Good technical SEO resources for a newly hired front end dev who has no SEO experience
-
I am a SEO/product manager for a big online publisher. I work with several front end developers who have great technical and design skills, but zero SEO or social media knowledge. I end up answering a lot of SEO 101 questions and/or making them redo things with SEO and social media in mind.
What are some good resources for them? I was already going to send them these SEOmoz links.

Can anyone recommend other, more thorough, more technical reading and reference materials (print or online)?

Great authors. I haven't read it but have wanted it for a while. Trust me, mistakes by developers can totally derail any SEO you want to do. I am an in house SEO and I spend about 80% of my time trying to fix technical errors that were made by developers who never took any SEO into consideration when building the site.
If they get to know a lot about SEO it will make your work more effective, quicker and make it possible for you to contribute more to the bottom line..

I've heard it's a good book, but it's pricey and nearly 700 pages long. I'd say that online content (alone on SEOmoz) will suffice.

-
No, but it does seem to cover the fundamentals pretty well... However, since it's about 4 years old, costs money and will require a large amount of time to read through, I don't approve of it.
-
I would make them all read the SEO Beginners Guide from SEOmoz... then I would send them individual links to the SEOmoz Blog filtered by category and/or keyword depending on what they do or are specialized in, so that they could do their own research.
Here's a somewhat technical guide for SEO by Google:
http://www.google.com/de//webmasters/docs/search-engine-optimization-starter-guide.pdf
I don't know any other exact technical resources, but I am sure that you'll find plenty on Google.

The 2nd edition was done in 2008. Have you read it? I have. A lot of the fundamentals there are completely sound, and they stay away from a lot of the garbage tactics that SEOs have done over the last few years.
Interested to know your take on it. Always interested in different points of view.
Ehren, don't just trust my word for it. Read the reviews on Amazon.
My own copy is also dog-eared from constant flipping back through and referring to things.

...this book was published in 2005.

If they weren't developers I wouldn't make this recommendation, but there's a great book on SEO and Search Engine Marketing produced by the smart folks over at IBM. I highly recommend it because it gets down to the nitty gritty technical stuff really well. And, it was written by developers
P.S. I am not an Amazon affiliate. This is not an affiliate link

Sorry that was a link to the old edition. Here is the newer one:

What would you expect an SEO agency to deliver in 6 months?
Hi All, Looking for some views/opinions on this one, my question is "What would you expect an SEO agency to have delivered for a single client over a 6 month period with a budget of £12k?" I appreciate that its fairly open ended and very subjective not knowing the site/circumstances but is there a general consensus or minimum you'd expect to have seen delivered for example x number of backlinks, x number pieces of content created, technical improvements made etc etc. Any steer, views or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Jon

Need help figuring out who to hire for this type of project?
Hi my name is Gina, I have a bail bonds company that is in need of some sort of online accessible (software or website)?. I'm not sure what the right word to use for this project is. I need a program that is sort of like seamlessdocs. That does the following. 1. Allow guest to access company application as is and be able to fill out the document and submit via our company website. With required attachments for review by bondsman. Who will be evaluating the risk based on application submitted. Once it is approved I want the application to be saved for access by name search. 2. Have the ability to save the client payment information such as credit card info so that if a client is on a monthly payment plan it will automatically charge the card and calculate and update the new balance. 3. Also have the ability to send text message reminders to clients for the upcoming court dates.

SEO as part of University Curricula - real examples
Does anyone know of any universities that offer SEO as part of the curricula? I am currently working on getting SEO into an Argentine University and it would be nice to have precedents. There appears to be demand as you can see here http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=seo%20university yet when you search "SEO university course" or something similar, no name brand universities show up. https://www.google.com/#q=seo%20university%20course. Distilled does. I am interested in hearing people’s opinions on having SEO be taught at universities. Thanks Carla

I want the good stuff! 🙂 However I havn't been to that many conferences before, only PubCon Las Vegas several times. I would therefore appreciate some help from you guys who have tried them all (or at least several of them) 🙂 Thank's a lot!

Not counting seomoz or Distilled, what are your top3 SEO blogs you wouldchoose to read if you had a hard limit of 3 total?
Recently on Q&A, Petra weighed in with a link tool site that had completely missed my radar. My problem is lack of time. I don't have enough of it to readthe2 dozen+ SEO blogscurrently in my RSS feed I would like to tobe able to read to stay current. So I end up only reading at the moz. I'm hoping the collective wisdom of the SEOmoz crowd will shine forthand set me on the road of pursuit of new knowledge with the best of the best blogs
