What are your latest backlinks? How can you tell?
-
Hi
Can anyone recommend a tool (which is up to date) which shows the latest backlinks (in date order) that has been added to a website?
Mainly I am planning for checking for bad links etc
Many Thanks

Hi Keri
Just logged into GWT and can't see the option you mention? Where can I find this?
Thanks

Google Webmaster Tools just released an option to download your most recent links. As long as you can verify the site in GWT, that should be really helpful for you.

I really enjoy OSE for links, but also use AHREFs.
Keep in mind any tool you use has limitations. First, they all crawl the web which takes time. Outside of Google and Yahoo, the most elaborate web crawler I am aware of is MozScape. Currently about $600k is spent per update (roughly a month). SEOmoz has invested millions more this year in improving the process and hopefully we will see the benefits of that investment soon.
There are a few limitations with any tool:
-
no tool crawls 100% of the web
-
a page could sit for months or years without being crawled, then a change can occur on a site or a new link is created to the page and it is found. The link would appear and you might think it is new even though it is not.
-
there are various factors which affect the order of a crawl
In brief, you should know the tool you are seeking does not exist. All crawlers have limitations. If you desire the best results, you need to subscribe to numerous tools and check the results regularly. I use the following tools: Google WMT, OSE, AHREFs, Raven and SEMrush. There are numerous other tools as well such as Majestic.

How can a high authority website get away with this?
I found out a website i manage recently lost a link from Business Insider - DA 90+ ... after losing this link my DA dropped 5 points! I read the article and it is absolute GIBBERISH. the link that replaced my link actually links to a site that contains pornographic ads (jumbotrons.net). link: https://www.businessinsider.com.au/ninth-circuit-gay-marriage-quote-2012-12 my questions: 1. how would a company this reputable with a DA 90+ be building pages like this without major penalties? (i realize it is from .au (australia) but from research they own that site too) 2. how exactly does this work? are they selling links to people? did my competitor pay them to replace my link with theirs? why create a page that sounds like robots wrote it 3. would it be a good idea for me to try to get the link back? it certainly was helping considering i lost 5 DA points when i lost the link, but it goes against everything that makes sense in what i've read about toxic links and keeping things clean Curious to learn a little more about these dark arts!!!

What Would You Consider a Good Backlink Profile?
I know there's no such thing as a perfect profile but when you're building links, do you try to maintain certain ratios such as: dofollow vs. nofollow exact match anchors vs. raw URL anchors vs. random anchors (click here, visit site, etc.) Thanks!

Press Releases as Backlinking
After analyzing one of my competitors I notices they show up in PRweb as one of their top rated back linking sites. My question is using prweb or something similar okay to use for backlinking? Would they help at all? Also, since they distribute content, would I get penalized for duplicate content?

Can No Follow Links Hurt Rankings?
Thanks to sites like SEOmoz and good folks like yourselves I was able to understand enough about SEO to know that the company we outsourced the SEO to were doing at best a sloppy job. I have seen that the link profile of site is totally unnatural in terms of factors such as relevancy and anchor text but also that around 95% of the 800 links are no follow. My question is whether these low quality no follow links causing unnatural anchor text ratios and poor link relevancy would hurt our rankings? I am basically wondering if I have to now go and try to have all those links removed somehow to avoid any problems going forward?

How long before backlinks take effect?
In general how long would it take for Google to update the SERP after it found the external link activity? Does it depend on the website the link is on as? So for example, after it found a link on the BBC would the SERP update a lot quicker then after a link on a small blog? Maybe Google updates on a certain day?
