Indexing specified entry pages
-
Hi,We are currently working on location based info.Basically, when someone searches from Florida they will get specific Florida results and when they search from California they will specific California results. How does this location based info affect crawling and indexing?Lets say we have location info for googlebot, sometimes they crawl from a New York ip address, sometimes they do it from Texas and sometimes from California. In this case google will index 3 different pages with 3 different prices and a bit different text, and I'm afraid they might see these as some kind of cloaking or suspicious movement because we serve different versions of the page.
What's the best way to handle this?

Hi Donnie, You might like to check out this previous discussion here in Q&A: http://www.seomoz.org/q/serving-different-content-based-on-ip-location Does that help?

I don't know the best way to handle this. But maybe this would work.
Using an example site built for attorneys that provides search functionality where users can pare down an entire list of attorneys by searching with keywords such as tax, miami, divorce, etc...
Using your location based info, you can provide a separate URL for each location. The keywords or search parameters would be sent as a query string or post data to a page like the following:
Example:
- http://www.example.com/california/attorneys
- http://www.example.com/new-york/attorneys
Since you know which locations you are targeting, you can add the main URLs to your site map and possibly even include them as links on your main search page in a "popular searches" section.
Example:
Popular Searches
The main category would include all results for that state.
This is an idea anyway, hope it helps!

Duplicate Page getting indexed and not the main page!
Main Page: www.domain.com/service
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Ishrat-Khan
Duplicate Page: www.domain.com/products-handler.php/?cat=service 1. My page was getting indexed properly in 2015 as: www.domain.com/service
2. Redesigning done in Aug 2016, a new URL pattern surfaced for my pages with parameter "products-handler"
3. One of my product landing pages had got 301-permanent redirected on the "products-handler" page
MAIN PAGE: www.domain.com/service GETTING REDIRECTED TO: www.domain.com/products-handler.php/?cat=service
4. This redirection was appearing until Nov 2016.
5. I took over the website in 2017, the main page was getting indexed and deindexed on and off.
6. This June it suddenly started showing an index of this page "domain.com/products-handler.php/?cat=service"
7. These "products-handler.php" pages were creating sitewide internal duplicacy, hence I blocked them in robots.
8. Then my page (Main Page: www.domain.com/service) got totally off the Google index Q1) What could be the possible reasons for the creation of these pages?
Q2) How can 301 get placed from main to duplicate URL?
Q3) When I have submitted my main URL multiple times in Search Console, why it doesn't get indexed?
Q4) How can I make Google understand that these URLs are not my preferred URLs?
Q5) How can I permanently remove these (products-handler.php) URLs? All the suggestions and discussions are welcome! Thanks in advance! 🙂0 -

Pages are Indexed but not Cached by Google. Why?
Here's an example: I get a 404 error for this: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://www.qjamba.com/restaurants-coupons/ferguson/mo/all But a search for qjamba restaurant coupons gives a clear result as does this: site:http://www.qjamba.com/restaurants-coupons/ferguson/mo/all What is going on? How can this page be indexed but not in the Google cache? I should make clear that the page is not showing up with any kind of error in webmaster tools, and Google has been crawling pages just fine. This particular page was fetched by Google yesterday with no problems, and even crawled again twice today by Google Yet, no cache.

Google swapped our website's long standing ranking home page for a less authoritative product page?
Our website has ranked for two variations of a keyword, one singular & the other plural in Google at #1 & #2 (for over a year). Keep in mind both links in serps were pointed to our home page. This year we targeted both variations of the keyword in PPC to a products landing page(still relevant to the keywords) within our website. After about 6 weeks, Google swapped out the long standing ranked home page links (p.a. 55) rank #1,2 with the ppc directed product page links (p.a. 01) and dropped us to #2 & #8 respectively in search results for the singular and plural version of the keyword. Would you consider this swapping of pages temporary, if the volume of traffic slowed on our product page?
