Can you expound why i have to avoid using meta keywords?
-
I'm using the on page report card and it tells me that i have to avoid using meta keywords.I'm a little bit confused. I thought that it's important to use it all the time so search engine can better index the site. if I use SEO Quake it will tell me in the diagnostic test that I need to input keywords.

"Bing looks at meta keywords as a spam signal and not a ranking signal."
That's something I hand't heard before. Great.
I haven't been inserting keywords for a long time, after hearing that they were no help for SEO. However, in the beginning we were using them on some pages. We have several hundred pages on our WordPress site. I guess I will have to go look for a plugin to remove them. Can anyone recommend one for that purpose? We're built on Thesis (I'm sorry to say, now) which doesn't play well with a lot of the mainstream SEO plugins like the one from Yoast.
Thanks,
- Tim

It's unlikely that your keywords will give away some huge secret, but at the very least it will make the job a tad easier on your competitors. And because the tag has zero benefit, why would you want to even give a small advantage to your competitors?
-
I don't buy the - "it gives competitors what you are trying to rank for" arguement. Hell, all you have to do is go to a page title or look around a bit on some text and it should be glaringly obviously what they are trying to rank for.

Google doesn't support meta keywords. Bing looks at meta keywords as a spam signal and not a ranking signal.
So there really isn't any reason to use them.

Search Engines do not use meta-keywords for ranking.................
I would never use all the keywords you are targeting in that meta it makes less work for you competition to outrank you
-
Search engines stopped using the keywords tag a long time ago, presumably because it was being abused by just about every single webmaster in the world.
So, if you still use it, you're getting zero SEO benefit plus you're saying to your competitors "Hey guys, here are the keywords that I'm trying to rank for. I just thought I'd let you know in case you want to compete with me for those ranking spots." Not a good idea.

Can I reuse meta description tag on another site?
Hi....lets say i sell widgets and on my site i have redWidgets, blueWidgets and greenWidgets. Each of these widget page's has a meta description tag that seems to help click through. I now have a different site that would like to do a right up about each widget and will dedicate a independent page to each widget. Can i safely provide them with the original meta descriptions (from my original site) for each widget i have on my site to then use on these "right up" pages (as they seem to work well and are informative of the subject matter). I am not sure if this is a seo issue or not. I would think not but would appreciate any input. thank you

Keyword and SERP Help Please
So I am curious about keyword placements etc. My main question is: So is whatever you search for in say Google must be the same in a website - to be found? So say you search for plumbers in Colorado Then you must have that exact, same phrase, in your website to be found? or does Google know based on title tags and such that a page is about plumbers and they service Colorado? I just want to make sure I am understanding how keywords work to be found. I mean you can have Colorado plumbers and plumbers in Colorado. So its hard to figure out how to use keywords. So a brief suggestion is greatly appreciated Chris

Hi Everyone, Encountered this NOHTMLINDEX tag within the section of a website and I am not really sure how it affects the performance of the website and its use. This meta robots tag has been used on numerous pages like the home page, content pages and forum threads. Is it good to keep it there or should it be removed and why? Thanks in advance! Steve

Meta Keywords
Hello Everyone- Quick question about meta keywords. Most SEO's agree that meta keywords are no longer used as a ranking factor in Google. My question is, if a client comes to me and they already have a bunch of meta keywords on their site what would the smart strategy be? 1. Remove all the meta keyword data from the clients site 2. Scale the meta keywords back by only leaving the top keywords in the code? 3. Do nothing Thanks for all your time! Regards, Bill Parlaman
