Tool for finding what keywords a competitor ranks for?
-
Does anyone know of any good tools that display what keywords a competitor ranks for?
I have many competitors that I know get a lot of traffic, but I'm not entirely sure where the traffic comes from so it would be nice to plug in their url and get a general overview of what keywords they rank for and what positions.

If you use a MAC - SERank is great
If you use a PC - Web CEO

Agree with the guys here, another vote for SEMRush, though having analysed my own sites on it numerous times, its really a rough guide not an exact science, very useful all the same.

You may wish to explore SEOProfiler and SEMRush, both of which have features that can help you identify what keywords competitors are ranking for.

Hello,
A good tool which I think could help you better understand the types of keywords your competitors rank for is www.semrush.com. It's a paid service(from $69.95) but there is a free version which provides you a little insight.
What's good about this tool is it provides the organic keyword rankings for your competitors so it helps you improve your keyword research etc...
There is also 'keyword spy' feature if your competitors are advertising through adwords.
Although, I wouldn't put my house on it being 100% accurate, I would say it should be around 70-80% which is pretty cheap considering it's only $69.95 month.
Hope this helps

There is a difference between keywords they rank for, keywords they get traffic for, and keywords they make money from. I rank number one for the phrase "People usually build battleships, battlecruisers, and cruisers" and all kinds of other exact phrases from my home page -- but it doesn't mean that anyone is searching that, or that it's making me any money. Adobe Reader ranks for "click here" but it's not a converting phrase for them.
My gut says you'd need expensive tools where they have access to a ton of data at an ISP level to see what queries people are typing for sites you do not own.

I am familiar with both those tools and they do not provide what I am looking for. Specifically I'd love something that spits out a report of the top 100 keywords they rank for in google and shows their positioning in the SERPs.

I use SEO site tools extension for chrome. This allows you to easily see their meta description and keywords. Same as looking in their header tag just a bit quicker.
SEO book have a keyword analyser. http://tools.seobook.com/general/keyword-density/
They should be ranking high for their most mentioned keywords if their doing things correctly.

Use OSE and look at their anchor text. This should give you a clue as to what keywords the have optimized for.

Lost Search Ranking - how to fix spammy backlinks
I have a health niche website ( grocare.com ) Recently I subscribed to ahrefs and moz and found out so many spammy backlinks to my site (which i didn't create). Someone told me this is a common competitor tactic. To create bad links for your website to drank it. My question is - in ahrefs now, there are a LOT of spammy anchors and it seems more backlinks are being created by spammy websites automatically. I have lost many rankings because of this. I tried diluting by creating more normal anchors but it doesnt seem to be working. How do I fix this ? Any help is apprecciated xVrvj1q

How to Find Another Site's robots.txt File?
An SEO report, not by SEOmoz, says my top two competitors have robots.txt files that disallows spidering. I suspect that their robots.txt file doesn't disallow all spidering. How do I find out what is in their robots.txt files?

What keywords would you suggest for interesting concept?
Not sure if it's OK to ask just about anything as long as it is relevant, but I would love to hear thoughts about good keywords to promote an app that will make it easy to migrate/move phone data and files - contacts, photos, music, calendars - from one phone - like a BB, iPhone or WinMo - to an Android phone or device? I'm having the darnest time coming up with phrases that people who are searching for such an app would use? Thanks

Can't Grasp Why Pages rank Higher?
The first result "Bankruptcy on IRS" is the search term. Why does the first url rank higher in google. The second one, the IRS.gov page beats them in PA, DA root domains links. The title meta has bankruptcy near the front. unclefed does have the IRS keyword in the title, but an I missing something here? What are the other factors, that are most obvious. Sure one can have bad links, and other negative criteria, but these are pretty decent sites that probably don't engage in much in seo, let alone bad SEO. Sure link text and mix of links can help, but am I missing something here? Actually what I think I really need IS A CHECKLIST OF WHAT TO CHECK IN WHAT ORDER WHEN COMPARING WHY ONE PAGE RANKS BETTER THAN ANOTHER. Appreciate all discussions. Thanks in advance. http://www.unclefed.com/AuthorsRow/Daily/Fwdcsea.html http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=98701,00.html

Does anyone know of a keyword difficulty API?
Hi Mozzers, I've made a script that uses the Google Adwords API to insert big lists of keywords ideas and their monthly search volume into our database. It would be awesome to be able to also automatically get a difficulty score for those keywords from a tool like the SEOmoz Keyword Difficulty Tool. Sadly this tool doesn't seem to be in the SEOmoz API. Google does provide a competition score in the AdWords API, but that's only based on the competitiveness of the AdWords auction for that keyword. So my question is: does anyone know another keyword difficulty tool, that does have an API? Thanks! Daan
