Removing links from blogpost inactive blogs
-
Hi there, I am having alot of difficulty in removing links to my domain name from .blogspot.com blogs which are inactive and i cannot contact the user.
Not so great previous seo works were done and i now need to clean it up, however no idea how to get rid of these blogspot ones.
As Google own it, do they have a contact form for it, where i can complain and get pages removed?
Any help MUCH appreciated guys and gals.

No problem, I feel for your predicament.
Let me know if you need any help with anything.
Thanks,
David

Yeah it's all going to our homepage, and i cannot move domains
17 bogspot dodgy blogs i need to get us removed from and 40 other sites who have nicely got no contact or whois info.
Brnading is the key i totally agree, thankyou for your advice, it is appreciated.

Yeh you want at least 50% of your keywords to be branded, so I can see why you are having problems. The two prong attack should help you though, if you can get 20-30 links removed and build the same amount, the balance will be moving back in your favour.
The page that is ranking on page 3, is that the one with all the exact match anchor text pointing at it?
If there are no great links in there, it might be worth cutting your losses and sending a 404 for that page, and launching the same page from fresh.
If the dodgy links are at your home page, then it looks like you're stuck pushing for these removals (unless you're ready to up and move domains).
I'm always about pushing for new links rather than trying to tidy up old ones, but in this scenario I can see your hand is being forced.
Cheers

Hi David, yeah im doing lots of branded links but the situation is this:
Anchor text one = 110 linking domains
Anchor text two = 57 linking domains
Anchor text one is what we want = were on page 3, its a very very competitive keyword
Anchor text two is brand.
I believe the reason is theres just far too many linking domains going to anchor text one.

Fair enough, if there's loads then you might have your options narrowed down.
Are they pointing at the home page or individual url's? If there are any url's that have tons of the dodgy links pointing at them, it might be worth killing them with a 404. Google went on record last week saying that any links pointing at a 404 will be discounted, so would be a good option for something like this.
Even if you go down the route of removing the links, I'd still recommend working to build up a stock of decent branded links at the same time.
If you want any help with the project, let me know.
Thanks
David

Thankyou very much, yes they have to go if i can get rid, way too many links done for the same anchor text.

Hi Paul,
For the effort you would have to go through to get these links removed, you would be much better spending the time building new links that will boost your site whilst counteracting any links you think are damaging you.
Unless the number is in the thousands, I wouldn't worry about it at all. Go out and acquire some fresh, branded, links that will balance out your profile.
That said, if you are determined to have them removed, it will be a long hard slog with no guarantee that Google would play ball. There are a few ways to contact them, they would probably suggest using their product forums. However, if you want a quicker repsonse find some Googlers on G+ and fire them a message. A good chunk of their bonus is based on the success of G+, so they are all desperate to make it work. If you find the right Googler from the products team you might be able to get some answers.
Cheers
David

Inbound link is follow link but we put no follow link back - is it beneficial for rankings?
Dear Moz Community, We are operating in a niche market, where there are not so many content marketing options. What we are left with are link exchanging with relevant sites that are on the same topic but to not directly compete with us. Now we know that if we link back to site A and site a links back to us - for google this is not a very good link. But, some of the sites we are exchanging links with, do not know the term follow vs no follow links. My question - if your link is to site A is a no follow link but they give us a follow link - does it mean thats a better option than a follow vs follow. Thanks for help!

Relaunching a site that has had thousands of posts linking to the same 20 articles. How to properly setup internal linking?
I'm in the process of relaunching a music news site (www.prefixmag.com) that once did quite well in search (over a million monthly search visits in its prime). The site got crushed by Panda, etc. and we stopped updating it. I'm starting to do more research but one thing that I noticed was we have modules in the right rail (desktop) that are found on all of our article pages that point to the same posts. (Edit: Added attachment. The links in the right rail under Editor Picks, Features, News, Media, etc. are found on every page of the site). In other words, we have thousands of posts that all link to the same 20 or so articles. Should we not do this if we're not trying to emphasize these posts in Google? Assuming this is the case, what is the proper way to do internal linking? Do we simply setup a sitemap and link to it? I'm hoping to have the thousands of articles we've published over the years have a chance to rank in search again. Also, we have a number of posts that are thin in content should those pages not be submitted in the sitemap? Thanks in advance! 2KmX0

Self linking - loss of link juice?
There are 10 links on page that point to this page where they exist (link to the page itself). Does it influence on ranking? And what's happening to link juice? How does it spread? Is there any loss of it?

Ecomerce: Would 4 link sections leak too much link juice?
Hello, In my content management for our ecomerce site, I've found that there are sometimes links to sites in our industry that have "helpful links" sections. Several strong sites link directly to these resource sections. There are 4 different topics that fit this trend in our industry. Would it leak too much link juice to make 4 comprehensive link sections and place a link to them on our "Useful Articles" page? Or should I stick to one comprehensive link section? Or perhaps a small link section? Or none at all? Thanks.

What to do with some good links I have?
I have some pretty strong links from relevant sources linking to the homepage of a site I deal with. The links are usually from a PR3-5 pages and display specific result about the linking site. Sometimes they come from badges. We offer several services, so sometimes the page is about one service and next time about the other. Currently all of my pages link to the homepage. Would it not be better to link to the specific product page related to the page I have? Also I can do a canonical to the service pages? Which would be best?
