Hi guys.. post-penguin my website coming in and out of serps every other day... what reason for that? ie. #11 --> #300+
-
We had one of the pre-penguin "unnatural links " messages in WMT - then Penguin hit April 24th/25th..
wee then set to work on Link profile...
since 19th May we have had numerous search phrases come 'back' into rank pre-penguin for a day ie.. #5 - #10 and then drop the next.. ie 300+
this has been happening across a wide range of key phrases.... in fact it may well be that the key phrases are added to the serps 'briefly' or for a set amount of time... but our ranking checker checks daily so while it appears to be every other day in and out there may be another pattern...
but the question is What is Google doing here and Why?
any suggestions?
-
Many of the rankings that were dropped were ranked on page 1-2 for 5+ years...

I agree with EGOL here and think duplicate content may be an issue. I'm guessing that your site and another similar site are switching places with the other being kicked to the supplemental index.
Try adding some more, new unique content to your pages. See if that helps.

I am having a similar issue ...but am only seeing a a few sites and it seems to be segments with grand competition and over use of keywords, like tactics that were grey hat are for sure black What tool displays ranking 200 to 300 indexed pages back in Google?
-
There is more than one "google".
Google runs lots of experimental algos at the same time. You could be in on one and out on the other.
Also, if your site has duplicate content that is on another site, google will sometimes display one site with that content and then another.
So keep working on linkprofile and check for duplicate content.

Interesting -- so serps that have held steady for a while then dropped by that much? It's strange to think penguin could have such a huge effect.
Curious, if you don't mind answering, the rankings that dropped, were they steady for a time and how long?
-
just to clarify I am NOT talking about daily serps movements - I am talking about massive drop by 200-300 places... and show pre-Penguin results and then post-Penguin results...

I've noticed similar happenings with sites I monitor and I too have been searching for an answer. I know Google is working to improve the "real time" results to show more on topic, on date events so you can't always be sure daily of a certain spot. Also, tools we use to run these reports are databases and only get updated so often, they are not truly "real time"
I've also noticed differences in ranking reports across several tools so which is the best? I use seomoz, webceo, ahrefs and semrush and I rarely get an agreement amongst these.
In the long run, my opinion is that "ranking" for a certain keyword is not as important as seeing relevant traffic for a keyword coming through your seo campaigns. So, if your ranking drops, does your traffic drop for that keyword? If yes, then it may be an optimization thing and you need to look at link authority, competitors that are now ahead,...or maybe it was just a fluctuation in real time results.

Google not giving ranking to the intended page of my website.
Hello friends, This is my very first question, I hope I will explain my issue correctly. I have created two pages related to SSC CGL keyword on my website: https://www.ibtindia.com/ssc-cgl-notification-exam-date 2) https://www.ibtindia.com/ssc-cgl-apply-online I want to target the keyword SSC CGL Apply Online on the 2nd URL but Google is only considering the 1st page for all the "apply" related keywords as well. Can anyone suggest to me how to get the second page in rankings for its intended keywords? I will be very thankful for this help. I tried adding image but its showing dummy. Spammy website dominating SERPs! Why!?
Hey guys, I've recently noticed that a series of EMDs have been setup to completely spam an extensive set of keywords - and it seems to be working. All of the URLs are keyword targeted with tons of keyword variations. And they're getting massive ranking preference over a number of more established websites. These are just an example of some of the domains; diykitchens1.co.uk fittedkitchens1.co.uk cheapkitchens1.co.uk kitchenunits1.co.uk And then there's loads of local targeted domains such as; kitchensglasgow1.co.uk kitchensedinburgh1.co.uk Again, all of these are getting high ranking with what seems to be duplicated websites. It's pretty bizarre. Will Google penalise these sites? Surely they will?

2 websites for 2 dealer locations or one website for both locations - Thoughts?
I'm trying to decide what would be the best option for my client. They are a car dealership group who own 2 dealerships about a half hour away from each other. The dealerships have the same name but are just located in different locations. One dealership is in a small city in competition with several other dealerships within the city. "Dealership name city name" The other dealership they own (Same dealership name) is located in a small town close to an even larger city. "Same dealership name small town name" My options are: 1. Creating 1 authoritative website optimized for all 3 locations. The 2 cities both dealerships are located in as well as the large city close to the small town. This option would be less time consuming, we would only have to earn links, citations & blog for one website. However we'd still need to have citations using both dealership addresses. So that's still double the work. This site would probably be more authoritative and we could have a page promoting each dealership & have shared vehicle inventory. We'd attach 2 Google+ pages using the different addresses & have both location addresses prominently in the footer of the site. 2. Create 2 separate websites for each dealership & target the surrounding towns/cities in their respective areas (even though both dealerships are only a half hour apart). This option is more time consuming as we'd have to earn double the amount of links. Work on citation building, blog for 2 websites etc. But we wouldn't be diluting our SEO by trying to rank for all 3 locations. We'd have a better chance if we focused on each locations separately on 2 sites. BUT the 2 sites would have less authority. What is everyone's thoughts? What would you recommend to be the best option. Money isn't an issue. Thanks so much for any help.

Meta description of homepage, changing to latest post
Here's something strange I noticed. The meta description for Engadget when doing a Google search is their latest blog entry. However, if you land on the homepage and view source the page, the meta description is a standard one for their homepage. My first impressions : Wha? How? and Wha? Could it be because it is a "news" site, Google goes "go on, have custom meta descriptions of your latest entry.." Thoughts?

Why are my SERPs fluctuating 60+/- on a weekly basis?
I have a blog that's gone from not indexed, to indexed and ranked around 85 on 3 target key phrases. With a bit of SEO the blog jumped to around 11th on those 3 key phases in a week or so. Now, the following week, it has bombed back to 76th. Why the dramatic fluctuations?
