There are companies who evaluate what effect the penguin update had on a website. Is this possible and is it a good investment ?
-
I have been hit by the penguin update. I have found companies who for $300 will evaluate my site for potential problems. Is this possible and is it worth the investment
-
I strongly agree with Adam's second paragraph. I would diagnose the problems a bit yourself, and then find the right people to help you fix it.

It is possible to evaluate a site and suggest areas that may have caused it suffer with the penguin update. However you should be very careful about which firm you choose as many not so reputable sites are cropping up offering such services. If you want to use an seo firm then I suggest you take a look at the SEOmoz recommended companies.
To be honest you probably don't need someone to tell you what's wrong, with a bit of reading and self analysis you will be able to find what has happened and more than likely it will be down to your backlinks.. Your money may be better spent hiring s reputable SEO to help fix the problems rather than tell you what the problems are.
Adam.

Are Hotel Vanity Websites considered a Doorway Page to brand.com?
I work for a large 3rd party management company and we use vanity websites to help us market our hotels. They provide us the ability to better manage our content as well as provide value to our customers versus the brand site. An example would be Vanity: http://www.hiltonmonterey.com/Brand.com: http://hiltongardeninn3.hilton.com/en/hotels/california/hilton-garden-inn-monterey-MRYMHGI/index.htmlBased on my reading of Google's guidelines I am concerned that our vanity site may be interpreted as such. Please advise if this is the case.

Does keyword usage in the footer have an effect on how high a page ranks?
My client has a lot of text about their company in their footer. Is the text in the footer associated with the on page keyword usage and density for all pages or none of the pages?

Website redesign: site going from .php to .html
A site I'm working on is being redesigned because the current platform does not allow for content to be changed easily. In the process, they are going from .php to .html. I am concerned about their losing link juice. Can a site work with the old content remaining .php and the new content being .html or should all pages stay .php?

Content ideas for different sections of a news website?
A news website I'm working on has pages for various sectors, much like any major news site (in this case for example - defence, energy, trade & finance etc.). I've been asked to add content of 150 words or more to each sector, containing keywords we're targeting. I can see the value of this SEO-wise but can't see how we can write anything that adds value for the user. I don't want to add some rubbish for the sake of keywords, I want the information to be useful. The best idea I can come up with is to write an overview of the challenges and topics making the news in each sector, perhaps a bit of historical detail - but I don’t think this will add much value from a user-perspective, and it's not something where there will be the resources available to update often (or to provide some 'best on the web' type info). Any other ideas? Or do you think my idea is a great one? ;-)The pages in question are like the majority of news pages; each item with a synopsis and the usual extra things like a poll and 'most read' box. I've looked at other news sites and can't see one that has any extra content in the way we require.Thanks.

What is the effect of too many internal links on a page?
Hi there! We have been doing a great effort during the last year but our main competitor is still above us in search rankings. Basically, the main differente remains now in the number of internal links, specially in our homepage. We have more than 200 and they only have around 100, so I think we are wasting too much link power among some irrelevant pages. What could be the effect of this?
