Links don't add up
-
Sorry if this is obvious, but I'm new to seomoz. I've run an analysis for one of my pages and it's showing 624 total links - 118 internal and 6 external. Why doesn't the sum of the internal and external links equal the total links?
-
Thanks Doug, I've sent a message to support. Thanks for all your help on this.
-
When I look at the links or export them to CSV it looks as if you're only getting a subset of data. (I could only get 30 links in the CSV file when there should have been more than 600.) Might be an idea to drop support a line.
Have you tried crawling the site with something like screaming frog?
-
OK, thanks Doug. That does add up now, although I don't understand why SEOMOZ thinks there are hundreds of nofollowed internal links, as these don't exist. In fact, if I ask it to show only nofollowed links, it can only find two.
-
624 is the number of total links (followed and no-followed).
Your 624 links are made up of:
- 616 Internal Links (of which 118 Followed Links)
- 8 External Links (of which 6 are Followed Links)
= 624 Links (of which 124 are Followed Links.)
You can see these metrics easily by looking at the Compare Link Metrics tab in Open Site Explorer.
Hope this helps.

Hi Doug,
Thanks for the quick reply. I was using the Keyword Difficulty Tool, but I get the same result using Open SIte Explorer. The page is www.mobile-phones-uk.org.uk/samsung-galaxy-ace.htm
Thanks,
Steve

Steve, can you tell us what the page is and what you used for analysis? Was this Open Site Explorer?

A tale of two pages - one ranks great and one doesn't - but they are set up the same way
Hi everyone, First time poster 🙂 I will keep it simple - we have two pages on our website that are set up in the same way (or so we think) but achieve vastly different search engine rankings. We have spent weeks trying to figure out why this should be the case, but to no avail. Perhaps you guys can do a little diagnosis and see what we are missing: for search term: used machine tools www.machinetoolsonline.co.za/buy-used-machine-tools Is working well for us. for search term: new machine tools www.machinetoolsonline.co.za/buy-new-machine-tools is a disaster 😞 In fact, Google ranks our home page which is optimised for other terms, higher. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Count of Inbound Internal Links
Is there a simple way, using the moz tools, to get a count of inbound internal links for a given URL? Seems simple enough but I'm having trouble finding that specific data point.

Page Rank Report says #6 in Google but I can't find the page anywhere
So SEOMoz says that I've consistently ranked #6 for a certain keyword. But when I search I'm no where to be found. I've done regular searches, incognito and some non-seomoz reports and all come up with nothing in Google. I noticed it a week or two ago, but didn't think it would continue. This is no bueno. I wouldn't be surprised if I got penalized (luckily my homepage relatively well for similar keywords), an old seo consultant used very spammy tactics. I recently removed them, but not before I started to notice that I fell off the map. Why would SEOMoz not recognize this, and continue to say I'm ranking well? The keyword is bpi building analyst the page is http://www.cleanedison.com/courses/bpi-building-analyst

Discrepancies in link reports from SEOMoz and OSE
Hello, I am trying to understand the link profile of my site. In the competitive analysis from SEOMoz, it shows 22K+ of links, with about 900+ being external followed links and 800+ internal. Webmaster tools shows a similar number of external followed links, but the link report from OSE only shows about 150 external followed links. This brings up several questions: Where is this 22K total links coming from? Why is there such a difference in the SEOMoz competitive analysis and the OSE report? Why does the OSE report show some links as not followed, while Webmaster tools lists them as followed? Am new to the off-page aspects of SEO, and I have to say the discrepancy in data from different tools is by far the most challenging thing for me. Would welcome general advice on this topic as well. Thank you!

BOTW links not recognized by Open Site Explorer
Hi there, I was wondering if I buy a submission to the Best of the Web directory (waiting for the new directory list promised by the seomoz team 🙂 ) but when I get to the category on BOTW website that will fit for my website, I took some links already there and put them on open site explorer to see their value, I had the surprise they are not even recognized... So I am still wondering if it is worth or not... voilà , if anybody knows if this directory still has value...

Latest OSE Update - Strange Numbers and Links
Hey everyone. I just checked our website in OSE with the latest update and noticed some strange numbers. The number of linking domains skyrocketed from 300 to 785 which definitely caught me off guard. Like all good SEOers I work hard to get links, but in a typical month I usually get between 40 and 50. To suddenly jump up by over 300 seems odd. Digging deeper, I noticed that some of the incoming link domains could be considered less than trustworthy (pages filled with links), while others I couldn't find at all on the page in question. I also never ever asked for any of these links, nor did anyone on my team. Should I be worried? I've heard of websites who purposely gain bad links to their competitors in order to penalize them. Is there an easy way to find out if this is going on? Could this possibly be a problem with OSE and just reporting non-existant links? Thanks for your feedback! Andrew BTW, the website in question is www.gooverseas.com

What is the difference between the link count on OSE and Linkscape?
We notice a huge difference in the number of inbound links . Site explore shows 1,200 as an example and linkscape shows over 100,000 for the same site.
