How do you use anchor text post Penguin?
-
I have a client with several businesses within the same industry - Each of these businesses have their own websites.
So, I have a few questions with this in mnd:
**When using anchor text (exact keyword phrases) on his website pages, how many links are safe to use per page? And if I want to interlink between his businesses, is it better to use exact keyword phrases to link or just a straight URL link for those other businesses?
**When guest blogging or using an external blog of our creation, is it best to use exact keyword phrases (and how many) or URL links?
I want to make sure I am not over linking - help?
thanks a lot

Hello,
So when building links, I should not worry about backlinks to inner pages, and try to concentrate on building to my category & homepage?
Also Is it typical for a homepage to have the majority of links? Or should it be spread as evenly as possible?
Thanks!

Post penguin i focus building trust and authority in the domain as a whole, rather than trying to build backlinks to each individual page with targeted anchor text. That's not to say that getting links to your internal pages isn't important. Having a good internal structure and linking will take the load off requiring alot of external links to rank.
In short, I get links to the homepage and categories using branded anchor text ..and let the internal pages attract links on their own.

Anchor text or inbound link keyword limits
With google's new algorithm, websites can get punished for keyword stuffing or too many of certain back links...so my question is, is there a limit on the keyword/anchortext used for a website containing a keyword you want the website to rank with?

Link building - anyone use this technique?
I have had a client come and ask me to do some link building, they are wanting to use a strategy of buying expired domains and creating a single page website with some keyword links back to the main website. Seems like an old idea at best, has anyone used it or is it risky

Should anchor text be local or global keyword?
One of my clients' run a hyperlocal marketplace (have different pages for each city) to hire music teachers. When I am doing link building, should I use anchor text as "violin teachers" or "violin teachers in boston". I suggested to use "violin teachers" as this is the primary keyword with high search volume and if we rank for this keyword, we will automatically rank for locality keywords like violin teachers in boston, violin teachers in new york, violin teachers in los angels etc. But, he argues that we are hyper local services, which means we should have city anchor texts like "violin teachers in boston", "violin teachers in new york", "violin teachers in los angels" etc. Am I right? or Is he right? and Why?

Penguin impact - October 2014
I am on head of the SEO of a national real estate website that was impacted by the Google Penguin updates on October 2014\. ... we have made some changes on site, anchors text, new pages products / listings, setting up micro data ... nothing moves. (almost 60% of natural traffic and less, based on 25 000 / month) We have a basic aggregated content (real estate ads) and a base of rich content, a little soup admittedly ... Several portals are in line with the same code, and they have not been impacted. I identified a concern that can cause these issues ... the contents of the site have been indexed impacted (configuration simplicity) on other portals, running October 2014 (almost 1000 pages duplicates) .. . the concerned website has been fixed but nothing moves ... Non-impacted sites grew little (but does not drop), the site affected is falling ... I'm at an impasse. What do you advise me to do? Is this jump config which resulted indexing over 1000 pages on other sites alone can justify this loss and this non-recovery (confidence index)? Do soup contents must be moved, corrected, collect altogether? (I tend towards the latter solution, few rank pages and glad is really light) Should there be a complete overhaul. Links between all portals exist ... he may also be affected if nothing changes?

Alt text from an external site
We have a relevant external website that is linking to our site through an image. What ideally should the alt text of this image be? Should it just be non-commercial as generally advised with the anchor text of an external link? Or should it include where suitable relevant keywords? Keen to know people's thoughts here! Thanks.

Google Authorship and Guest Posts
I'm including my google author details at the bottom of guest posts with a link to my site. Is this not giving google a clear signal the that it is a guest post by me and although the site owner has found it worthy enough to include the post on their site it's not really an 'editorially given link' in the true sense of the term?
