Google is just plain confusing now
-
I know, many people are up in arms with Google with their very frequent recent changes. I guess some of this is good - but at times I am also warming to the opinion that they are just losing the plot. To illustrate my point - check this ranking history for a keyword: Toyota South Africa
I'm not sure how this image will display - but for no obvious apparent reason, from 02/10 - we were ranked 5, and now on 9/10 dropped right down to 44. I mean how is on supposed to explain, and rectify this when Google just keeps on changing the playing fields?

Zakaria I understand how frustrating it can be for a person who worked hard to attain the rankings but somehow Google update negatively affects the rankings and ultimately as a result you lost rankings, traffic and business...
But, Google is getting itself smarter everyday and at the same time offering a clear advise to businesses that not to completely relay on Google or else you will be dead soon.
In my opinion Panda and then Penguins were good updates but there are more needed in order to kick SPAM and low quality content out from the search results.
Why drop in rankings...
Obviously there can be multiple reasons to it...see when your rankings started to go down and at the same date check any Google updated rolled out... if yes read about the details of the update and fix the problems accordingly...
Remember: This almost is the era where penguin and panda are on the mission to kick low quality websites (containing low quality links) out of the search engine and give open space to people who are offering creative, authentic and relevant content in search engines...start and continue to build content around your audience that produce quality and you will see a jump in rankings again!

Google Analytics unexplainable traffic spike
Viewing this report **Behaviour > Site content > All pages **with primary dimensions of **Page ** and **Page title **are showing different results for one specific page on our site. We noticed a huge spike in pageviews and entrances to that specific page on our site. The user flow report shows traffic going through and from the page (in high volume) from other pages on the site which suggests that it's not the usual case of spam referrals. When I view the report above by page, I get unrealistic data. Over 600% increase in pageviews and over 900% increase in entrances. When I view by page title however, I get realistic results. Can anyone help shed some light on why these two reports will be different? Anyone else seeing similar issues?

Google Analytics subdomain ecommerce tracking flatlines :-(
Buongiorno from 19 degrees C wetherby UK 🙂 This website http://www.philpotts.co.uk/ contains a shop sub domian @ http://shop.philpotts.co.uk/. I configured the site Ga analytics code to include the subdomain (see below code). I had to do this as i was getting refferal data from the actuall subdomain. But after following the instructions on p117 of cutroni's ga book things have gone wrong, mainly now eCommerce data has dissapeared 😞 So my question is please: "Why has installing the GA code above caused eCommerce tracking to suddenly go dead?" Grazie tanto,

Google Analytics set up for non-canonicalized domains
Our client's website is non-canonicalized (www.example.com & example.com load the same thing). Google seems to have made a preference for the www, but canonicalizing to www breaks their Flash website. All we're really trying to do at this time is install Google Analytics for them. What's the smartest way to make sure that both www.example.com and example.com are treated exactly the same by Google Analytics? Google Developers: Domains & Directories states that by default visit data will be separately collected between the two domains, although I found no references to the common www/naked domain issue. In stackoverflow: Does google analytics combine naked domains with the www subdomain? Török Gábor says, "Yes, users will be tracked, but the same visitor coming from www.datalookups.com and datalookups.com will be counted as two different visitors." On the same page, Open SEO says, "This is completely false: www.domain.tld and domain.tld are treaded just the same, and get the same value for the HASH code (the number at the start of each __utm cookie). This an exception: every other subdomain.domain.tld will be handeld as a distinct web site". Can any Analytics experts help me sort this out? Thanks!

Localhost:4444 Showing Up in Google Analytics
Hello All, Lately in my Google Analytics account I have noticed a referral source labelled: localhost:4444 The number of visits is really high from this source, but I have no idea (no clue!) what it actually means. Can anyone shed some light on what this is about? Should I be creating some sort of filter to screen out this as a referral source (assuming it is not legitimate)? Many thanks in advance. Cheers!
