Can you help me with my options on publishing others' news releases on my site?
-
I wish to add a "News" section to a highly-read, highly ranked blog I have. The News pieces will not be in the same flow as my regular posts. I'm contemplating what the best way to do this is, and would like some advice, please. I see these options:
Option 1. Pay textbroker type people to rewrite news releases and post them into the news flow. Pro: indexable content. Con: expense.
Option 2: Have a Submit News form on the site for vendors to submit their news stories. I would have to ask them to rewrite their stories to avoid dup content. Pros: Easy for me, no cost. Cons: Will still get dup content I bet, a lot of companies won't take the time to do it, and I will have no control over quality. (I really doubt this option will work).
Option 3: Post news releases from companies in their raw format, and mark them as no index (even if I don't noindex, they won't move up the SERPs anyway, so why not just noindex them). Pros: very easy, all the news I want. Cons: not creating any indexable content.
Bonus question: If I do Option #3, and I place an adsense ad on the page, will it work the same as if it was an indexed, non-duplicate content page?
Your thoughts?

Bizzer,
First, you have to answer for what purpose are you doing this. Then, if you just want some content that is fresh, but not a lot of it, you could really go with an RSS feed. (Especially if by not in the same flow as your blog means sidebar content.)
Also, as to textbrokers, etc. Here are some options:
AP has different levels of 'membership' with different cost levels. You can get the type that is just getting news or you can actually be a member and rewrite their content as the newspapers do. (Frankly, some of their writers seem to get content that isn't theirs... ).
You could simply hire a copywriter and give them a few parameters on what you want or don't and put out a couple of news pieces a week if cost is major consideration. You can find good copywriters who would do smaller pieces for hourly or less than big bucks.
Depending on the type of news you want, use a form for your vendors to "fill out" about the story where there is enough info that you are a copywriter could rewrite for them. Then, let them use it and link back to you. (Frankly, I like this answer a lot). So, you get some basic info on the "news" they have, e.g. Bob McBob is new head of IT at supercomputers is us! They put in how long with company, education, age, three bullet points about his previous and three about new role, and you write a 100 to 200 word release on it. Company gets a nice piece for their site, you get a link and some news for yours.
Well on 3 I would be curious as to where or how you are posting the news. And, you can use Adsense on a noindex page as long as it meets the other criteria for adsense. A caveat is the ads served may not be as relevant as on a followed page.
Best of luck,
-
You can use their actual article and trackback to their original (first indexed) post, this will avoid duplicate content and save you time. Google only punishes a site if the duplicate content without tracking back to it's original location.
PR sites are distributing every press release they get to as many news sites that will take it... However these sites are all tracking back (at least the ones who know what they are doing) to the original.

Franchise-Like Duplicate Sites
I know that ideally businesses that operate as franchises should have 1 site with separate location pages. However, I have a slightly different issue. Each location is owned by a different parent company, and named accordingly. For example, there is "Location by XYZ Company" and "Location by ABC Company." In addition, each location, while carrying similar products, does not carry the same exact products and brands. So my question is how would you go about writing the content for each of these sites, keeping the same tone but avoiding duplicate content?

Can unreliable server hurt your serps?
Hi I have a small personal blog about food and wine that I recently moved from blogger to wordpress and it is currently being hosted by the company who moved the blog over from one system to the other. This week I've noticed an 80% drop in organic traffic thanks to losing pretty much every first page SERP, there's no messages in WMT, i dont pay for links, all that's on the site is original content about food and wine that I enjoy. I've never had a previous drop in ranking/traffic like it. The one thing I can say, is that the guy who took over the hosting is hosting it himself on his own server and the website has been down more times than I would consider reasonable, often for hours at a time (this is when I catch it and I don't check often). Would the site be penalised for this? If I move servers to a reliable co i normally use, how long will it take to recover?

SEO advice needed regarding Bookmark Sites
Hi all We have recently employed a SEO company. They have written some blogs and promoted the blogs on up to 20 bookmark sites. On each bookmark site the text is the same. Will Google class this as duplicate content? Is this a good idea? Any advise would be appreciated, thanks.

How to fight against a site always "re-write" your content?
A site is always copying our content then re-write to their site, how to fight against this kind of action? (Many of those copied content can get a rank very closely behind us, which will grab some of our visits ) I tried to find DMCA, but as they have changed some paragraphes, etc, DMCA can't punish them as copying. I think many of you also have met such a problem, how will you handle this situation??

Is there a way to repost content (with permission) to another site without being penalized by Google?
I write a monthly Social Media Marketing column for a local Business Journal and the column is printed in their paper as well as posted on their website. Is there any way I can repost these articles on my website's blog without being penalized by Google for "duplicate content"?

Duplicate content - 6 websites, 1 IP. Is the #1 site knocked down too?
Yes I know, running multiple websites on 1 IP isn't smart. 6 Websites with duplicate content on 1 IP is even worse. It's a technical issue we can't solve quickly. Thing is, our #1 website, which has the highest DA and PR, was the first website with all this content. All other websites we're running were launched a few months, and some a few years, later. All content was copied from the #1 website. I'd say the other websites would get knocked down by Google, because they duplicated the content. Google should see that our #1 website was the first that uploaded this content. Therefore our #1 website should rank normally. Questions is: What does Google think of duplicate content when all websites are on 1 IP? Is, or will our #1 website get punished as well?

How to organize content for ecommerce site
Hello, We've decided to create 24 articles of content for our ecommerce site, everything from an FAQ to history of the products to 10 articles on the top 10 products. Really useful to the user. How do you suggest that we make our content visible to the users? We could put a nice button on our right banner that says "Extensive Help Session" or we could put a banner on our home page or we could make it a tab at the top of the screen. We could additionally make a well organized footer with links to the articles. Or we could do all of those but that might be overkill. What do you suggest?
