How many days/hours a month should I dedicate to link building ?
-
I realise that the more time you dedicate to link building the better, but what would you say is the ideal amount of time that I should spend link building to see a significant improvement in rankings? The keywords I'm trying to target are medium to difficult.
So far, I've been spending one day link building but since I'm making all link submissions manually, I haven't seen great results, even though I've been link building for a couple of months. How many days do you spend link building?
Thank you in advance for your help!

SEOBUNNY,
I guess the best anwser to that questions is an 'it depends'.
I agree with the other posters that guest posting relevant content is probably among the best strategys as long as they are not just glorified directories. As they also said, with penguin, if you are submitting to some directories, they can hurt you. If you're a local business I would try getting some links from local organizations such as chambers of commerce, newspaper websites, local business organizations, etc. Those should be safe links.
A lot really depends on your type of business as-well. Some will have more link building opportunities than others. Also, try to write the best content possible and hopefully some of it gets picked up by legit sites. It's really a value for value thing, when you're putting value out there, you'll get some value in terms of rankings.
Good Luck! If you need any help you can PM me.

@ Marie : I agree with you about much of what I'm observing about guest blogging. I get neg'd whenever I say so. Many people must disagree. But G appears to be culling the heard of sites. (I expect this trend to continue and the price of entry into the game to continue to steadily increase). The sites that post a couple of articles a day utilizing entirely guest authored blogs who are likely to be devalued substantially in the next 1 - 2 years regardless of their DA/PA or psuedo-PR.
@ SEO Bunny - It's increasingly coming down to who you know. I'd start by approaching my friends within my industry who also have blogs. Although the stats of many of these sites are quite low (I'm not a prof. SEO), some of them may improve over time and the contextual links will be HIGHLY relevant to both sites because both of the sites concern the same fairly narrow topic. In a sense, these links are "harder" to get. There will be few OBL's to brand sites because of the level of trust / personal relationship required.

The game is changing for SEO's now. With the latest Google algo updates, it has become that the vast majority of links that you can create by yourself are not going to be worth much, and possibly could even get you a penalty.
Personally, I spend most of my time brainstorming and then creating content and then promoting that content. In some niches I do the odd directory submission where I feel it is relevant and helpful.
I still do some guest posting but my gut instinct is that a lot of guest posting will be devalued soon. (Many here will disagree with me.) But I look at it like this: Google's algo updates lately have all revolved around reducing the effectiveness of self made links. So, if a guest posting opportunity is easy to get then it may not be that helpful. However, getting a guest post published on a well known site like seomoz or others that have high editorial input may be helpful.

We are moving to HTTPS and wanted to know if our link building efforts were in vain or will the link juice pass to HTTPS?
We are switching to HTTPS and want to make sure the links we've gotten in the past will still transfer since they are pointing to HTTP? I'd hate to go back through and ask people to please add an s to the link.

Best Methods - Link Building
We are having more and more "new" customers coming to us who have been hit by various algorithms imposed by google. After we have run a site health check and corrected everything, we plan and come up with a link development plan which suits the clients needs. Much of out link development work is safe comprising of; 1. Guest Blog Posts - where we develop creative content with the customer to publish. 2. Industry blog posts - where bloggers write about i.e. "the company" 3. Social media - posting pictures, commenting on forums, etc 4. Paid directories with authority We don't develop links in any other way and it brings results in the long term. Is anyone out there doing something else? Link building can sometimes be like walking on a tight rope. Thanks and happy holidays Gary - Elite Group Marketing London

Anyone have experience with AdTaxi for link building services?
Recently a client of ours received a proposal from a local newspaper for search related services, including link building. I believe the name of the company the paper is working with for some of these services is AdTaxi, which i had not heard of before. Anyone have experience with these guys from a link building standpoint? I know that here we are more "do it yourselfers" and for the most part, we handle all of the on-page and technical SEO for our client's sites, but link building as a dedicated service isn't something we have the resources to offer so I'm just looking to do some research. Thank you! -William

Link building need help
I've been doing link building for the past 2 months for a website. I've put together some blog posts and submitted them to some sites. However, I don't want to repeat the content on other sites or use the same sites again for links. The problem with this company is that nothing is happening. The last press release they issued was in 2010 and in the 4 months I've been working for them nothing has happened. I have found a few good quality websites in our niche which I could approach for links, but I want to have good content to put on them. Does anyone have any ideas as how to create content that would be suitable, bearing in mind this a B2B company.

Building links to reviews: Movies, Restaurants, etc
My site has lots of reviews: Movies, TV, Music, Restaurants, etc. I'm looking for sites that take critic reviews and link back to the critic's site. We're already on Metacritic.com and Rottentomatoes.com, which seems to be the two biggies for movies & tv. But I'm sure there are more out there. Also, I'd love to find sites for restaurant reviews (specifically in the Boston area). Are there any lists out there of sites like these? I'm NOT looking for UGC sites that allow user reviews. I'm looking for sites that accept professional critic reviews, preferably via some sort of automated feed. Thanks Mozzers!

Looking to outsource some of our link building...
Hi Everyone, We are a small online marketing firm in the UK and we are starting to hit a bit of a bottleneck in terms of the resources that we have that can be devoted to link building. As a result, we need to outsource the link building for some of our clients (around 10). Obviously, we only want ethical, white hat link building to take place and it really is a focus on quality rather than quantity. As you can imagine, being a fairly small firm, we also have a very limited budget! We would ideally like to work with UK link builders but would definitely look at overseas partnerships if it worked out more cost effective and the standard of the link building meets our standards. Just so that I'm not wasting anyone's time, we have a budget of around £200-300 for this (I know, its a very limited budget!). I understand that with this budget comes limitations so we would be more than willing at looking at some stripped down packages (for example, we already have in-house bloggers, so we wouldn't need that). Let me know if you are interested or if you would be able to recommend anyone to me. It would be a great help. Matt

Link Building for a Newbie!
Hi Guys & Girls. Following my previous question, I seem to really be getting to grips with SEOmoz and all its features which seem fantastic. As mentioned before, I am quite new to this SEO game and learning all the time!! Through all my reading and learning over the last week I have learnt that Link Building is one of the most powerful ways of increasing your SEO game. I'm really trying to get my head around it all. I have come across things like "Link Farming" which seems to be a big no no in terms of Google. Submitting to Link directories etc etc. Now for somebody new, this all comes across quite confusing. Can anybody out there provide me with a really simple but informative way to effectively Link Build? Best practices etc etc! I really want to learn and "up" my game! The website that I am working with is http://www.advanced-incar.co.uk Many thanks, Tim
