Thoughts on these footer links

I have a site that has about 20 footer links. A main Category and 4-5 links under each.
The site is very large, so I feel they do have some value for navigation, and they don't blend in with the background at all.
I know penguin was cracking down on footer links, but I don't feel theses are "spammy" links.
Will it hurt long-term to leave these links, or should we pull them?

Just me guessin'.....
I doubt that they will "hurt" your site unless those links are going to external sites with a poor reputation or external sites that are unrelated.
One thing that I can say with a little more confidence...
When I place a link to a page in the top navigation of my site the rankings usually go up.... and the page that I removed to make space for it usually drops. It takes weeks to months to see this change but that is my experience.

I like your creative reply. I guess it doesn't matter what we think. Is there any way to tell if footer links are actually hurting your site?

Google: "What you think doesn't matter."
EGOL: uhhh....
Google: "If these are such kickass links why are you hiding them in the footer? Get them up high and in bold font so that everybody who enters the site will see them.... Then we will give them their due importance."

Too many on-page links
Hi, I've apparently got too many on-page links on 79 of my webpages. The majority of these pages are category pages, like this: https://www.turnkeymortgages.co.uk/mortgage-advice/mortgages/... so, what's a person to do? Obviously the page would be useless without the links. Should I just ignore these 'errors'? Or is there something else I should do? I don't want to appear manipulative by labelling them nofollow... Spammy link for each keyword
Some people believe that having a link for each keyword and a page of content for each keyword (300+ words) can help ranking for those keywords. However, the old approach of having "restaurant New York", "restaurant Buffalo", "restaurant Newark" approach has become seen as a terrible SEO practice. I don't know whether this was because it's spammy or because people usually combined it with thin content that was 95% duplicate. To Many Links On Page
I'm having a problem on a crawl warning for our main site. The warning is that every one of my pages has to many links, a little over 1,000 on almost all of them. I think this is because our category list on our left hand sidebar has so many categories, and that sidebar appears on every last one of our pages even all the way into our products. Can anyone take a look and tell me if this is the reason why and what I could possibly do about this? Thanks in advance! www.Ocelco.com

Footer link to home page?
Quick question - is it a best practice to add a footer link on each page of a website that points back to your home page, with the anchor text being your official brand name?

Do you get penalized for cloaking the nofollow attribute in reciprocal link?

Internal linking best practice
See example: car rental - sedans - bmw car rental - sedans - audi car rental - sedans - ford (internal links to sedans - audi, ford) or (internal links to suv - bmw) car rental - suv - bmw car rental - suv - audi car rental - suv - ford (internal links to suv- audi, ford) or (internal links to sedans- bmw...) Should I cross link only between the product page under each category or can I link between different products under different categories? From a user point of view, I think it will give him more options if he wants to choose the same brand but a bigger vehicle although I have read numerous posts saying that we should be internally linking most of the time within the same category. User experience or SEO?

Hi! Could you please recommend me a good and deep article about best practises in internal linking structure? I need to rethink the structure of a big site (lucky me it's very hierarchical) and I would like to have a look at some great articles about this to consolidate some ideas and have some new ones. PageRank: Links on menu and footer to the same page, does it get counted twice?
Hello all. If I have 10 links on a menu linking to 10 different pages, and 10 links on the footer linking to the same pages, does PageRank get divided by 10 or 20?
