Google Multiple Results
-
With Google's penchant for listing at times many results - one on top of the other - from the same domain, is it now advisable to not worry about having multiple pages in the same site targeting the same or very similar keywords?
Is this (keyword/page internal competition) one less thing that I have to worry about or worry about less or what?
Thanks! Best... Jane

I wouldn't bank on that in the future. Google has been tweaking the "domain diversity" settings a lot lately. Their goal seems to be to increase domain diversity on any given SERP, so I would still assume you'll only get one result on page 1. Anything extra is gravy.

Hi Ben,
Thanks for the speedy reply!
It sort of seems like I had previously pursued one term/one page in order to not compete with myself. That's some extra effort on a larger site.
Now I find that not spending the time to worry about it may be at times rewarded. What now makes one term/one page a best practice. It kind of seems like extra effort to avoid a potential benefit.
Thanks... Jane

Hi Jane,
It's best practices to dedicate the direction of an article/page to one topic/keyword. However, if your site is showing multiple times in the SERPs and it's not for spammy reasons, you are effectively covering more real estate on the page thus increasing your chances of getting clicked on, revel in that

New Featured Links in Organic Search Results?
Hi guys, I just performed a search and came across something that looks like "featured links" under a regular organic search result (see screenshot). This is the first time I'm seeing this. It looks like a combination of callout and sitelink ad extensions for Google ads. Basically, linked callouts. I went to the landing page to check out the source code and it seems like they are calling it "featured link" in their code. I tried to find more info online but wasn't able to find anything. (I might not be using the correct search terms.) Does anyone know how to take advantage of this? Thanks a lot for your feedback. dJ9dmTr

Google not crawling click to expand content - suggestions?
It seems like Google confirmed this week in a G+ hangout that content in click to expand content e.g. 'read more' dropdown and tabbed content scenarios will be discounted. The suggestion was if you have content it needs to be visible on page load. Here's more on it https://www.seroundtable.com/google-index-click-to-expand-19449.html and the actual hangout, circa 11 mins in https://plus.google.com/events/cjcubhctfdmckph433d00cro9as. From a UX and usability point of view having a lot of content that was otherwise tabbed or in click to expand divs can be terrible, especially on mobile. Does anyone have workable solutions or can think of examples of really great landing pages (i'm mostly thinking ecommerce) that also has a lot of visible content? Thanks Andy

Would Google Remove Pages for Inactivity?
Hi, I've been watching the Total Indexed number for 4 domains that I work with for the last few months. In Google Webmaster Tools three of them were holding steady up until August-September, when suddenly they started declining by hundreds of thousands of URLs a week. I've asked my IT department and they say they haven't done anything technically different in the last few months that would affect indexation. I've also searched on google and on search marketing blogs to see if anyone else has experience this to no avail. As you can see in the image, the "Not Selected" pages have not increased so it appears this is not due to duplicate content (of which we have a lot). However, the "Ever Crawled" number is increasing. The only reasonable answer that I can conclude is that Google is now de-indexing inactive URLs? Anyone have a better answer? yIYDm.jpg

What are the recommended ways to optimize the Google+ places page for clients. Do services like louder voice and customer lobby help? I'd love to get the group's opinion on what strategies are working for them on local optimization.
