question let me try to rephrase it back to you. You want to know how to prioritize your keyword targets. Specifically you want to know how much _less priority _you should give a given keyword that you are already ranking well for.
If I am understanding your question correctly, then I have to say that I don't have enough information to fully answer it. I agree with itrogers in that I think you need to factor in the traffic of each of your keyword targets. And I would add that you should factor in the difficulty of each, too. And consider factoring in the commercial intent (on noes, the tool's down!) of each. And if different keywords reflect an interest in different products or services that represent different profit margins for you, that should be taken into consideration. And ideally if you have enough conversion rate data for each keyword, that should be a factor too! And for that matter, if you can figure out how to group related keywords together such that would lend synergy to your on-page SEO, all the better.
But without a clearly defined metric for finding the efficiency of each keyword or keyword cluster (KEI isn't good enough—this is a step in the right direction, though), and without the values for each factor for your keywords, I still want to say something along the lines of "yeah, you want to target a mixture—some keywords that you are already strong in, since an improvement from position 10 to position 1 represents a ginormous (if anyone knows of a better dataset, let us know!) increase in traffic, but you also want to be working on some longer-term keyword targets that might represent more traffic in the long run, but are more difficult and so require some longer-term planning".
Is that helpful at all?

Cool thank you. Does anyone else have any other opinions?

I think you should keep optimizing for keywords that you already rank for, if you are not #1, your pages can still be better optimized. Keep them in back of you mind, but don't forget about them. With SEO, you don't have to sacrifice a lot of keywords as long as they are all somewhat related. Also, a good measurement to see if you should keep any keywords or variations or not is to check their search volume in Google Keyword Tool. That is what would tell you if you are wasting time on not.

Which page is currently ranking the best for a particular keyword?
Hi Guys! I have approx. 50 keywords that I'm tracking for a website that has about 80 pages. I am wondering is there any way that I can find out which page on the site is currently ranking best for each of the keywords on my list? Ideally I would like to export the entire list with the keyword in the first column and the page that ranks best on the website for each given keyword, in the second column. Apologies if the wording of this post is confusing - I am not quite sure how to make it clearer. The aim of my task is to determine which keywords should be allocated to each page on the site so I need to work out which keywords are working already for certain pages so that I don't take those efforts away from the well-optimised pages. Many thanks! Meaghan

Is the Adwords keywords planner accurate ?
Hey guyz,
Keyword Research | | atakala
As you guyz do, I base all my seo effort into the keywords' traffic and quality which I can get from Adwords Keywords Planner.
But this post has confused my mind .
It' says the average searches doesn't exactly the average searches.
And everything is okay here now I can say that of course it's not %100 accurate.
But the shocking part is he gives an example of how a big gap there is between real searches number and adwords keywords planner tools give us . What do you think guyz?
Can it be true ?
(And also last time I asked a question, Randy has replied me, If possible please Randy do it again :D.)

Price Comparison Website And Keywords
I run a price comparison website for a small niche at http://cdkeyprices.com I am targeting keywords for the specific products I am comparing the price/merchants on. On a typical page I would have a price column, product name, the merchant and a buy button. Buy button is affiliate linked to the merchant. The product name in the product column is the name from the actual website I am tracking. As such, my keyword was appearing sometimes up the 30 times. I've took it down some months ago but was wondering if this was a bad move. I was concerned Google would think I was stuffing the keyword. I've only just gotten into SEO the past few months so was not able to see any changes. Should i put the product column back up or would it be considered over optimization?

Where do I go from here with my keyword research?
Hi all. I'm wondering if I can get some assistance on keyword research. I've set out a step-by-step process for myself about how to go about finding a list of keywords we want to optimise our site for. I've used a guide over at http://www.seonick.net/keyword-research to break it down step-by-step. After using Keyword Tool and Ubersuggest to get a list of keyword suggestions with their local monthly search volumes, I now have an Excel file with 1663 suggestions (yikes!). It is at this point where I am not 100% sure of what to do with this data & how to figure out which of these terms we should optimise for. I know not to go purely based on the local monthly search volume because that is not based on organic searches. So how would I go about condensing this into a list of keyword suggestions to target for optimising? Thanks in advance for assistance on this.
