Are .edu links really better?
-
Getting .edu links seems to be the Holy Grail for many SEOs and link builder. I understand how difficult it can be to get a link from a .edu domain that happens to cover topics in your industry.
What I am wondering is, has there been any studies/tests to determine if .edu links are more powerful that a link from a trusted/relavant .com?
All things being equal (DA, PA, etc.), is the .edu better?
What if the .com has slightly better metrics, is the .edu still better for SEO?
I haven't been able to find any expert blog posts about the added value.

Some are; some are not.
.edu is not necessarily better than some .com. If the link is from a university's law school resources pages and links to your site on law books, this may be more valuable, than a student's page with a lot of links to and discussions about what beer is best for getting drunk the quickest.
The Google algorithm does consider the trust factor on domain names. Because just anyone of the street can't get on GoDaddy and buy example.edu, it will automatically get a trust boost.
Some discussion of the different values of the .edu can be found at: http://searchengineland.com/explaining-edu-link-value-with-examples-64012

Why are bit.ly and ow.ly links showing up as Inbound Links?
Hello! I noticed this question was asked a while back (around 2013 i think), but I still don't quite understand why I'm seeing these shortened URLs come up as Inbound Links? Can someone please explain? Thanks,

Are links from charities really better than 'normal' links.
Hi Guys. Just wondering about this idea that links from Charities are particularly good. I've heard people say that links from .org sites are particularly strong. But anyone can get a .org domain, it's just that charities tend to use them more often. Right? I just don't get the logic. Can anyone give more detail about this? Is it a myth? Is there quality info on this topic I can check out? We're working with several charities at the moment, and they all seem happy to blog and link to us...so I just wanted to know a little more. Isaac.

Followed and nofollowed links
Hi all, When we should add followed links and when no followed? How this will affect to our site? Should all our links to other sites be no followed? Which sites we should give value? Thank you for your time Miško Macolić Tomičić

Any benefits to having Wikipedia links now they are 'no-followed' (apart from traffic and natural link prof.)
I see that Wikipedia outbound links are all no-followed, is there any benefit (aside from the traffic) for having links here now ? For example is their co-citation and co-occurance benefits. I know there is without the links since from seeing previous Moz content about this saying Google getting good at connecting brand/s and topic mentions on a page (without any links) so appreciate Wikipedia is still good for that sort of thing. And a no-followed link is obviously good for the potential traffic. But is there any additional SEO benefit to having a no followed link on a wikipedia entry/stub too ? (aside from its contribution to your no-followed links which in turn contribute to a natural looking link profile) Cheers Dan

How to decide which links to remove.
I manage the seo for a bunch of different websites. We currently have a problem with links from low quality sources.... way too many of them and then way too much exact match anchor text. We have a lot of sites that we basically linked together (blog network) and we are in the process of correcting this. We know we have a lot of links we need to remove and/or anchor text we need to rewrite. My question is how do I know which ones to remove and/or edit. I know that having some links from low quality sources isn't bad, or links from some other sites you own, or having some exact match anchor text. I know this isn't all bad, and some of it is expected but we have a LOT of this going on. So basically I need to make decisions on each and every link as to whether we want to keep it, edit the anchor text, nofollow it, or delete it. I'm just not sure of what the best action is that should to be taken for each link. Any help would be really appreciated. http://jesus.christ.org/ If you browse around on there you will see what I'm talking about with the low quality links, or if you run it through open site explorer you will really see what I mean 🙂 Thank you, I hope to get some responses soon.

Links in the Classifieds
We rent apartments. One way we use to find clients is to advertize these apartments in Classifieds. Generally, we use free ads. Sometimes, for very popular sites ( like Kijiji), we pay so our ads can be seen first. Could this be a problem with Google? Some sites send us clients, many of them never do. We keep putting ads there because of their PR. What is the worth of this kind of links? Thanks for your answers.

Is it Better to Link to an Article or Post it on my Site?
I have a client who has a few articles written about her and posted on different news-related sites. She has asked me to capture these articles (we have permission) and create a section on her site for them. My question is this... From an SEO standpoint, would it be better to link _to the _articles, post them on her site or both? Or, maybe there's an even better way I'm not thinking of. Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kirk

External link
Hi guys! You must get many questions about external links... This is mine. If I get an external link with good authority ranking in google, but it is not relevant to the site (for example, my site is about marquees, but we could get links from schools, which are our main clients, or any type of client) Does that affect negatively somehow to the rankings? or there is good value on it even is not related? Thanks! Adriana
