Ranking for broad search terms
-
Hello,
ive been getting some good organic traffic lately, i always run the live real time analytics and have noticed that the site is ranking for very broad terms and not specific exact keywords that i have the pages optimized for. Is there a reason for this?
thx

Thanks Very much, I was not 100% sure as this new traffic spike is new to me, in the past i was relying on ppc and just very minor organic traffic. It seems as though the spike started after BOTW added my link? Im not sure if that is directly the cause? I have been optimizing now for quite some time, individual pages, blogs, PR's, Social. Its unbelievable actually just how much work goes into it!

Sites that are new are not as trusted, and have a more difficult time ranking for exact terms. As your site gains authority you should start seeing some additional traffic for more specific terms - depending on your site's level of optimization, industry and keywords you are targeting. Traffic will always be a mix of brand, long tail, and more exact KWs though.

it is approx 2 yrs old. why do you ask?
-
Is the website new, or is it pretty well established?
-
yes sorry they are more long tail
-
By broad do you mean more long-tail search terms? This is pretty normal, especially if the exact keywords are in a competitive space.

How to work my keywords - should I use exact, broad and phrase match in the same adgroup?
I'm looking at my adwords, and am looking to strengthen them, improve quality score by making the wording more appropriate, and ensuring they link to a more relevant page rather than just my home page. In an AdGroup should I be using all three (broad, exact and phrase) or does this just confuse Google. What are the advantages/disadvantages? When I was doing the keyword research, for some of my phrases, there was little difference in price (sometimes as low as a 3p difference) between a broad match (with large potential numbers) and an exact match (with a tiny target group) so it would seem best that I target the broad match - make sense?

Most Important Keyword Term
Question about a sites most important keyword term. So lets say you have a website and your most important keyword term is "Blue Widgets", you also have a page named "blue-widgets.htm". What do we do with our index page in this instance? Especially for the title tag? Should I put "Blue Widgets" in the title tags of both pages? I'm guessing this would be a duplicate meta tag error? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
