Link Building Post Penguin?
-
I really am lost as to what to do these days..
The problem with my industry is the whole idea of link bait isn't very lucrative.
There are no bloggers either, so guest blogging also isn't a very good option. Seems to me like the best thing I can do is just publish content!
So, publish a lot of quality content? LOL, sounds like that's right up Google's alley.
Where do you publish your content, and what would you say has shown the best results for you personally?
We called an SEO company, Arteworks, a few days ago (Friday), and they really didn't go into any details about how they build links.
We called them because I saw a post that you commented on, here, and it recommended a few companies at the bottom of the post. (Arteworks being one of them) Really, this is where I get so dang confused... The goal is to build links like the old days, except only use unique content, diversify your pages, and anchor text?
Sound about right?
Or, should I only create content on my site?
Thanks in advance for your time and advice!!
Sincerely,
Tyler Abernethy

In our industry we have noticed a lot of competitors have been creating info sites and plugging them with content, then linking back to the site they want to push higher in rankings.
You are really lucky that these guys are not so smart. When they build an info site with a store you better start prayin'.

I like these types of niches where there are very few sources of links. So, when you do earn a link it is really really valuable!
That's where I use a content attack and create "how to use it".... "how to select it"..... "how to fix it".... posts for lots of different products. Competition might be numerous but they are usually weak - and typically none of them have what it takes to do the substative writing needed to make their site stand out.
My retail sites generally have more information pages than sales pages.

Yep. Some people have been doing this for years. And lots of people wish that they had done that too.
Where do you publish your content.
I publish it on my site. I don't give anything that I write away. Far too valuable to give away.

In our industry we have noticed a lot of competitors have been creating info sites and plugging them with content, then linking back to the site they want to push higher in rankings. If you have loads of content, maybe make a couple or few wordpress info sites specific to your industry, then link back to your main site.Maybe even make one a blog, allow comments and visit and post to other blogs to gain some traffic to your blog site.
That should not be your only focus seo wise, but should be a very good compliment to it. Add in some social media and I think that would get you going in the right direction.

I really think the linkbuilding world is crashing down for many SEOs. It used to be that you could build some directory links, perhaps buy a couple of links and do a few other relatively simple things and in many niches you could do relatively well at ranking a website.
With the recent changes in Google, more and more, content is becoming important. But, it's not just a matter of creating new content. You still need to have skill in promoting that content.
I think the successful SEOs of this age are ones that can do some creative thinking to come up with content ideas and then be able to network well to get those ideas in front of other websites and get them linking to their site.

Reasonable Cost for Link Building Service
We need about 5-10 high quality links to our website created every month. We need the link targets researched and outreach done to these sites. The sites most be legitimate and high quality; decent domain authority, real sites, not phony low quality sites. Sites that would show traffic in similarweb.com with decent metrics. We absolutely want to avoid any link building schemes that could get us penalized. I have been told that such a project would take a qualified SEO about 8-10 hours per months (more during the additional month of research, less afterward). As such, what is a reasonable cost for these 5-10 links per month? $300, $500, $700, more? I only want to work with a highly experienced SEO, native english speaker with extensive experience. What is fair? I don't want to overpay or to under pay. Thanks, Alan

Link Types For Link Building
Hi i have a SEO agency we work with who are building quality guest post links for us, however they are also building forum, profile, blog comments
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | spyaccounts14
and directory based links. 60% of their links they are building are high quality, relevant guest posts while the other 40% are the other link types. The 40% seem to be relevant directories, forums, blog comments, etc. They said they build other link types because it diversifies the link building and profile rather then just building high quality guest posts. As just building one link type can leave a footprint. What are your thoughts on this? Cheers.0 -
URL Value: Menu Links vs Body Content Links
Hi All, I'm a little confused. I have read a number of articles from authority sites that give mixed signals over the importance of menu links vs body content links. It is suggested that whilst all menu links spread link juice equally, Google does not see them as favourably. Inserting a link within the body will add more link juice value to the desired page. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Mark

PDF for link building - avoiding duplicate content
Hello, We've got an article that we're turning into a PDF. Both the article and the PDF will be on our site. This PDF is a good, thorough piece of content on how to choose a product. We're going to strip out all of the links to our in the article and create this PDF so that it will be good for people to reference and even print. Then we're going to do link building through outreach since people will find the article and PDF useful. My question is, how do I use rel="canonical" to make sure that the article and PDF aren't duplicate content? Thanks.

Internal linking between categories
Is it necessary to do internal links between the same categories of a website ( Let's say Ihave a category about shoes and in the category I have a page about boots and one about sandals ( should the page boots be accessible from the page sandals and the other way round or is the back button going back to the section shoes enough ) ? If internal links between the same category ( sandals to boots ) are needed/recommended is it also a good practice to do site wide links between categories ( shoes and and bags for example ) Because by reading google recommendations "Make a site with a clear hierarchy and text links. Every page should be reachable from at least one static text link" I am not sure if they are talking about breadcrumbs or text links i am kind of lost ... Thank you,

Should I build links to the home page or a url containing the keyword?
I run an IT company and the company name does not contain the key word I am trying to rank on. I also have a bunch of pages with page rank that containing the actual keywords, for example: http://www.mycompanyname.com/tech-support/locations/brighton My target keyword is "Tech Support Brighton" My Home page is PR4 and my location based pages are PR3. My plan was to build 3 or 4 location pages for the locations we provide tech support for and target location based keyword Anchor text to these URL's e.g "Tech Support Brighton" and then for the home page build links that have the anchor text "Tech Support". Does this sound sane? Many Thanks, K
