Pros and Cons of Links in Articles
-
My question pertains to articles that I'll be submitting to certain article directory sites.
What are the pros and cons (If any exists) of adding links to the body of an article for certain keywords vs. just adding a link to the website at the bottom (i.e. visit us at www.somewebsite.com) ?

There are no pros of using article directories. Short term gains might look like a pro, but they aren't.
Value in these sources of links has gone down over the years, and they'll continue to slide. A better use of your time might be with publishing a few selective guest posts on related sites. With regards to your question, use links wherever it feels natural. If the link is forced or looks out of place, you probably shouldn't be doing it.
...and remember the links you use, don't all have to be pointing to your site alone.
I did a guest post recently which was later re-published on Forbes. In addition to my own, I linked to two other sites which I was not affiliated with. One of them emailed me to say thanks and I took the opportunity to ask for a link from his PR6 site which I got. I emailed the other one, and after several exchanges it was clear that the only thing that moves him to link out is money. So there ya go.

New article algorithm changes -- links allowed
hey guys, i understand that google has made algorithm changes for article writing in that only one link is allowed now per 500 words. would this include the "author resource" box if you don't place links in the body? any suggestions would be great: Due to the latest changes in Google's algorithms, regarding the proportions between the length of the content to the outbound links, ArticleSlash's requirements are changing effective immediately. • - For articles with up to 500 words, we will allow only one hyperlink • - For Articles up to 900 words - two hyperlinks • - For articles with 900 words and above - three hyperlinks Short articles with many outbound links are running the chance to get into Google's spam filters, which is why we are implementing this change, effective immediately.

Old links
I am looking to remove some old directory links that now look spammy. Some years ago the site was redesigned. The links are all to the old pages url, which is 301 redirected to the new. If we remove the 301 and let the page 404, will that suffice in Googles eyes?

NEW LINKS
Hi If you plan to add new links to a site which currently has very few inbound links what is the maximum amount you could add in any one day before it is deemed by Google to be suspicious and unatural. I am referring ot manually added links, not robotic. Thank you 🙂

Reciprocal Links Or One Way Links?
After reading a recent blog post on guest blogging and ways to build relationships for link building purposes, I began to wonder about something. It is my understanding that one way backlinks are superior to reciprocal linkage, but reciprocal is better than no link at all. So is it still worthwhile to do reciprocal guest blogging, and will the value of the links be worth it when completed? Or should we just be of the opinion that: One Way Link > Reciprocal > No link
