Single, high ranking pank disappears from Google?
-
Hi all,
The question I have concerns a high ranking page on my site that has disappeared from Google. It was in the top 5 for the target keyword and it currently ranks 3 on Bing.
I recently migrated my domain (one month ago), but it seems to have gone very well. No other pages have taken a hit like this. The 301 redirect is in place and working well. I've used the Moz Tools to see if anything is weird, but it all looks fine.
Oh, and yes, I did check Google Webmaster Tools - no messages and other related pages on my site are ranking on the second and third pages for the terms. Also, the site is consulting services - nothing dodgy.
Any ideas? Why just this one page? What are my options?
Thanks for any advice you may have.
John

Thanks for the update! I am glad it worked out for you.

Ultimately, what I had to to was go into GWT and request that the URL in question be added to the index. It reappeared today, three days after my request and three weeks after disappearing.
-
I hope you're right...it's been about a week. Thanks for the encouragement!
-
I think it will reappear in a few days anytime I have made changes like that Google will usually remove it for a few days and then re-list it. It is weird just that one page took a hit though.

I checked this. This page is a popular tutorial on a technical topic that was kicking ass in the rankings and has utterly disappeared. I did the backlinks check and honestly, Opensite Explorer is not very useful most of the time. Outdated and very incomplete. I checked GWT and Bing Webmaster Tools for backlinks and it came up with with relevant links I was really happy to have. Hundreds of good ones, nothing obviously spammy. I'm at a loss with this...very difficult to understand and hurting my site a lot.

They're good. I'm wondering if Google has a penalty in place, but can find no evidence of it. But other pages with similar content are ranking. It's good content, in fact one of my most popular pages. Weird.

The next thing I would do is check the backlinks to the page in Google Webmaster tools, Opensite explorer and Bing Tools. Are they of low quality? Lots of spam? Do you only have anchor links pointing to the website? I suspect that one of these are the case if everything else is well.
-
Everything is exactly the same. I was very careful and since it took the hit, I've triple checked. It's the same. Very curious.

Also make sure that your canonical tags (if you had any) aren't pointing to your old URL. Common issue if transferring over all content.

Did you greatly change the page's content, headers, titles etc . when you made the switch to the new domain? Did you keep a lot of the same internal linking as well? All of these are things that I would check into for the page. Also, make sure that the page is craw-able by a Google bot. These would all be first things that I would look at.

Re-direct Irrelevant (high ranking) blog articles?
One of our sites has some old & completely irrelvant blog articles that are high ranking & receive the top two visited pages for the entire site (more page views than the homepage even). Our marketing managers are wanting to take down the blog posts since they are falsely inflating their traffic numbers with irrelevant visitors. I'm concerned by taking them down and re-directing to another site it will affect our overall domain authority and rankings for relevant keywords. Thoughts and/or resources on taking down vs. keeping up?

In this 3 years I improved my site onpage very great. They also have few backlinks I do have few backlinks only. I am doing very high google adwords and my conversion rate is very very good. But do you think because I am paying since last 3 year high to google because of that google have some setting or strategy that those who perform well in adwords so not to bring up in organic? Is it possible I can talk with google on this? If yes then what will be the medium of conversation? Pls give some valuable inputs I am performing very much in paid so user end site is very very well. Google is not honoring my descriptions
I finally got our title tags honored and now Google is just making the descriptions whatever it wants. This is happening on pretty much every one of our pages. An example: http://www.sqlsentry.com/products/plan-explorer/sql-server-query-view SERPS = SQL Server MVP Aaron Bertrand shares a demo kit for Plan Explorer to give you better insight into the advantages of the tool, and to help you share its virtues ... Description tag = SQL Sentry Plan Explorer is a free query plan analysis tool that will allow you to find the most expensive operators by CPU, I/O, or both. I can see the description tag when I view source so I know that it is pulling it from the table correctly. What can I do to fix this?

Are links that are disavowed with Google Webmaster Tools removed from the Google Webmaster Profile for the domain?
Hi, Two part question - First, are links that you disavow using google webmaster tools ever removed from the webmaster tools account profile ? Second, when you upload a file to disavow links they ask if you'd like to replace the previously uploaded file. Does that mean if you don't replace the file with a new file that contains the previously uploaded urls those urls are no longer considered disavowed? So, should we download the previous disavow file first then append the new disavow urls to the file before uploading or should we just upload a new file that contains only the new disavow urls? Thanks

What is a good content for google?
When we start to study SEO and how google see our webpage, one important point is to have good content. But, for beginners like me, we get lost on this. Is not so black and white: what for you is a good content? the text amount matters? there is any trick that all good content websites need to have?

Pages On Subfolder Not Ranking
A subdirectory/folder on our website doesn't seem to rank for any keywords where the same type of pages on the same competition level keywords rank perfectly fine. For awhile the pages weren't getting indexed but were crawled regularly. Can't seem to figure the problem out.
